  1. This is my favorite Curt Swan cover and issue. It left a huge impression on me as a youngster. Any Superman family story drawn by Swan was imminently better than those by Plastino, Boring, Papp or anyone else . The combination of Swan with George Klein's inks was absolute perfection.
  2. First name, last initial, the number Johnny Unitas wore, favorite photo of my grandson
  3. They’re meant to be read so good on ya!
  4. Gotta say that, despite my slight preference for Jazzy John, I’m surprised that Sturdy Steve hasn’t received more votes.
  5. I would absolutely use the money to buy a book or books that I want. I definitely wouldn’t use it to speculate. There’s no enjoyment in that.
  6. I have two passions; sports and comics. The other book I have on the go is “Hank Greenberg: The Story of my Life” with Ira Berkow.
  7. First time I've posted a book in this thread. A non-colour breaking bend on the right edge, a bit of over spray on the top edge and a couple of spine tics. That's about it. I look forward to your opinions. Thanks!
  8. I purchased one of Don’s beautiful Spidey slabs and he couldn’t have been better to deal with. The price was right and Don got the perfectly packaged book to me here in Canada quickly and efficiently. Communication was excellent throughout the process and I hope to deal with him again.
  9. It’s more expensive than its’ peers because it’s...wait for it...Amazing Spider-Man #1! ‘Nuff said.
  10. Agreed. I’ve noticed it but have never paid any attention to it. That cover is all about the Surfer.
  11. Hell, 50 is my favourite cover of the three! Am I alone on an island?
  12. I only have one lower grade copy but I agree that FF Special 6 is a tremendous book. I reread it recently just because. The best Lee-Kirby FF run is generally thought to be issues 44-67 which ran from 1965-67. Special 6 came out a year later and it provided us with a last glimpse at their creative genius. It’s a true classic.
  13. That issue came out the month I was born. A couple of noteworthy books that hit the stands in December 1958 were Batman 121 and Flash 105.
  14. My run of 2-441 only includes two books that I purchased in a slab; a 6.5 #6 and a 5.5 #8. I removed a 4.0 #18 and I purchased a previously removed 4.0 #9. I also have a 9.0 Golden Record #1 on order. I have very nice copies of #s 15, 19, 39, 40, 50, and all of the keys from 100 up, that I should have graded but I like being able to hold the actual books.
  15. Take Bats 169, 176, 180, 182, 238 and Supes 163, 178, 187, 188 @ 40% off
  16. I crossed the North Dakota border a couple of weeks ago to pick up ASM #12. The young lady at US Customs and the young guy at Canada Customs were both very nice and both were interested and knowledgeable when I told them exactly what comic book I was bringing back. The Canada Customs guy was quite surprised that the book only cost me $120 but I had the eBay sale printout so he was cool about it. He let me go without having to pay anything so it was all good.
  17. Carrying on... Between eBay, local stores and shows the collection kept on growing. One of my sons and I drove down to the 2013 Chicago Con where I picked up #s 29, 238, 239 and 300, along with a bunch of others I was missing. Last year, a LCS got a ASM collection in. It took the owner several months to price and start selling the Spideys but I let him know I definitely wanted #2 which he had graded the highest of the early issues. It was the first book he sold from the collection and I bought it on my birthday last December. I should mention he also had #1 but it was out of my price range even though it was relatively cheap...sigh. Later on I also purchased issues 3 (unfortunately missing the pinup) and 7 plus several upgrades from the collection. I picked up issues 5, 8 and 9 from this forum in the last several months and with the addition of #s 4 and 12 last week off of eBay, all that’s left is #1...and, of course, some required upgrading of a few issues. The hunt never really ends...
