  1. Great Action 108! And with the black cover, must be impossible in that grade. Congrats!
  2. Great Superbooks, guys! Here's my newest pickup...Planet Comics #43. I'm beginning to see why these Fiction House books are all the rage. Cool back cover too, check it out!
  3. Thanks for the kind words guys.... Actually I do see what you mean, Brian... the fact that the cover scene is an interior, and the whole "mad scientist" theme, makes it more reminiscent of covers like Tec #29 and #35 than of the other early Action covers which all show outdoor scenes. Offhand, I can't think of any other early Actions depicting interior scenes.
  4. Bump for this thread! No progress on the GA Superman front, but here are some new poor man's Actions I've picked up in the last month or so. With thanks to whomerjay for the #32, and thanks to the 'bay for #40 (seller is now NARU'd so I truly got lucky with this one). Both are low-grade copies with a number of hidden flaws in addition to the obvious ones, but they are complete, display nicely & I'm thrilled with 'em!
  5. Kudos to Juan (mrhighgrade) for some sweet Adams Detectives. Nice books, great packing, well pleased. Thanks very much!
  6. Here's Power Comics 4, an LB Cole cover I haven't seen here before. I love not just the handling of the eagle, but the bold color scheme on this one...it really has that classic 1940s GA look to it, and must have really screamed on the newsstands! The interiors are similar to Suspense Comics, above average art & stories for the time.
  7. Major league kudos to the following board members: October Scrooge comicdey bubbagump 143ksk bobpfef for making my GA marketplace sale last week a success and a whole lot of fun! All six of them paid extremely fast, with excellent & friendly communication throughout. Can't ask for a better group of guys. Big thanks!
  8. When I was collecting Coles, the #108 was very high on my list and I never did snag one. I agree, tough in any grade, and that rich black cover is especially unforgiving in low grade.
  9. Great books, Collin! I've never seen either of those "Shocks" in high grade...very nice.
  10. Great to see this thread get some action! You guys are inspiring me...I'll have to scan a few of my Cole covers to post here soon.
  11. Many thanks Rick, very glad you were pleased with the books. And I remember you saying these are your first GA comics, so welcome to the extreme addiction that is GA. There's no going back once you start down this path...just ask October!
  12. Geez, while I appreciate the interest, don't get your hopes up TOO high, gents. Early Actions 4.0 and better? I don't even own a 4.0-or-better early Action! Generally speaking, the earlier GA books I'm offering up are in the Fair to Good range (i.e. reading copies, albeit decent ones), while the postwar books average out more towards the VG range. Anyway, you'll see soon enough!
  13. Detective #35 -- "Rare Hairy Chest Variant"
  14. Free can of spam with every $200 purchase? Link to come. Thanks all!
  15. Thanks for the kind words, Dan. Enjoy! PS...don't forget to take the book out of your sig want list...
  16. Hey guys, Starting tomorrow around noon, I'm going to be offering up a nice variety of lower-grade Golden Age and Atomic Age books in the forum marketplace. Come check it out! Everything will be pretty reasonably priced, with prices starting at $9 (really!) and nothing higher than $135. A great chance to pick up an affordable rare ish, or to test the waters on a GA title or genre you don't normally collect. I've always been a fan of the amazing diversity of GA books, and all of the following will have at least token representation: ECs, Fox, MLJ, LB Cole covers, Frazetta, precode horror, romance, western, crime, superhero, anti-communism, & more. (Intrigued, I hope?) Even if you're not in a buying mood these days, I encourage you to swing by and take a look, as I'll be putting up quite a few books not often seen around here. Thanks very much! Jon PS: Apologies for this spam in the GA forum, but I figured some of you don't visit the marketplace regularly. First and last time I will do this.
  17. Kudos to Donut for immediate payment on a vintage EC! Book will ship out this afternoon. --Jon
  18. Hope you can find that coverless copy, Rob! Tec #39 was a grail of mine for some time, and is one of the few early DC grails I've actually achieved...will post it here sometime. I love the cover (great color scheme & perspective, plus Batman knocking the guy off the building!) and the story is very cool too...2nd Robin, but they take on an "Oriental hatchet gang" and the story definitely has that ominous pre-Robin mood to it. Nice pickup!
  19. That's a beauty! And after your experience with that Haunt of Fear #12, must be a relief to have purchased this one slabbed. Did you trade in the #12 to get this book, or did you end up keeping it?
  20. Big props to whomerjay on that low-grade Action #32. Received just as described, & very quickly shipped! Many thanks, kind sir! --Jon
  21. Those are some incredible books, Jon! It's probably about time for you to buy a comic box, though.
  22. Yes, welcome nazmuth! Great set of Mads. How long did it take you to complete the run?
