  1. it really is a beauty! well done! i love your copy too-
  2. i'm back in the club now thanks to bob storms. this is the best 5.0 i've ever seen. the back has a slight water stain, that must be the reason. looks more like a 6.5 to me otherwise. i'm super happy to have this book in my collection!
  3. like a proud parent i must say that that's my old copy, which i traded to omaha-cgc to upgrade to a 4.5 that's similarly well presenting and has no chipping. but i still miss this one too. scored it from an ebay seller that i worked a private deal with in 2015 for a good price, although not cheap.
  4. since the last reply to this thread, Hulk181 has seen a roughly 20 per cent increase in price for grades from 7.0 up to 9.4. ( i havent really followed lower grades) it's been an insanely fast explosion. in early april i was quoted prices that i did not act on, and within a week or two the same book had sold for $500-$1000 more. i haven't seen such a fast jump in price on another key book until recently. of course now every documented sale on gpa has everyone raising the price on theirs for another grand more than the last sale, so it can't last forever. might there be a drop, or just a plateau? remembering what happened with AF15 exploding last summer and then this year coming back down.
  5. other than feeling bad for those fired, i'm gonna file this one under 'who really cares, and why does anyone use this terrible company anyway??' really irks me when comiclink offers pgx books in their auctions. makes one have to guess based on one scan how many grades lower it will end up when taken out and sent in to CGC. and who knows if it will end up having been restored or conserved. whenever a dealer has pgx books, it makes them look cheap, IMHO.
  6. this is not a toy. its a star wars painting i recently made. i thought this thread would appreciate it, since the 'post your artwork' thread doesnt get alot of views, but i guess it might get kicked out since its not technically an action figure. on instagram, every third comment tends to be about spock, often negatively, or asking why he's there.
  7. here's "Batman Family 2," - it's acrylic and oil paint on an antique photo. the back of the photo says it's from about 1894 and this is the Ehrlich family. it's called Batman Family 2 because i did an earlier version with the original yellow batwoman costume in it. this one has the modern batwoman in it, which i prefer.
  8. congrats! from this dark picture, your 2.5 looks better than your 4.0!
  9. this one is called "Batman's Villains 2," because i did another version before this. And I will likely do yet another, since neither of these has harley quinn in them. oil and acrylic on antique cabinet card photograph. i'm on instagram at @artofalexgross if you like these. i posted some more there and on alexgross.com thanks--
  10. he took all his hulk 181s and also his JIM83s and upped the prices on ebay once the recent auction highs were acheived. his strategy is clearly to keep everything overprcied until someone is desperate enough to set a new price high with him. amazing he ever sells anything.
  11. and also thank goodness for pgx for all the laughs they’ve given us. i cant beleive that CL still allows them in their auctions.
  12. just did a deal with george, great communication and fast shipping. recommended seller for sure!
  13. not that common for a bronze book. most CC CL and heritage auctions will have maybe one or two WP copies between 8.0 through 9.8 and usually twice the amount in non white page quality. ASM129 is easier to find with WP. perhaps collectors are hording the WP more than previously.
  14. so's 181. and so's AF15. not like they're going to stop increasing in value either.
  15. the 9.4 that just sold on ebay was at a store in st louis. i spoke to them on the phone. their store price was $6,400, i wanted it, but the guy didn't want to deal with shipping. it was a bit baffling since he has to ship through ebay too, but in the end he waited for his price, and got it. after his fees he still came out a bit ahead, assuming he has an ebay store. it's very tough to imagine that the book will go up much more in the near term. but everyone who has said this has been proven wrong before. one thing is clear, the premium for nice white page copies seems to also be increasing. they seem less common than on ASM129 in all mid to high grades.
  16. all grades now officially on fire. people here talking last year about how crazy it was that a 7.5 was $1500, now it's almost 3k for that grade with white pages. this seller also has a feeback score of 2. i want to get more copies but perhaps buying at the peak is not the best move.
  17. i'm looking at a book on ebay that's being sold by a seller with almost no feedback profile at all. seems there's a decent chance it could be a scam, and that i won't actually receive the book if i win the auction. i've had paypal credit me once before on a high priced item (4k) i purchased outside ebay, where i was shipped an empty box. i'm just wondering if anyone here has had direct experience with ebay when you have won an auction and not received the item. do they protect the buyer well as i've heard?
  18. ditto. also rather have hulk1, AF15 and JIM83 while i'm at it. also, TTA35 is a way better cover than TTA27, i have always been sad that it never got the love it deserves. i love antmans costume!
  19. "Two-Face," before and after. acrylic and oil on antique cabinet card photograph, 6.5 x 4.5 inches.
  20. hope i didn't post this one before! its called "Bad Girls," before and after, and it's acrylic and oil on an antique photograph. this one is a little larger, the photo is 6.5 x 8.5 inches. you all know who the ladies in the painted version are. mixing dc and marvel universe imagery always feels a little crazy to me, even at this advanced age.
  21. congratulations! theres no better thrill than selling an expensive painting. except perhaps buying the comics you want with the money you got! who's your art rep?
  22. this is actually my first graded figure. hard to plunge deep into this hobby AND comics at the same time, much as i would like to. had all the original 12 as a kid and still vividly remember the excitement of getting each one, and then the second wave of the 21 back characters. and i had a boba fett that i sent away for with proof of purchases. but never had one in the box, until now.
  23. guess that pretty much sums it up. you are right of course.
  24. thanks for the advice- i did find the thread here started by foolkiller 12 years ago on doug and his past legal issues among other things. definitely makes one hesitate to bid in an auction on a private site where the possibility of shill bidding is real and impossible to decipher, unlike ebay where it's at least somewhat transparent.
