  1. I met Dave H. only 15 months ago! The famous Dave's Comics in Detroit, very long-running store. By the end he had at least a semi-trailer load of stuff to dump. Still does shows here and there.
  2. <It’s better than Ralph Macchio’s letter to the editor in Amazing Spider-Man #129. >> But is it better than the sweet three page Steve Bissette backup story I just discovered in an early 80s Sgt. Rock?
  3. Nice! I do remember your reports, now that you mention it. Two notes: 1) We could've gone to a bigger room quite a few shows ago but I'd chalk it up to the lack of affordable suitable venues that have, at the least, parking for the vendors and reasonable load-in. It is also difficult to get rooms that have suitable lighting. You'd be surprised how many places want to rent you rooms that are too dim to "safely" buy comics. 2) My current space is a full on office across from BART in downtown Berkeley! People should visit. Btw, totally agree with you--serious props to Steve Wyatt for keeping the local shows going. He has put on shows since he was a teen in the 70s! There were years, not too long ago, where I would only do two local shows a year, both of them his.
  4. Come to think of it, I bought a short box of comics too. All 1970s. There were a lot of great buyers who showed up Saturday.
  5. The Brain was a stalwart as usual, showing up super early to very necessarily keep the reserved parking lot clear for our vendors to load in. We appreciate you! Major props to MusterMark for driving up from LA to attend! So cool. Minimum 15 board members and two Overstreet advisors in the room. Tons of comics knowledge in the room--including a guy from Santa Rosa who had a comic book store...in the 1970s!
  6. You'll have fun. EdgerX always has a few great golden age books. Champion will have some good ones and Heroes probably more. I'll have three or so boxes of gold up front, including some of the best Ray Storch books. Steve Wyatt is bringing about his full vintage stock. I'd say everyone is going to have some, but I'd ask each vendor to make sure you don't miss them. In terms of GA hero books, I've got some Supermans between 30 and 50, Adventures, and a Sub-Mariner.
  7. God, they are elbow to elbow going through boxes. This show is genius!
  8. Dealer list for this Saturday's show! Steve Wyatt, Champion Comics, Heroes, MVP Comics, Fantastic Comics (CW on the boards), Harvey Doss, Gerry Kleier Books, Anomaly Comics, Worlds of Wonder (EdgerX on the boards), and House of Comics. Record number of vintage comics, by far.
  9. I am going to have to take a look at those boxes again! Edger's new stock looks great!
  10. That was a little hyperbole. It's 2.5 boxes of Arak and the rest of the third box is Arion. What was up with DC in the early 80s with only titles starting with A (including All-Star Squadron)? And bringing back Blackhawk.
  11. The quarterly Berkeley Comic Con returns Saturday, May 5. This will be the seventh show that Wormboy and I have put on and board member support has been tremendous. Heroes and Champion Comics return after doing our show for the first time in January. They will have the entire west wall. All the regular rotating cast of Berkeley Con dealers will also return with lots of fresh stock. We are happy to announce that Steve Wyatt will be setting up this time with the entire north wall filled with his vintage comics, above and below the table. Besides the usual Marvel and DCs, he's bringing Dells, Charltons, Archies, cheap golden age, etc. Steve has been doing shows in Northern California longer than almost anybody so definitely check out his stock and soak up some of his knowledge. Website with wantlist feature, parking info, etc.: www.berkeleycomiccon.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Berkeley-Comic-Con-153498081743352/ Just like last show, only $5 to get in and we have expanded the hours to 11 am to 5 pm.
  12. Wow, Barry Bauman! I only know the name because a friend of mine who was a kid in Oakland in the 60s wrote a great essay about 1960s comic collecting for an adult education class he was taking. Barry had the upstairs attic room in his parents' house with maybe 10,000 40s and 50s comics. His secret source was the Holmes Book company, a multi level downtown bookstore in Oakland that dated to the 1890s, I believe. I believe Barry got out of comics by the early 70s and died very young, possibly a car crash. (If anything in the articles contradicts this, go with the articles.)
  13. Was he there Sunday? I know he had to cancel two of three sessions on Saturday. Never heard about Sunday. Agree, his appearance at shows is a bittersweet thing right now. I hope he's okay and that his daughter can look out for him.
  14. Did Stan sign Sunday? This con really did feel like the last NorCal chance. I believe he did something Friday and could only manage one of three sessions Saturday. Good show. Tremendous seeing everyone. I liked the guest list a lot this year. Vintage well represented with Shooter, Wolfman, Rubenstein, etc. Only realized recently that Rubenstein did the finishes for Starlin in the epic Avengers Annual 7/MTIO Annual 2 combo.
  15. The show was way busier than last year on Friday and the comic guest lineup is quite good. Huge progress from year one (two years ago).
  16. Thanks for posting--I looked for a thread a few days ago and couldn't find one. So busy with this short Wondercon/SVCC turnaround that I didn't have time. We are right up front in booth 215.
  17. I really like the idea of this show and applaud John Dolmayan for putting it together. It's both an alternative to SD and also kind of the bonus early, early preview night. I always thought this would spring up actually in San Diego (either at an alternative site during the show or the weekend before) but LA makes tons of sense. Especially in conjunction with the art show which is also super cool. What I'd like to see is the Torpedoshow expand and broaden out. Right now with the focus on the best stuff (the flier promotes "over $30 million in investment grade comics" so that's where the focus is right now, naturally) it's more an alternative for those who can't make it to San Diego vs a return to the kind of broad material available 20 or 30 years ago.
