  1. Oops, that was me. Finger slipped. But seriously, it's a shame about the reddish stains on that one, as it really brings down the eye appeal on this otherwise pretty book. That is one eye-popping price for a book with that defect to have reached, even as rare as it is. Wonder if the new owner plans to have it cleaned?
  2. Hey AllTop8Me, just saw the additional wording in your revised Suspense #9 auction: "As some people have noted on the CGC boards with regard to my auctions, when you look at the full Suspense run you're really floored by how many of the covers are quite amazing. "
  3. Re the 21: yep, what he said! I have an Action #19...it looks terrific from the front with bold color & gloss, but no back cover & the front cover is detached. Are you guys counting books below 2.0? Either way, will try to scan & post it at some point.
  4. Hi friend, thanks for the heads-up. I'm confident they'll finish out of my price range, but I'll keep an eye on them. I was very impressed with your Suspense run! Can only imagine how long & how much money it took to put together. Good luck with the sales!
  5. Thanks for the kind words on the #10, folks. Linmoth, that is a great Suspense #7! Another underrated cover that I've always liked, & I'm sure the cover reds & yellows really pop in hand...that's a beautiful copy.
  6. In honor of that insane full run of Suspense Comics on ebay recently, here's my copy of Suspense #10. Spine is a bit chewy but cover has rich color and gloss, looks way better than grade in hand. I just love this cover! And when you think about how #10 is actually one of the less-sought-after covers of the run...well, that's a pretty friggin' amazing run, wouldn't you say? Anyone else got any Suspenses to post?
  7. Kudos to october for a very nice Batman #237. As always, Andy, you're the last best hope for my BA Batman collection! Thanks again! --Jon
  8. Norinn, apologies if you've answered this already, but which early Detectives are you after? Just curious...
  9. Thumbs up to Rick (bubbagump) for very fast pay on the Spidey #39...great guy to deal with. The book shipped out on Friday, so it should be in the mailbox soon. Thanks very much!
  10. Sounds like a good list, Nikos, and happily an attainable one I would imagine. I'd eventually like to find both ASM 20 and Detective 400 as well, though if they're grails for you then I'm guessing you're looking for higher grades than I am. Do you have a target grade range for each? I'm about 80% done with my SA Spidey run, but ASM 20 is one of the odd issues that always eludes me. I've found that the light green cover tends to look kind of cruddy or tanned on most copies in the VG range, and I haven't found a 20 with quite the balance of eye appeal (high) and price (cheep!) that I'm looking for. So, always on the lookout. Best of luck on your list!
  11. Wow, beautiful #22! That is on the short list of my favorite Shuster Action covers; I'd love to have one someday. And yours presents much better than grade. Congrats!
  12. Matt, I can't believe you haven't started on Timelys yet. Try one...you'll be hooked! I have Marvel Mystery #33 (Japanese attack NYC cover) and #50 (insane Schomburg WWII demon/samurai cover). To answer your question above, the stories aren't quite as graphic as the covers, but they are still pretty entertaining with that classic Timely mix of innocence and cheerful violence. They're kids' stories, but well above average for GA storytelling in my opinion.
  13. I'm really hoping to score a nice GA Superman at the Javitz show. I haven't bought one since last summer...starting to get the shakes. Sweet books, Matt!
  14. Kudos to divad for his Avengers #95! Quick and secure shipping, and very tight grading on a nice book. Well pleased...thanks very much! --Jon
  15. Yeah, never seen that one before. I like everything about it! Extremely cool.
  16. I like it! I'm gonna start a thread called "Comic Cavalcade: Best GA DC Title!" and see if I can lure some of you guys away from collecting Actions & Supermans....
  17. Hey, I debated bidding on that one! Glad it ended up with a forum member. The best kind of low grade book...looks way better than grade. Very nice!
  18. Thank you, gents! Nikos, that's a beauty of a Tec 431.
  19. That editorial page is a riot, Scrooge. But why is the list of Marvel titles in the sidebar divided into "Red Unit" and "Blue-Yellow Unit"? I don't see any obvious division by genre, title etc. Anyone know what they're talking about?
  20. Finally added this book to my collection! Wonderworld 7 is one of the GA grails I've been seeking for many years...Lou Fine at his finest. It's a beater for sure, but the cover image looks nice for the low grade and it's quite readable. I doubt I'll ever get the chance to upgrade, so I'm thrilled just to own it at all!
  21. Hey Scrooge, my pleasure. Of course, your appreciation for most of the books I mention will depend heavily on your tolerance for early superhero stories in general, which do tend to be very primitive in terms of the writing. The earliest Siegel/Shuster Superman features (say, Action 1-20 or so) are a great place to start though... IMO, they're just plain fun... the stories hadn't yet fallen into formula, and you get this sense of feverish excitement as Siegel & Shuster discover what they can do with this neat character they created. And as Norinn mentions above, some of Bill Finger's early Batman stories have a similar kick to them. The other titles I mentioned tended towards more formulaic stories, although some of the weirder 2nd- & 3rd-tier heroes and WWII plots still keep things interesting. Hope you enjoy!
