  1. Wow, down to 20-30 books? That's a stunning decline. I actually remember your prediction about one of the big two ceasing publication. Guess it depends on how they value the comics contribution to the IP. A lot of the movie and tv concepts come from fairly recent comics--this iteration of GOTG, Civil War, etc. Maybe they will try actually cutting back on the number they publish, which would help everyone, store owners included.
  2. I think DD is tremendous. JJ next best. Cage is fine. Iron Fist has one or two things I like. Rosario is awesome in every one.
  3. Being in that air-conditioned hall was the most pleasant experience. Especially because the layout was nice and humane too. We're so used to SF being cold in the summer and the minute you walk outside and get hit with 80+ degrees at 7:30 pm was surreal for everyone.
  4. Oh, I know I said this to Stephen (King of Rulers) directly but publicly I also want to give kudos to the organizers KOR and Tupenny for putting comics and comic dealers front and center at this show. Yes, there is a lot of cosplay and other geek things to do, but the Bronze Age Batcave booth and our booth were the first things people saw, after walking through the gateway with all the classic comic images. Nice guest list too.
  5. Really fun show. Ended with a bang with tons of people making last minute purchases. A lot of shows don't have that. Great vibe. People are super happy to have a show back in SF.
  6. Good job. Nice that you pulled it off. If you do this for SVCC next spring, Harvey and I might be able to come.
  7. To be fair, the promoters are serious comic guys and board members. One of them wrote a manuscript about collecting comics and was shopping it around to publishers. This show is way more comic-centric than most big shows around the country. The trade dressage they had outside the entrance last year was incredible with really perfectly chosen vintage and modern images. They get good comic creator guests, but they can't control what vendors sign up. Last year was a very successful show, so I'm kind of baffled at the vendor list. It must be a holiday weekend thing, plus the conflict with Long Beach. And of course San Francisco hotel prices... Also, the vendor list was absolutely front and center, right at the top of the main home page. (Maybe if you're using a phone it doesn't show up well?) Bunky Brothers should have some incredible stuff and I am bringing more than ever.
  8. Harley is in Toronto for that big show--apparently this is a giant weekend for cons! (even a Sac-Anime in Sacramento this weekend). I'm sure the reason is the cheaper rates and availability this weekend. Harley is sending his nephew out with a few boxes.
  9. The exhibitor list is right on the website. I'm right up front so hope to see people there this weekend. I will also have five extra boxes of consignment golden age..
  10. That Wings was extra sweet-great pickup. This seems like a good excuse for me to figure out the easy new board capabilities for posting images. At least I should post the Our Army at War 151 (1st Enemy Ace) that I picked up.
  11. The Facebook page if you want to follow it for regular updates: https://www.facebook.com/Berkeley-Comic-Con-153498081743352/
  12. Ah, yes. That was me at SVCC. See you at the SF Comic Con I hope!
  13. Cool. Can you let us know how you found out about the show? We're always trying to figure that out. In the old days a promoter just needed fliers at all the local stores but that's less effective these days when trying to reach vintage collectors.
  14. Totally helpful! We need at least one morning person on hand!
  15. The question is, who is traveling the furthest for the November show? We had inquiries from San Diego and Oregon for this one but I think the record turned out to be Chico. For Nov. I'm hoping the record is at least Vancouver!
  16. Wish we could do Sundays but the venue is booked for church on Sundays. A CW post! You know this is an amazing show if it gets him on the boards. He and I used to do Wondercon together the last few years that show was in SF.
