    Since it's my 60th birthday in a few minutes I figured I should buy myself some presents this week. I'm waiting for an 11 and 14 to arrive hopefully before Christmas.

    I’ve read that the gorilla covers were indeed good sellers for DC so they kept using them. I think it was in IDW’s excellent book chronicling the decade of the 60s in comic book collecting.

    I’m sure that ASM 1 would be even more expensive than AF 15 is today if it featured Spidey’s debut. There would be added lustre to having his introduction in his own title. The same would hold true for quite a few super heroes who debuted in other titles.

    This is a much closer contest than I anticipated. I thought #3 would be a clear winner. My current copy of #3 is missing the pin-up and my #14 is about a 2.0 but complete. I’d like to upgrade both but I may only be able to afford one.

    It’s probably a 0.5 because it’s missing the pin-up which doesn’t affect the story.

    This was my first superhero comic. I purchased it at Ebbeling's Pharmacy which is still in business today. This was my first Marvel comic. It was purchased at another neighbourhood drug store two years later when I had all of the DC books I wanted for that month. Lucky for me! Even as an 8 year old I could immediately tell the huge difference in how the characters were portrayed.

    Issue 54 was the first 12 cent Spidey I bought off a spinner rack back in the day. My first Spidey, actually my first Marvel book, was King Size Special #4.

    I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; Romita issues 39 to 56 will always be my favourite run of comic books. Pure magic.

    Looks plenty pretty to me. It's a great book to own in any grade.

    If I had 30K to spend on a comic book I would absolutely go for a mid grade AF 15. FF 48 and ST 110 are great books to own but you can purchase any silver age book when you have that much available to spend. There are so many attractive possibilities...
