  1. Agreed. The set looks good. Asides from my aforementioned quibble about not having a pixie cut (to help distinguish) the modern look, my only other complaint is cover E. Don't get me wrong, I love the look. I just wish he had figured out a way to actually make her look like a Colonel. https://jscottcampbell.com/collections/jsc-exclusive-covers/products/captain-marvel-1-j-scott-campbell-exclusive?utm_source=J+Scott+Campbell+VIP+List&utm_campaign=73f0ee094b-CAPTAIN_MARVEL_1_TEASER_2018_COPY_02&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_d5c14a603b-73f0ee094b-438611853&goal=0_d5c14a603b-73f0ee094b-438611853&mc_cid=73f0ee094b&mc_eid=076827f24c
  2. Agreed, that was one of the reasons why I actually bought the UXM set, because it actually required effort on his part instead of slight wardrobe changes. My only complaint thus far is I wish he went with the pixie cut on Captain Marvel here to highlight the look in each iteration.
  3. For the most part, I've kinda tuned out J Scott Campbell emails ever since ASM#800. I mean, I did get the Uncanny X-Men #1 covers, but for the most part, I don't even bother opening the emails anymore. Just delete them as I get them. This has especially been the case the last few weeks because it honestly feels like he's churned out an "exclusive" every few days. I will say, I could be tempted by one or more of these Captain Marvel covers though. If anything, it's just nice to see him doing someone other than MJ, Gwen, or Felicia. https://jscottcampbell.com/products/captain-marvel-1-j-scott-campbell-exclusive?utm_source=J+Scott+Campbell+VIP+List&utm_campaign=c17e1d5574-CAPTAIN_MARVEL_TEASER_2018&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_d5c14a603b-c17e1d5574-438611853&goal=0_d5c14a603b-c17e1d5574-438611853&mc_cid=c17e1d5574&mc_eid=076827f24c
  4. A lot of begging and pleading. I did pay a little extra for the quote. But considering the amount spent between the commission, the signing fee, and having to sub with CGC TWICE! (Chris' original signing date was cancelled forcing me to sub to CGC or risk falling outside the authorized window in which a facilitator could hold the book), I was deadset on having the book exactly how I wanted it. All in all, the little extra I did have to pay is totally worth it because it makes the book that much more unique, plus the quote fits the tone of the art (AND character) perfectly.
  5. Art by Ash Gonzales. Signed "I can do this all day" by Chris Evans. "This is why you were chosen. Because a strong man who has known power all his life will lose respect for that power. But a weak man knows the value of strength and knows compassion."
  6. Art by Ash. Signed "I can do this all day" by Chris Evans. Much thanks to @ivdyer for getting me in touch with Ash, and to @Kevlar for facilitating the signing.
  7. How many copies of Superior Spider-Man you have. You think Stan's sig is bad, have you seen Frank Miller or Jim Starlin? And honestly, I get that it's Friday, but I can't believe this thread is still going. At this point, we're just feeding the troll. (And yes, I realize the irony/hypocrisy that is this post)
  8. East of West #25 Jonathan Hickman variant cover Batman #50 Ssalefish store exclusive Joshua Middleton cover ASM v2 #36 9/11 memorial issue And I say this anytime I see a question like this on the Marvel subreddit...but any cover by Skottie Young is pretty much amazing.
  9. Fortunately for me, I've never had an issue (knock on wood). I just do it this way because of the horror stories I've read on these boards. I don't make very many eBay sales, fewer still that are high value. To date, I've done three sales above $300 where I felt like doing this just to cover myself. There was one transaction for $175 to a buyer in Singapore that seemed sketch (<10 feedback, international sale where I specified domestic sales only), but that one worked out because the buyer just turned out to be a new eBayer.
  10. I think I saw the same infomercial the other day. Was it the one that you apparently hide at home and can use for break-ins, but also works as a dash cam, bike cam, etc? :P
  11. This is surprising. Based on what I've read here, it always sounds like the buyer has all the protection in these cases when they file a claim with eBay and PayPal. For high value books, I'll bring the package to the post office and film in one continuous shot where the book never leaves the camera shot. I'll lay out the book and packing materials, film a close up of the book/CGC number, set the camera to the side always keeping the book in the shot. Then i'll place the book in the package, tape it up, apply the shipping label, turn the box around so all 6 sides are shown to the camera, then i'll take the camera to show the shipping label, before walking over and physically handing it over to the USPS employee. Only after I physically hand off the package, do I stop filming.
  12. I love how you veterans who have been around the block a few times recognize quality of grades throughout the years the way wine afficionado's will say "20xx was a great year because of the rain/drought/etc."
  13. I've never done walkthrough so I can't speak to that, but from my experience with the budget (Modern/Value/Economy) vs premium (Standard/Express) services, I've found that premium submissions typically go from Received to Verified within a day or two as you said. However, my Modern books never move through that quickly. Looking back at my most recent completed submission, I had an Economy submission stay in Received for a month before moving on (pg 504 of this thread). And with that, my total TAT was 44 days compared to an estimated 46 initially provided via the CGC site. Also, I tried the FedEx thing, but right as I signed up for it, the whole thing with FedEx shipments to California came up and now CGC no longer ships to my state via FedEx.
  14. It starts with Verified. Really? I always start counting from when the book appears in their system as Received. In the case of all my submissions, the estimated TAT has been pretty spot on. If anything, I get my book back a week later than I would like simply because USPS Registered Mail takes forever.
  15. Do we know with certainty that the Defenders story is within the current continuity? I just figured it was a side story that occurred at some point in the Marvel timeline, but not necessarily within what is currently the Marvel Present.
  16. I see your baked beans and I raise you a 7 lb Costco sized Refried Beans. You just never know when that Zombie Apocalypse is going to start. Best to be prepared.
  17. Just read it last night and Aaron's Avenger's run thus far has been fun. Nothing memorable or epic, just one of those summer movies that you watch to be entertained, not necessarily because it has any real depth. I mean, the writing is still good, but it's not like Al Ewing Immortal Hulk good. McGuinness' art works well, I've always liked his cartoony style of super hero art. I'm interested to see where the 1,000,000BC Avengers story goes. I just hope he doesn't drag it out the way he has with Thor and the "War of the Realms". Though, it sounds like it might be crossing over? Side note: I really miss when Marvel would leave editorial notes. There's one part in the issue where it would have been nice to see a mention of Infinity Wars (as in, "this issue occurs before "Infinity Wars #6", on stands now! - Editor Name")
  18. Absolutely fantastic setup and organization. That bottom row of books from FF48 thru SS4 is a thing of beauty.
  19. There wasn't anything that I really NEEDED, but I went ahead and pulled the trigger on books that I've WANTED. (the Marvels and Catwoman were from the same seller so I figured I might as well take advantage of combined shipping.)
  20. Tier (also list FastTrack where applicable): Modern S/S TAT as of Receipt Date: 92 Business Days (62 at CCS, 30 at CGC) Number of books: 9 Received CCS: 8/7 At CCS: n/aReceived CGC: 11/14 Verified: TBD Graded: TBD Shipped/Safe: TBD Received (by owner): TBD Tier (also list FastTrack where applicable): Standard S/S TAT as of Receipt Date: 15 Business Days Number of books: 1 Received CCS: n/a At CCS: n/a Received CGC: 11/5 Verified: 11/6 Scheduled for Grading: 11/20 Graded: 11/21 Grading/Quality Control: 11/26 Shipped/Safe: 11/28 Received (by owner): TBD Total TAT: 15 Business Days @ CGC (EDIT: how do get posts locked? I feel this post is routinely updated by some boardie that it's almost always on the front page. Would it be easier to just have it locked so it's always near the top of "Comics General")
  21. Forget the controversey... If you've ever lost a loved one. If you've ever had to summon the strength to stand at the alter, alone, and bare your soul. To try to hold back "weakness" and be strong... If you've ever had to bear witness to a funeral ceremony and pray that a family member can make it through their speech without a total emotional collapse... ...this one's for you. Identity Crisis #1
  22. Hobby. I have an easier time making money in the stock market than I do buying books on a weekly basis and that should tell you everything you need to know to settle the "Hobby vs Investment" debate. The lone exception is buying up books with known demand and value. I'm talking the IH181's, the AF15's, the ASM1 and 300, the FF48's, etc. These are books that were valuable 20 years ago and they'll still be valuable 20 years from now. As with any investment, these carry risk. Will they go up? Will they go down? No one knows. But, I can pretty much guarantee that they will always be worth more than their inflation adjusted amounts from when they originally hit store shelves.
