  2. From what I've been able to piece together, I think there is a creator form or some such that your father would have to fill out and submit along with the CGC SS form. I would call CGC for a definitive answer.
  3. I always assumed the slick side was the acid free side. But when I use full backs with my mylites, both sides are dull so it's starting to make me wonder. Your question is now making me second guess myself.
  4. THE best collected works in your hobby room - The Complete Calvin & Hobbes.
  5. BWL will be with us until at least next summer on the account of a 6 issue miniseries coming out starting in November. https://screenrant.com/batman-who-laughs-miniseries-sdcc/
  6. I can't even tell you the first appearance of the Batman Who Laughs. In all seriousness, I've always been more of a Marvel fan than a DC fan, so that probably plays into it as well.
  7. It's an interesting question. I think the only reason I knew about key issues was because of the Marvel trading cards. I would look on the back and the 1st appearances would be listed. Come to think of it, that's probably exactly how I knew. DC by comparison didn't have any trading cards (at least none that I collected) and I can tell you with certainty that I have no clue what the first appearance of Joker, Nightwing, Robin, Wonder Woman, etc are.
  8. Again, that image counts as shadow. If you're counting shadows as first appearances, then the image from Dark Days: The Casting precedes Metal #1.
  9. I'm just seeing this thread now. My question is whether or not these upswings to both AF and Hulk can be somewhat attributed to the respective characters entry into the MCU. If that is the case, wouldn't it make more sense to expect an upward swing to FF than IH? I'd argue FF is the better short term investment. Though, it's also possible that it's too late to buy an "affordably" priced FF in the 2 months since this thread started. Long term value probably resides in IH#1 though simply because Hulk is a more well known and marketable property and has been for the last 30+ years. But if you're just looking to add to your collection, then it's really a matter of which tickles your pickle (not that it matters since OP already made a decision and bought a book). Personally, the FF cover is more engaging, exciting, and iconic to me.
  10. I wouldn't put much faith in that. I feel like this is one of the big misconceptions about comics. WIth the frequency with which Marvel and DC reboot their universes, there is constantly a new #1 each year it feels like. Sure, some might one day be valuable since first issues can be a good place to introduce new characters and they could theoretically be great starting points for stories. But by and large, #1 issues aren't worth anymore than any other issue to hit the stands. Variants like the Gamestop ones you have might better hold their value potentially due to limited production runs or maybe higher demand (if it's a special cover). But otherwise, for a standard cover, simply being #1 doesn't do much for value on modern books.
  11. All I know is that the 3 Jokers story will be told under the Black Label. https://www.newsarama.com/40935-3-jokers-lands-at-black-label-but-is-in-dcu-continuity.html
  12. Thanks @Rich_Henn! All the gold sigs look great! I think I will definitely be looking to get more sigs until the white edges are filled in.
  13. I received prints lately and was expecting them to arrive in a tube. They instead arrived rolled in a long rectangular box (think 3" x 3" x ~24"). While I imagine tubes are usually good enough, if OP is seriously concerned about safety, they could always get a tube and then place it in whatever long rectangular box I was given. Effectively adding an additional layer of protection. How much sturdier that makes it, I'm not entirely sure, but just a suggestion.
  14. The spine side of comics books are thicker than the flip (page turn) side. When placed in a box, additional pressure is thus applied to the spine side since they're more likely to press up against each other. Conversely, you'll find the flip (page turn) side of your books will be looser. If your books aren't lined up, this could lead to a spine roll. In my opinion alternating books so they face opposite directions applies pressure evenly on either side of the book. It also allows you to store a few extra books in a box. (1) The downside is when you go to look at your collection, it's a little harder to search for the book you want since the covers face both directions. (1) Example: Imagine rating book thickness with the thicker spine side rated a 2, and the thinner page turn side rated a 1. Let's imagine a box can store 100 books for a total thickness of 200 (100 books x spine thickness rating 2). If you alternate books so that a pair of books have a combined thickness of 3 (spine side rated 2 + page turn side rated 1), then that box can suddenly fit 133 books comfortably (200 / 3 = 66.67 book pairs...or 133 books total). (In reality, if you were to rate thickness, it'd be more like 2 and maybe 1.75 so we're really only talking a few extra books/box).
  15. I think it boils down to how you define "major" as I would imagine each person has a different definition. Is a major character someone who has multiple titles or makes multiple appearances or is relevant in many stories (a la Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Hulk, etc)? Or is "major" someone who is well known amongst the comic book community (a la Thor, Deadpool, etc). Frankly, I probably fall in the former category where a characters impact on the universe should be felt in order for them to be considered a "major" character. I think this really limits who I would consider to be major. Venom has been relevant for some time. Eddie Brock Venom though just returned after a long absence from the symbiote. His reach in the various stories is minimal I would say. Even in Dan Slott's arcs, Doc Ock played a larger role. I mean, I understand that Flash had Venom and enjoyed his own run, but did he have an impact in any of the major events? No. While that doesn't diminish the characters popularity in any way, I think the lack of a material impact on the universe and its stories would mean I don't view him as a "major" character per se. But again, my definition could be different from yours or the communities. I feel like I can't really adequately describe my position. I'll just say if we were to grade characters on an A thru F scale (much like we do with A-list, B-list, etc celebs), I would say Venom is an A-list character because he's so well known. But even amongst A-list characters, I think there are a few that would be the equivalent of "superstars". And in my analogy those "superstars" are what I would consider "major". So yes, A-list character, but not enough to be a "major" character. (Gah, hope all those words makes sense.)
  16. Very small issue, I have often wondered how many signature series books were previously slabbed and aren't deleted from the census. On the few occasions that I sent in a blue label book, I always made sure to send the label in as well so they could update their records. But I wonder how many other people do this. Like I said, the difference in the end is probably only a fraction of a percentage.
  17. I agree that comparing Ant-Man and Silver Surfer is like comparing David and Goliath. The Surfer is one of the most well known Marvel heroes outside of Spidey, Cap, and Hulk. I think his following teeters on cult-like as I would imagine many non-Marvel fans could tell you who he is. If you assume a good film and a good trailer are put forth to build hype, then there's no reason why a Surfer movie wouldn't be a smash. I do not think that simply putting out a Surfer movie though GUARANTEE'S bigger numbers than something like Ant-Man. Look at Venom. Hugely popular character, but not a lot of love for the trailers that have been put forth. And if that follows the likes of FF or ASM2, it's possible that fans might stay home. All i'm saying is a name doesn't equal box office success. Secondly, the slate of films that we've gotten have been largely Earth based. That means it's probably easier to do practical effects. GotG has been in space, but I think they've made good use of sets and what not. The Silver Surfer meanwhile spends A LOT of time in space. I would imagine the production budget would be greater than that of Ant-Man & The Wasp. Lastly, if you look at the leading men in the Marvel movies to date, you've gotten a lot of lead actors who have been able to pull in female audiences. Hemsworth, Evans, Pratt, Holland. Girls swoon over the first 3. And as for Holland, I was at D23 last year and when he came on stage, boy did the crowd go wild. The Silver Surfer is gonna be CG. There won't be some attractive guy there for girls to stare at. I think when you take all of that into consideration, the Silver Surfer has more of an uphill battle than you may realize. I think given a well written/produced movie with good word of mouth, $700-$750M would be a theoretical top end estimate.
  18. Not sure where you're getting the idea that Ant Man & The Wasp tanked. The movie has already turned a profit and it hasn't even been released in China yet. The movie is projected to cross the $600M mark WW before all is said and done. Sure, it didn't bring in Black Panther or Infinity War type numbers, but it was never expected to either.
  19. Unfortunately, the board is acid free only on one side. What benefit that provides from a scientific perspective, I have no idea. I'm just a lemming when it comes to the acid free boards. That being said, I recently came across a wholesale dealer of BCW bags/boards that are cheaper than anything I've found online. As others have mentioned, when you buy in bulk, the overall cost goes down. I buy thick bags and then double board so the acid free sides face outwards. I then place a book on either side. This serves two benefits: 1) slight reduction in cost as you are only using one bag for 2 books, 2) it's better to store your books front to back (you don't want all the spines on the same side). https://www.ebay.com/itm/400-BCW-CURRENT-THICK-Comic-Bags-and-400-Backing-Boards/283071882534
  20. So is the first appearance of Tony Stark in the MCU "Iron Man"? Or the "Iron Man" trailer?

  22. $10k, I could get a Jim Lee piece for that amount. Guess I'll just keep settling for art prints for the time being.
  23. I'm afraid to look at prices just cause it'll be yet another thing I want but can't afford.
  24. Grades are never posted until after they pass through QC in case something has to go back and get changed.
  25. As far as Fantastic Four/Silver Surfer related covers go and ignoring the value of the books, I always liked FF#72 more than 48.
