  1. This is a new one for me too! Been researching the heck out of different pedigrees over the last year or so. PDG
  2. Not meaning to gravedig this thread, but HOLY WOW!!! at some of these books. Absolutely stunning! PDG
  3. Yeah, I know they don't exist it the same grades - maybe some of the lower grades there might be some equity, but I wanted to gather thoughts as a thought exercise as much as anything else. Dumb question - I have heard mentioned of The Dentists copy, but who is that? Or is that an anonymous owner of the books? Forgive my lack of knowledge here. PDG
  4. So, based on the responses here the question has popped into my mind - based on EQUAL grades - what would you think the heirarchy is? I would think: 1. Action 1 2. Tec 27 3. Captain America 1 4. Batman 1 5. Superman 1 PDG
  5. If it was resubbed in January they must have paid extra to have it fast-tracked for that turnaround time. PDG
  6. My one and only Edgar Church/Mile High book - and I am very proud to be the caretaker of this book for the next generation of collector - who can have it when I leave this earth. PDG
  7. My latest addition courtesy of member Tomb of Dracula50 - Mike! Hope to do more business again soon!! I am very happy to have added this to my collection. PDG
  8. If I were in your position, I would go with the 181. I have collected since the 1970s and owned several copies. The book might have pauses but remains the most important key issue from the 70s. GSX is second and one could argue over 3rd being the Spotlight or any number of other books. However, I think the turning point into the "Bronze Age" is the GL 76. It really redefined a number of things for that era. But ultimately, it's your money, so you decide where you want to put it. PDG
  9. Not gonna say they always add value, but if it is someone connected to the book then yeah, I am all for it. PDG
  10. This is my question as well? Experts?? Anyone? PDG
  11. I'm still pulling for the guy! I want to simply see a good photo of this book if nothing else. PDG
  12. Just found your thread - what an absolutely amazing feat!!! I am attempting to do the same, but I KNOW that there are collections I will never have. I am at I think 15 of the 61 recognized pedigrees. I have a few GA, but a LONG way to go yet!!! Nicely done!!! PDG
  13. Here is how I see it: 1. Decide if it is worth the price, or the haggle price, or worth your time. 2. Buy it!! or don't...your choice. PDG
  14. Seems to me like CGC has done their part. It seems to me, however, that I would keep hounding the shipping company regarding the tracking # and where the item is. Don't ask them for claim stuff - just tell and clarify that you want the package. Unfortunately, I think this likely falls 100% on them. PDG
  15. Bob, Just saw this post and wanted to comment. I learned about a year or so ago that FDR (and Teddy Roosevelt too) are some of my cousins. Geneology is one of my other hobbies. PDG
  16. Nope, never really gave it much thought. Then again, I don't sell books or at least very rarely do. I think I have probably sold less than 10, maybe 15 books ever. The last ones I did sell were four copies of New Mutants 98 a few weeks before the Deadpool movie came out. I had paid less than a dollar for each of them back in the mid 1990s when I bought some Wal-Mart multi-packs. So, I had a good return on those, but I simply like having a massive collection. I think I am somewhere between 8-10,000 books at this point. Many of my keys are not super-high grade, but they each have a story and I view myself as the keeper of that book at present. PDG
  17. Picked this up not long ago. It's the Crowley Copy of a book called Life Story. I am fairly unfamiliar with the title but came across this particular book when I was looking for a book from the Crowley pedigree. This is issue #13 and is the highest graded copy of 3 on the CGC Census. The book is from April of 1951 and graded at a 9.2. PDG
  18. How would one identify a Toth book or a Slobodian? I see the "Golden State" and a few books listed as being "Slobodian" listed all the time, but since it isn't recognized by a company it isn't on my list of books to seek out. Honestly, there isn't much out there except relatively small blurbs or the occasional article surrounding many of these pedigree collections. I am stating my intent right here, right now to start a video series about them. I won't claim to know the whole truth, but if I can at least compile some information and put it on a YouTube Channel then I think it could benefit the hobby as a whole. PDG
  19. Loved Victor Borge - but have never seen that clip. PDG
  20. It might be a "Frankenbook" but it sure would look nice sitting on my shelf regardless of how pieced together it might be. PDG
  21. Just found this thread - been perusing it for a few days. I am kind of embarrassed to post any of my books at this point. I had never seen photos of books from the Larson, Eldon, or Allentown collections before. (speechless) PDG
  22. Ok, so I have spent a fair amount of time pondering these issues about the collection. I absolutely agree that this is a high quality collection that likely would bring a fortune without the story that we have heard. Now, having said that, what would the LIABILITY be to Heritage if it were revealed that the story weren't true at all? This is a question best left to the lawyers on the board, but it seems to me that while they may wish to "shield" the family, there would be quite a bit of liability involved. They may make HUGE gains on these sales as we have already seen, but this is based on the quality of the books AND the story behind them. Chances are I would have worked my way around to find one of the books either way, but for me especially as a Soldier for much of my life, this particular collection had a higher appeal to me than other GA pedigrees. Just my random .02 and I know this may have been discussed elsewhere in another thread, but I haven't come across it (or don't remember this aspect being discussed in these terms). PDG
  23. CHAPTERS FROM A COLD WAR-ONE AMONG MANY | Joe Carvalko Another story recounting the tale of Roger. This one is a bit tough to read, but is MUCH more in-depth. Again, not advocating for this to be the family - but these sorts of stories absolutely NEED to be told and retold until they all come home. PDG
