  1. Agreed. I’ve noticed it but have never paid any attention to it. That cover is all about the Surfer.
  2. Hell, 50 is my favourite cover of the three! Am I alone on an island?
  3. I only have one lower grade copy but I agree that FF Special 6 is a tremendous book. I reread it recently just because. The best Lee-Kirby FF run is generally thought to be issues 44-67 which ran from 1965-67. Special 6 came out a year later and it provided us with a last glimpse at their creative genius. It’s a true classic.
  4. That issue came out the month I was born. A couple of noteworthy books that hit the stands in December 1958 were Batman 121 and Flash 105.
  5. My run of 2-441 only includes two books that I purchased in a slab; a 6.5 #6 and a 5.5 #8. I removed a 4.0 #18 and I purchased a previously removed 4.0 #9. I also have a 9.0 Golden Record #1 on order. I have very nice copies of #s 15, 19, 39, 40, 50, and all of the keys from 100 up, that I should have graded but I like being able to hold the actual books.
  6. Take Bats 169, 176, 180, 182, 238 and Supes 163, 178, 187, 188 @ 40% off
  7. I crossed the North Dakota border a couple of weeks ago to pick up ASM #12. The young lady at US Customs and the young guy at Canada Customs were both very nice and both were interested and knowledgeable when I told them exactly what comic book I was bringing back. The Canada Customs guy was quite surprised that the book only cost me $120 but I had the eBay sale printout so he was cool about it. He let me go without having to pay anything so it was all good.
  8. Carrying on... Between eBay, local stores and shows the collection kept on growing. One of my sons and I drove down to the 2013 Chicago Con where I picked up #s 29, 238, 239 and 300, along with a bunch of others I was missing. Last year, a LCS got a ASM collection in. It took the owner several months to price and start selling the Spideys but I let him know I definitely wanted #2 which he had graded the highest of the early issues. It was the first book he sold from the collection and I bought it on my birthday last December. I should mention he also had #1 but it was out of my price range even though it was relatively cheap...sigh. Later on I also purchased issues 3 (unfortunately missing the pinup) and 7 plus several upgrades from the collection. I picked up issues 5, 8 and 9 from this forum in the last several months and with the addition of #s 4 and 12 last week off of eBay, all that’s left is #1...and, of course, some required upgrading of a few issues. The hunt never really ends...
  9. Thanks for your comments! I get what you’re saying about picking up the big books first but I never thought that I would even approach where my collection is now. I started out around 25 years ago by buying cheap originals above issue 160 and Marvel Tales and Masterworks reprints of the rest. Then, I bought a real nice #50 (my all- time favourite comic book) for $100, by far the most I ever spent on a book to that point. Then, around six or seven years ago I stumbled onto a beautiful 129 that I couldn’t pass up for $540. It wasn’t even on my radar but it was sooo nice and the price was “right”. To be continued...
  10. Last night I posted in the ASM collecting thread that I completed a run from #2 to 441. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to purchase an original #1 so I’m wondering how the community feels about the Golden Records reprint as a substitute. What about the Marvel Milestones edition which also reprints the original ads? I look forward to some thoughts and opinions.
  11. Regardless of the value of his debut issue, DD is a personal favourite of mine. I loved Gene Colan and Romita’s short run was magnificent. DD's rogues gallery was pretty inept but Stan wrote some great stories around them. The concept of Mike Murdock was ridiculous but, again, Stan made him an enjoyable lark. I have a nostalgic collection of issues 1-60 plus Marvel Masterworks reprints extending to issue 132, the Frank Miller Omnibus, and the Born Again TPB.
  12. I received issues 4 and 12 this week so I now have a run of issues 2 to 441. The Marvel Milestones reprint of ASM 1 will probably have to suffice as a filler for a while but I may pursue the Golden Records reprint sometime soon. I only have two graded books in the collection (6 is a 6.5 and 8 is a 5.5) but a slabbed 7ish GRR would look pretty darn good. Unfortunately, the Milestones reprint of AF 15 will be the closest I ever get to that book.
  13. That haul is just freakin’ amazing! Congrats doesn’t do it justice.?
  14. I’ve placed two orders with them. One for a few of the DC 80 pg giant reprints that came out around the beginning of the century. That was quite a few years ago. The other was for several Daredevils between #s 40 and 60 during a 60% off sale. Both transactions were cheap and the books were graded accurately. Having said that, their prices are almost always beyond ridiculous so I rarely check what they try to pass off as a website.
  15. Ditko actually drew the whole issue. Makes a filler story kind of special.
  16. Yep, I’ll take #65, the Batman vs. Hulk Treasury. Thanks Not A Clone!
  17. 9.6 and 3.0. Considered 9.8 but didn't think the ASM warranted a 4.0 with that horrible splotch.
  18. There ain’t nothin’ remotely mini about that haul! Congrats!
