I have zero reason to believe that Hulk 180 would ever become the primary Wolverine book to own. The standard has already been set in place and accepted.

yep.  And now that people are putting significant money on 181, you'd be asking people to burn thousands of dollars to change their minds.

Never even thought to consider a lot of what you talked about in considering "IF", "When" and "Where" to open up a brick and mortar comic book store.

    +1

Good read.  I wonder if the above is from your previous forays, or is learned/applied from your work hat took you to Asia.

Word! Same responses on a couple of FB groups where I shared the information. More people belittling the victim and explaining how they'd do it better and different. Finally said the same thing "be on the lookout and/or share the info, otherwise move on."

I didn't see anyone 'coulda, woulda, shoulda' lhcomics or belittle him.  It would be nice if, when he gets his book back, he and other dealers could have some measure of increased protection from the scumbags who take their books so they don't have to disappear from shows.  It seems natural to try to find improvements when a high profile book gets taken, ideally to come up with a way to make it impossible to steal a book and get away with it.

Ive sold multiple Hulk 181 and af15 at same con. I’ve sold action 1 and superman 1 and tec 27 etc. at cons. Likelihood of selling is 0% if you don’t bring but 100% potential if you do bring :)

every book i bring (and I suspect most all dealers) i have the intention of potentially selling

I bought one of my AF15's at NYCC.

Interesting.  I wondered if they were simply too high priced for people at cons to buy, or that dealers make more money selling them in another avenue.  My proposed display would not be great if the book had to come off the wall.

Hopefully ihcomics gets his back and an anti theft solution is found, so dealers don't have to worry.

  5. What's the likelihood of selling an AF15 or Hulk 181 at a convention?

If the book is there for attraction/marketing purposes only, a back wall could be designed out of steel or aluminum, with angle iron/angle AL at the top and bottom on the books, so one would have to slide all the slabs up to the AF15 out of the rack at the side to get it out.

I have to go back to "unjust enrichment", since PGX didn't benefit from their mistake, but a seller did ...whoever the "original submitter/seller" is/was (and because of the grade date of this particular book, it's been assumed that the eBay seller is that person.)

You do keep going back to it, but like I pointed out, benefit is not a requirement for responsibility.  A car accident typically benefits no one, but someone often bears responsibility.

This is nonsense. Who is the clown at ebay who thinks this is a great idea? Oh-- and to add insult to injury-- they try to also force you to lower your price every X number of days until it reaches a certain number. You have to unclick that default AND then deny it when adding the listing. If they start to force that on me, that is it-- I am out. I'm not terribly happy about this forcing a best offer on me either.

It is a great idea.  Just for ebay, not sellers.

What choice do you have, though?

You’re confusing early comic convention attendance with comic collecting. But if you have rigid definitions of each then what can I say ? I was collecting beginning in 1960 at 8 years old. I amassed a pile two feet tall, which I allowed my mother to toss — just that one time, After that, I was going to the stationary store every week amassing comics each week. Read and add to the pile.

But that doesn’t make me a collector?

Receipts or it didn't happen, bro.

This is exactly how I took that counter offer. Not even a serious counter IMO. Anything I have listed on eBay with "Best Offer" has AT LEAST 10% wiggle room in the price. If I'm not willing to discount an item at least that much I won't even bother with the Best Offer option. Total waste of time for both parties.

If you list expecting at least to give 10% off, why not list it already with 10% off?

If someone offers 10% less than your ask, do you auto-take it, or make a counter offer?

I can only respond to what is written. OP did not say they would make $30 total. They said $1-$30 per book.

Whether that's better depends on the effort per dollar cost.  if you sell online, you have to scan, price, and list 3 books to come close to equivalent profit.  If you sell physically, you have to transport 3x as much weight and volume.  The rub is the matter of diminishing returns, the longer your money is trapped in that $900 book and the more instances you go back home with it.

I've always thought travel was a waste of money, gone forever. While on vacation, I would think about the comics I could have bought with the money. As far as the recollection, it fades over time, especially the emotional feelings. AT some point, it's no different than the memory of a good movie.

What you can learn about new places and people can have a profound effect on you.  i was lucky to have traveled extensively as a child through my mid 20s, for extended periods, which has shaped who I am and how I see existence.  To each his own, though.  If the comics bring you joy and travel doesn't, I wish all the comics for you.  I'd trade a Tec 27 or Action 1 for a few years of living in Mauritius in a heartbeat.
