Official 2019 Green Eggs Grading Contest Prize Thread
Sal replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Comics General
having not donated a prize, i personally would feel awkward accepting another person's largesse, so i am going to pass on making a selection. Thanks to Andy and Shin for being so generous with their time and energy to run this contest over the years.- 1,092 replies

Who knew that Wolverine had the ability to keep his mask still on when it was completely ripped in half??? I guess that tuft of hair on the left side of his head is holding it in place

FF Annual 2 with Tape on Spine
Sal replied to Jordysnordy's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
iirc, there was a message from Stan Lee in one of the early days of the Marvel revolution where he advised people to do this very thing, for the reinforcement reason given above. there's also the episode of Antiques Roadshow where a guy brings in a suitcase full of the top 60s Marvel keys, all of whose covers were completely covered in shellac. said he did it for "preservation" or something similar -
The Berkbridge Foundation - Questions Regarding Legitimacy
Sal replied to Cat's topic in Comics General
Gee, that email exchange completely seems like the kind of thing a totally legitimate charitable organization would do when getting a simple request for documents they are legally required to provide, and not at all like a group of people running a complicated scam and hoping the requestor goes away by obfuscation or intimidation. Totally legit. -
wooowee, did i miss this one. i had the invaders - which looks more squished than someone in the middle seat between two NFL lineman - as an 8.5, mostly because i saw what looked all the world to me like a number of creases, especially on the bottom of the top staple. :tonsofbricks: the AA 89 i vacillated between a 4.0 and a 3.5. those creases on the cover and that giant honking stain on the back would have kept it out of VG+ territory for me personally

Fantastic Four 14 with rusty staples!
Sal replied to Steviehuv66's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
OGG says you can have not only discolored staples, but slight rust migration up to F/VF. I think the book is a toss up between a F/VF and a F+. it's got a lot going for it -

i'm flummoxed that someone would deliver a box that had to be signed for to the wrong address. that's just insane. i can see getting a neighbor's mail every once in awhile, maybe the carrier grabs an incorrect/extra item from the stack and puts it in your mailbox. But a box? that they had to take out of the truck, walk up to reception, and get a signature for? Man, i would be sooooo pissed off. Good luck to you RMA, hope it works out in your favor, insomuch as it can at this point -

What's new in your Silver Age collection this week
Sal replied to Silver's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
sweet books! are the normal notes on the back side of these new custom labels? -
@Silver - this looks like a White Mountain book, which somewhere along the line lost its Pedigree designation. Might want to look into it.

British sketch cover artist Gary Parkin - swipe or not?
Sal replied to Juno Beach's topic in Comics General
you can always tell when someone who has never drawn from life - or studied basic anatomy - copies an image, especially one that is not ultra high-res. if the source image contains shadows or pixelation which hide the actual features, the person doing the work doesn't know what the shadows actually mean, resulting in something like "Stan's" right ear in that pic. Either Stan had a shadow career as a wrestler, or this guy has never actually looked at an ear while attempting to draw one. Spidey's hand is the same way. Copying what one sees in a picture, rather than repeatedly attempting to illustrate from a live subject -
Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...

i don't think you can conflate the entire "Asian market" like that, especially for films. as far as "heroes" are concerned, each country has their own cultural definitions, history and legends - many of which involve their hero vanquishing another Asian country. I dunno how popular Bruce Lee was in Japan after he went in and kicked that entire Japanese dojo's azz in The Chinese Connection. to say that there is an "Asian character" means that the whole of Asia will flock to see it is a fallacy. i think the Chinese market mayyyyy gravitate to it, depending on how well it's done, casting, etc. i can easily see the movie doing overseas. i do think it will be a moneymaker for Marvel, though, because the number of people who will flock to see well-done martial arts is legion. i can only hope and pray they not only keep the wirework down, but use the Shaw Brothers style of showing fights full-scene, rather than what we mostly have now...a bunch of rapid cuts and reaction shots -
i hear Mike's a good dude, but YMMV
-
somehow, "I own the New Mutants 100 9.9...what do you collect, sonny?" doesn't really have the gravitas it needs, does it

So my friend bought some chairs off craigslist
Sal replied to ivegotneatstuff's topic in Comics General
firstly, not sure why some random picture of Ms. Ryan sitting on a chair makes one think that the chair was on Star Trek. I mean, she's an attractive lady, stands to reason this could be a photo shoot from literally anywhere. secondly, your chair is significantly different from the one she is sitting in. the back is different, the base is curved in yours and not in the one in the picture. lastly, the chair she's sitting is available at a bunch of different shops online, including AMZ; https://www.google.com/search?q=Picket+House+Furnishings+Peek+Acrylic+Z-Chair&oq=Picket+House+Furnishings+Peek+Acrylic+Z-Chair&aqs=chrome..69i57&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
