Alright, as 2018 comes to a close, I got a special gift from my friend Gerhard.  He was able to finish up the sketch covers that Ben did for me in San Diego.  As Gerhard always likes to challenge himself, he took a completely different approach to the sketches this year than he did for the ones he finished for me back in 2016.  What do you think?

Those have to been to most amazing sketch covers I have seen to date.  Certainly the most unique.

  2. Here are my trophies from SDCC 2018.  #1 Ashcan - gold, #2 Ashcan - red (still hoping for a yellow #2 some day), #2 "special edition" ashcan - used for in house purposes.  I already had these in my collection but I got them signed by Ben then CGCd.  As all of them are kept in mylar since day 1 I was hoping for a 9.8 or even a 9.6.  I'm not sure how they grade ashcan editions - but I'm still happy to have them in my collection.  On the other hand, I had a #1 special edition and #2 special edition that I got signed and they were graded higher than I had hoped for.  So it's all good and evens out in the end.

  3. @srezvan  It's my understanding that NEC is attempting to publish Tick on a "regular" schedule with a comic about once every two months.  With that said - if you're not from the NorthEast.  NEC is actually a small chain of comic book stores that happens to publish the Tick Comics and not a stand alone comic book publisher.  So they are pretty busy trying to stay on top of everything comic related - not just publishing Tick comics.

Something to note about the Tick #0 cover: It was primarily penciled by Ben Edlund then inked by Ian Nichols.  So it'a a pretty cool cover with talent from the creator of the Tick and the current Tick artist.

  4. Hi Mollie,

I would like to have these items added to set "The Tick: Ben Edlund Original Set".  Attached are 3 of the 4 I am recommending.  These are all pre-production photocopied comics used to promote the Tick and to see if there would be any interest in producing the actual comic.  They were sent to distributors to give to comic books shops to get feedback.  I have a site documenting Tick comics (www.TickComics.com) and work fairly closely with New England Comics to make sure the site is as accurate as possible.

Set: "The Tick: Ben Edlund Original Set"

Comic: Tick #1 Ashcan (Gold).  (100 were made - date: 1988)

    CGC #: 1951207001

Set: "The Tick: Ben Edlund Original Set"

Comic: Tick #2 Ashcan (Red).  (50 were made - date: 1988)

    CGC #: 1951207002

Set: "The Tick: Ben Edlund Original Set"

Comic: Tick #1 Ashcan (Yellow).  (50 were made - date: 1988)

CGC#: I do not have one of these but VSNDesigns does.

Set: "The Tick: Ben Edlund Original Set"

Comic: Tick #2 Special Edition (Blue Ashcan).  (used for in-house only.  Less than 10 were made - date: 1988)

    CGC #:1 19512070011951207003

    Thank you,

    -Brian

Picked up the last three of these at SDCC, can't seem to find any info on them, they limited to 100. I also picked up some matching numbered sets of comic and blank.

The top commic (NEC Ashcan) was release at Boston Comic Con (Fan Expo Boston) last summer.  It was limited to 100 copies.  It was an exclusive to NEC.  It could also be considered a variant cover to the 2017 series of the Tick comic #1.  There's a little more information on them at http://tickcomics.com/tick_2017.html

    1) I'll be at SDCC this year.  (It's my first Comic Con!)  Does anyone have any of the above comics they would be willing to sell.  I could get them from you at the con if you're going to be there (or via mail if you're not)

    2) If anyone has a Tick want list let me know.  I can go through my collection to look for dups I am willing to part with.  (again, we could meet at SCDD or I could mail them)

    3) For those attending... Anyone interested in trying to have a Tick fan meet up?

  8. I joined last summer but just recently saw this thread.  I've been collecting the Tick since 1988 - but as a casual collector.  I decided to take my collecting more serious and I knew virtually nothing about comic book collecting, let alone grading.  Everyone I have meet here as been super nice and helpful in educating me... and even helped me fill in a couple holes in my collection.  If you're a Tick collector my site is http://www.TickComics.com.  There are no ads or anything.  It just a site dedicated to listing all the Tick comics (and a few magazine article) related to the Tick.

Some people have all the luck!  This is The Flag Five, which played an intrigal part in the new Tick Amazon Prime series.   Members included, Christian Soldier and his pious pooch Onward (Now Midnight), Mighty Atlas, Sedona, Shooting Star, Uncle Samson and his sidekick Straight Shooter (Now Overkill).  I only wish I was the proud owner of this prized object.  That honor goes to Susan Hurwitz Arneson or @batdorkgirl on Twitter.  She's a Co-EP at The Tick, Former Writer for South Park, and currently working on Season 2 of The Tick!  A milestone in The Tick Universe since Patrick Warburton's Series was left with Season 1, with all of us screaming for more.

How big is this and what is it made of?.  It's quit epic looking.

  10. Hi Vic,

1st - the complete first season Amazon DVDs (Emmy or something) are showing up on eBay.  They seem to be averaging in price at around $30.  I just got one for $30 including shipping and I see a couple more like that.  They have all 12 episodes!

2nd.  There are 5 covers to issue 1 of the 2017 series: (1) NEC Boston ComicCon ashcan by Mike Lilly - black and white cover - Tick in Wolverine #1 pose - limited to 75 (2) NEC Exclusive by Mike Lilly - Tick in Wolverine #1 pose - color cover - limited to 500 (3) NEC Ashcan Edition - Tick and Arthur back to back - black and white - limited to 100 (4) the regular cover - Tick on a ladder or something - color and (5) the 1:10 variant cover - Tick and Arthur back to back - color ... meaning the for every 10 copies of the regular cover (style 4) they will print 1 cover of the variant cover - tick and arthur back to back in color.

So to clarify - it's not actually cover 1 of 10 (meaning there were 9 other covers) it means that there are only 1 of those covers for every 10 of the standard cover.  It was a dealer incentive to get stores (or people like you and me) to purchase extra comics.  in order to get the "limited: variant :-).  I don't know the quantities of style 4 and 5 that were printed.  Variants 1,2, and 3 were only available from NEC.  Variants 4 & 5 were for general purchase.

Hope that helps clear things up.
