  1. well, thanks for the heads up...not sure i'll remember, but i will do my darnest! i am assuming you'd not want to pull those out and save the fees, provided they're even charging you considering the volume you're doing
  2. even if it's not CT - which i doubt because of how bad it looks - how is it not factoring into the grade? odd book
  3. the guy sure seems to like relisting the same books over and over again. there's not a single thing fishy about that at all
  4. I don't remember signing that animation cel, but i was really depressed when i looked all around and didn't see my name at first. I only got to know Nik a little bit, but like Arex said, he would treat you like family if you gave him the merest indication you were worthy of his friendship. The boards are so much poorer for his absence.
  5. What a great book. I'd love to own a copy some day. My initial, immediate impression is 3.0/3.5. That purple cover really does not hide anything. But then i see Dey saying G/F. Then I look in the CGG vol 2 and i'm thinking even 3.0 is pushing it, given the sheer amount of wear. Then there is the GA bump to consider (although this is technically Atomic Age, tbh). I think the wear in the URC keeps it lower than a G/F. Hard to be more sure without seeing it in hand, since darker covers tend to look worse in scans.
  6. did the Eagle award badge get put on any other books? I feel like there were some but can't remember any. for me, Wolverine became a really interesting person extemporaneously with 162, the issue where he fights off the Brood infection in what is essentially a solo story. and the most disappointing day of my early collecting life was removing issue 176 from the brown paper sleeve they used to send subscription copies in and seeing that JR JR cover. especially since 175 is my favorite non-Byrne cover of the whole title
  7. what's the over/under on the FMV for a 9.7, using these two values as a starting point? I would think the number would be closer to the 9.6 price, rather than right in the middle
  8. that's why all sellers of high-dollar books should get some phony return address labels that would indicate that stealing the package would be a complete waste of time, like "Pete's House Of Yarn" or "Whack-a-Pole Vintage Massage Wand Emporium" or "Gaia's Vegan Ingredients 4 Less." This of course assumes the perps can read, which in this day and age is not a sure thing by any measure
  9. boy i wish i could delete this post.
  10. Oh, yes. Let's. Such an underrated book.
  11. MM needs a gritty reboot. that outfit ain't gonna translate to modern audiences in live action formats. but if he got a Vertigo reboot with a more 'modern' feel, i agree with you, the potential is pretty much off the charts; his powers are so well-suited to modern FX
  12. honestly, i think they're rejecting this cover because that chick is wearing her shoes in bed, which goes beyond the pale. i mean, you can't swing a dead ferret without hitting an image of an exposed butthole, but images of people who wear their filthy, germ-ridden shoes in bed like this? i can't decide if i am more aghast or queasy
  13. like me tenth straight year of missing this show. everyone have a great time, stay safe, and enjoy the absolutely awful stench of pretentiousness that fills the air in the City That Wishes It Was Atlanta
  14. "Have saw?" Seriously, "have saw?" my blood pressure is fine but this is the sort of thing that has bubbled up during the entire time i've been reading this thread, which should have started and ended with "Aliens 3," a movie with everything going for it going in except apparently a lack of studio interference
  15. actually, the more i think about this, the more i believe someone would have to be willfully ignorant on a level of stupefaction to think that the line would be added as a 'return.' they would have to believe that the books would be sent back to the PRINTER and then disassembled, and re-run through the freaking line to get that mark on there. okay, so that's pretty idiotic. color me corrected
  16. it's easy to see how someone might think this bar was added post-production; they have no idea how printing works, and have no ability to question 'facts' which are delivered by a source with confidence. some people immediately view all information with skepticism, some people view the same information as gospel, and then the rest of us find a healthy mix of the two. in this case, a rudimentary amount of knowledge about press printing would point a person in the correct direction
  17. oh, if only the market was logical. things would be so much easier on just about everyone
  18. FF 250. Gladiator chases some skrulls to Earth and mayhem ensues. wall-to-wall action by Byrne in his post-Xmen prime. What If? 32 "What if the Avengers had Become Pawns of Korvac?" Yeah i know these are both Copper. Sue me
  19. firstly, condolences on your loss. second, i think your instincts are correct; you're going to have to do at least a cursory inventory. you don't need to worry about grades so much at first, unless books are really beat up. no one is going to give you top dollar on a bulk purchase from that time period based on condition. just catalogue the contents of each box at the start and then with a little research you can make some decisions about which ones should garner more of your attention. as a general rule, if you have heard of the character as a 'layman,' then there's more likely a value to that book or series. the figurines/toys is a different story. i think doing searches of sold listings on ebay would be your best bet to establish which would be worth your time trying to sell versus donate or some other option
  20. they also only mention "7 legends" signing the book when there are clearly 8 sigs on there. this whole thing just looks odd to me. i am guessing they went off the label when they wrote that post instead of looking at the book
  21. one day, a reporter is going to run a story involving comics and the collecting of same and his or her editor is going to refrain from using a sound effect/onomatopoeiac device in the headline, and the entire collecting world is going to orgasm and/or die after. but it won't be today!!1!
