I deserve a lower price!

Come on did you see the 🔥HTF🔥? I mean that's just proof it has to be worth SO much more. rs_500x376-160225130642-anigif_enhanced-3414-1396900099-5.gif.d1fc5ed875beb319514fcdd143328618.gif

I mean you could probably do a mystery box raffle on Instagram,  with this just listed as bonus and RETIRE!

That's why the buy it now is there. This is a rock bottom price!

This opportunity to add this rare collector's edition comic to your estate after your very modest investment of $599.95 plus a small separate shipping fee of just $13.25

I was watching this one as well. A few days ago I received my submission that had a 9.8 and 9.4 in it from my original collection.  Which I was contacted to let go of the 9.8 to a fellow board member which at the time we both only knew 1 on census, but the day after it arrived at their house. That one was listed on ebay. Which means there are at least 2 now.  I didn't really want to let mine go, but I was made a good offer and accepted . At least I know where it is and that it is appreciated and in a beautiful set/collection.

Now that this book has 9.8 copies, I wonder if prices will rise if more 9.8's enter the census, similar to what seems to have happened with AC 686 2nd?

    I also wonder when we'll see another AOS 499 3rd in 9.8??

The market is always a tough call for prices.  These books are relatively rare in and right now really rare in 9.8. Only time will tell how the census will change.  Due to more of these setting new record prices there will be more submissions. What will help determine is how many really are 9.8 and how the price fairs when lower 9.2, 9.4, 9.6 sell and how often decent presenting raw copies come up and their corresponding numbers.  One example would be 75 platinum.  For a while 9.8 were over $1000, but now they can be bought between $500-700 and that is with known print numbers around 10,000. but some of that also has to do with how many are now in 9.8 on census even in spite of the known bagging issue that kept a lot of these from 9.8. Similar to the multi packs these DCU came from. I still do see the 499, 686 , 20 keeping a good value and as you said hopefully increase due to rarity . Especially in the high grade , but also across the board from 9.0 up..

Outstanding as always, thank you for sharing. :golfclap:

You are welcome . I always enjoy sharing .  Maybe one day, I will actually be able to go through and properly organize, photograph, and post all of it together.  I have such an extensive collection for several runs, but this one was my favorite.

I was able to get AOS 500 CE at Toys 'R' Us in 1993, so yes, DC distributors sure cast a wide net with these collector's editions.  Ah, the good ole' days. :cloud9:

The AOS 505 CE we were discussing in addition to coming in the Beckett pack shown and one more I have not found the pack or pictures yet, was also found in these 20180420_060425.thumb.jpg.dc7c431b7cad108a4e48fe5198c453e3.jpg

This pack has not only the 505 CE , but also where the Superman 82 second print hidden inside20190913_234952.thumb.jpg.f77b8c026649d36f3df1167f726f9465.jpg20190913_235000.thumb.jpg.c91f806962368f74f7e36731ab05f6f2.jpg

The 500 CE was literally everywhere. After the success of the death storyline they WAY over produced the 500. Not only could the bagged CE be found in many different packs they also started sending them to 3 party companies to include in their multi packs. ( Those "Out of Print" packs) as well as set packs

    20180402_012745.thumb.jpg.7cd59d2ec63faffa0603e4c971aa5030.jpg

Here is another Beckett Pack that contains the 75 second print and the 500 CE.20180402_011255.thumb.jpg.2144e04cdf8c47e2afc1f9867201bf6e.jpg20180402_011306.thumb.jpg.a84ee0eef70a70a227bb5f105d5ffeb7.jpg

plus with the major distribution and popularity almost all of the storylines have been produced in many foreign versions as well..20180402_013433.thumb.jpg.339b5df9c147aa85466e7f9ebba8f065.jpg20180402_013648.thumb.jpg.5328702d78d42fdf03e0cb5a0f0a62be.jpg

and I do agree Toys R Us, Kaybee Toys, Waldenbooks were some of my favorites back then. I always found many of these packs and boxes that I could not get enough of and still have most of them.

That’s the one! I remember the white tab!

Interesting enough these made their way to most baseball card, drug store, toy shop, and book stores. If you look at the back of the tab they were made and distributed by Beckett. If I remember correctly this specific one came from a Woolworths in Cincinnati Ohio.

  6. I just tried looking and know I have at least 3 packs the 82CE was distributed through, but so far have only managed to locate 1 pack20180402_012817.thumb.jpg.f3609675a48b8d003c24e62d756cf026.jpg20180402_012828.thumb.jpg.72d1149795ce2f96cba5b6c943928565.jpg20180402_012834.thumb.jpg.08d7d219f41c1a8a93227afbdca23637.jpg20180402_012842.thumb.jpg.29817812c0cb48daae0385079a97b35e.jpg

there is also a 5 pack like the one above that has the 4 die cut and 82CE . Similarly the AOS 505 was distributed through about 5 different packs including one that came with the trade of the return and 82 2nd print. Also you guys missed one of the AOS 505 CGC 9.8 that popped up last week and sold within about a hour of showing up on ebay.20200925_123035.jpg.8e3a54e618ba0c223d071996df56df35.jpg

so there is one of the others from the Census.

Yeah, I paid waaayyy more than I probably should have for AOS 505 CE 9.8.  Whoever consigned it with MyComicShop knew exactly how rare a 9.8 grade was for that one.  I couldn't pass it up though. Again, 10 years and the posts above are the first time I've seen 9.8 grades "in the wild" for this one.

Completely understand.  I think we all have done it for the ones we were hunting,  especially for so long .

  8. This is awsome! Really like the restaurant! Looks like an amazing place. I remember seeing Florence + the Machine at DelunaFest on Casino Beach in 2012 ( where in their set list they played that exact song! They also had an amazing line up of other artists including.  Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters,  Dwight Yoakham, DJ Jazzy Jeff, The Wallflowers , Joan Jett and The Black Hearts , Band of Horses,  Zack Brown Band, and a Bunch more! Plus it was Joan Jetts Birthday and Foo Fighters sang happy Birthday to her! Thank you for sharing as this brought back memories!

I was out running errands today so I decided to stop in at one of my local comic shops. I didn’t expect to find anything.

Yet I did, The Death of Superman trade paperback, second printing.

This book is minty fresh and I’m pleased to have it. So pleased in fact that I put it in Mylar!

    I know, it’s a bit much.

I too have picked up several of these and enjoy them.  Although this is another one of those rabbit holes.. I think they are up to 19 or 10 prints!

Thank you for sharing this as it brought back so many great memories.  I was lucky enough to see this first hand as well. I live in Florida and have been to Disney many times. Remember seeing Captain EO ( the original 1986)

In a perfect world, you would get at least three 9.8 copies back, then you would message your friends B Shep and Iconic1s where business would be conducted. :jokealert:

Not a joke at all. I would love if 3 came back at 9.8 , and if so I would definitely be stopping by here first . Much rather a collector gets these books that I have kept and treasured for so long.

I'm the one that picked up the 3rd printing... I was hoping to get it cheaper but have realized that it's the second highest bidder that sets the price.  That's all good and well if it's another collector but is a bummer if it's someone just looking to flip it.  rantrant  Having said that, that seems to be the really high end for the 4th printing so I don't see a big profit in flipping that one now.

I completely agree. When he text me that he bid and won the 4th, I was just shaking my head. I know that I really do not care for the flip, especially when there are so many of us that would really love to have these books in our collections. Having someone who doesn't know what they are looking at just blindly drive the price up...Well i just feel a little bit of my soul die each time.. Congrats on the 74 third print! At least one ended up where it should!
