The "E" also looks like it was made with 3 strokes rather than 2, as is clear in the verified signature.

To be honest with you two, the "FAR" in McFarlane are all bothering me...

lord knows none of my signatures on checks and stuff look exactly the same, (esp on those stupid touch screens), but the way I write it is the same.

a few weeks ago, I tried to recreate the blue hologram on a Wolverine 75 where the other 2 were blue. I place the book in the same bag as a blue one and left it in heat for several weeks (humidity also) but the hologram is still green.

I'm not sure what causes it to turn blue

yesterday I found this lot on ebay

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/X-Force-25-NEWSSTAND-X-Men-25-X-Factor-92-Lot-RARE-BLUE-HOLOGRAM-HIGH-GRADE/223071932545?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

I've got a heat gun and some extra X-Factor 92s, I'll test and report back.

Yeah, I got that, and it was on the first removal which stated item #7 which was listing scans...so when I reposted I started posting scans on the books being requested.  Again I was trying NOT to list 400+ scans in the thread. I have seen many threads over the years, with very little scans specifically for that reason...I guess it changed OR I still have a boardie with a bug up his arze looking for something wrong in my threads so he can tell on me

I've seen threads where scans are linked to a photo hosting site, that shouldn't be a problem.  I've also seen threads with titles and condition listed, with no scans.

I've got a question about payments via PayPal.  Since personal payments are not allowed as a listed option, that means payments are subject to PayPal fees of 2.9% + 0.30.  As a seller, do you factor those fees into your list price?  I think for the most part when I've been buying stuff, I've been adding a little on top to cover fees.  But I'm just wondering if i've been too nice this whole time.  I suppose it depends from seller to seller and I should always confirm before issuing payment, but just curious how you factor in fees.

I don't factor it in on sales prices.  For me it seems a fairly tough sell on the boards usually even at a discounted price, let alone adding in the fee.

I don't think it's been mentioned, but not only does Paypal forbid using Friends and Family payment for the purchase of merchandise, it also prohibits sellers from adding a surcharge for using Paypal as a payment method. In other words, you can't price something at $100 and then say add 3-4% on top of that if using Paypal to pay for the item. I see a lot of big time dealers on the boards adding this surcharge on their sales and it violates Paypal's terms of service. As it was mentioned above, the 3% fee is the cost of doing business and the price you pay for getting paid in seconds rather than waiting for a check to arrive in the mail.

It's also the price you have to pay for Neteller, e-wallet, europay, etc. being forced out of the market by the government and competing with paypal.

It's been a while since I have bought any new DC comics, so yesterday I had to pick up a few things at the local Walmart, and while there I thought I would look for the 100 pagers. I finally found where they keep their collectible cards and sure enough, they had some DC comics, but not the 100 page giants. Instead they had $5 three-packs. So I got three cover price $2.99 comics for five bucks. Let's see, that comes out to a price of about 55% of cover cost or 45% off, however you want to look at it.

I bought four packs for the heck of it. If anyone wants to know what I got for my twenty bucks:

    The New 52 Future's End 7, 8, 14, 15, & 17.

    Supergirl (rebirth) 1

    Harley Quin (rebirth) 1

    Batman Trinity (rebirth) 1

Batman: I am Suicide (rebirth) 1

    Batman: Eternal 23,

    Grayson (the new 52) 4

Infinity Man and the Forever People: Future's End 1

They are dated from 2015 through 2017

So for a $1.67 each I'm not complaining, That is until you all chime in and tell me you can find these in the dollar bins at the lcs's lol, but that's okay, as long as I get my entertainment value out of them.

Anyways it appeared that there were enough comics there that I didn't envision them running out any time soon.

Five dollars today is probably what it felt like when I spent a dollar or so back in my childhood so I see this as a good thing. And anyone buying this hodge-podge of different numbered issues may end up going to the local comic shop to get the missing issues so as to have a complete story. I have to believe this is a win win situation.

There was a thread on these last fall I think in the modern forum.  I went and bought a couple of packs as well.  There was also a marvel pack, but those were reprints.

I think most people who saw TFA did so because the original cast was showcased in the marketing. The "Chewie, we're home" bit from the second trailer was the centerpiece of the marketing, and that's what got the GA really excited about the movie. Rey, Finn and Poe are not popular enough on their own to attract audiences to SW. Expect Lando to be heavily showcased in the marketing for IX, the Falcon, maybe a Luke force ghost, and some other callbacks to the OT. By hiring J.J. for the next installment, Lucasfilm knows they have a problem.

Yeah.  Ahsoka Tano from the cartoon is a character that can hold her own.  Finn is pointless, practically comic relief, and Poe is like Gold Leader 4 level of interesting.  Rey is okay, but not actually compelling.

  8. Hi all.  Got this rough X-Men 12 up for sale.  Estimated 2.0.  It's got a couple small holes in the interior, looks like it took a blow from something.  All pages are here.  I bought it out of the back issue bins in the late 80s/early 90's

Some cgc books tend to be a little more pricey than other companies so looking for a particular book at a cost I can afford.

It's not going to be cheaper to buy non-cgc, crack, send to cgc, than just buying cgc in the first place unless it's a big spread

Umm...except that there were a handful of artists trying damn-hard to imitate McFarlane.

Stephen Platt, I think, was the most obvious example. Moon Knight 55 took off precisely because it featured "a new artist who drew like McFarlane" -- and among his early covers -- Moon Knight 55-57, Prophet # 4 variant and Prophet # 5 may as well have been drawn by McFarlane.

Capullo's another one -- there's a reason he was the first to follow McFarlane on Spawn -- he'd been mentored and trained up by him.

I'd even argue that Liefeld was heavily influenced by McFarlane, who both inked and co-penciled some of the early Liefeld New Mutants issues.

It's all opinion, but I personally never found those guys to have adopted McFarlane's style.  Which is perhaps to McFarlane's credit, that he was unique enough that he couldn't really be imitated.

He is a rockstar of comics and worth about 400 million. Probably richer than Stan Lee and the all-time richest comic book creator.  This guy is one shrewd businessman. Kind of like Gene Simmons of Kiss. Knows how to market himself, but stepped on a few toes along the way.

If it wasn't for him there would be no Image Comics most likely. He is what drove the engine of Image to be born and kept it afloat during the lean years.

Imagine if he left Image during the late 90s? We might not have The Walking Dead as we know it today.

Agree, I meant influence on artistic style, in line with what VintageComics posted

Really? You don't think that the early 1990's were basically a bunch of artists that emulated McFarlane?

Just as the 80's were basically an emulation of Miller's style, I saw the 90's as an emulation of McFarlane's style. Even Jim Lee at one point looked like TM.

    Maybe I'm wrong.

I've always found McFarlane's work doughy and cartoony, so I can't say I saw much of that influence.  I didn't collect a wide range of titles though

  13. 10 hours ago, VintageComics said:

And to my recollection, I don't think any artist of the last 40 years created as much of a buzz as Frank Miller did. :Literally everything he touched became a collectible and most artists changed their styles to emulate his back in the 80's when his popularity peaked.

Jim Lee was the only other that I can think of that took off on that scale.

    Maybe I'm forgetting someone?

    Of course. I forgot McFarlane.

    mcFarlane was not really imitated

    lol Exactly.

Actually the problem with most laws is that we have a bunch of insufficiently_thoughtful_persons in congress (on both sides) that enacted silly legislation.

It cracks me up when I see those same members of congress outraged at career bureaucrats and their actions, when in actuality, those bureaucrats are only following the stupid legislation (laws) that congress has passed.

Saw a meme a little while ago that pretty much summed government up.  It was regarding Congressmen, but really applies to all of them.  It read, 'It costs $4 million dollars to land a $125K job.  Who do you think they work for?'

The legislation is never stupid, it's just selectively beneficial.

I assume he's asking about interior art or the combination of writing and art, since great (or at least popular... enough) cover art often has a significant impact on prices.

But that's no reason to contribute to the extreme misuse of "key" in the hobby.

This just seems like a very poorly-worded way to ask which issues are great to actually read.

I don't know, it doesn't seem that hard to figure out.  What would be a key if keys were determined by quality of content?
