  1. Well, there was this in Secret Wars... https://comicnewbies.com/2015/12/11/god-doom-kills-thanos/
  2. Thanks for pointing this out. Maybe there's hope for me yet.
  3. It amazes me that people are able to find themselves in positions to represent artists, musicians, athletes, actors, actresses, etc. Someone does all the work and a rep slides in, does some negotiating, maybe some marketing, and gets to pocket a % of the earnings. I reached out to a rep via the contact address on their site once and was met with silence. I then tried reaching out to them via twitter/insta. Still silence. On a separate occasion, I reached out to a smaller creator directly about artwork and received a response within 24 hours. I dunno if the creators are so busy that they're out of the loop on how their reps deal with things, but it hasn't really endeared me to the original art aspect of the hobby. The creators seem to actually care about your appreciation for their work. The rep just feels like a cold middle man taking a cut on something I don't feel they deserve. Maybe I was unlucky and just had a bad first experience, but stories like OP's don't help my limited perception of the business.
  4. Thanks. I'll look into shipsaver. This all seems needlessly more complicated than it needs to be. Like how is your shipsaver account linked to your FedEx account? It just seems odd to pay the shipper and insurance separately. I wish you could set up a USPS account since they offer shipping and insurance together.
  5. I'm starting to get a little tired of the high cost of Registered Mail as well as the week long shipping times. So I signed up for a FedEx account this weekend, but I don't know how it works from here. I know I just put my account number on my CGC form, but once CGC is ready to ship my package, how does it work? Do I receive a notification and then fill out an online form? At which point do I get to select insured amounts? The FedEx site from what little browsing I've done doesn't seem particularly helpful which doesn't exactly inspire me with much hope.
  6. Is there room beneath for a small bookshelf (possibly two rows tall) for you to put your floppies/tpb's or whatever's in those short/long boxes under the table?
  7. Some books are easier to sell than others, especially if you cut the price just to unload them for cash. But comics as a whole are illiquid. I would be hard pressed to find someone before the day is done to buy up my entire collection without having to heavily discount and take a huge loss on it OR sell below market value. Investopedia
  8. That doesn't change any other part I said about DNM#2 and TT#12.
  9. I was merely using VintageComics examples. Based on the options given (comics, car, vacation, drugs), I just meant to point out that I felt expenditures on comics/vacations were more worthwhile when compared to luxury cars/drugs. I'm like you, I don't care nor do I judge how a person spends their money as long as it doesn't harm anyone. Drugs can clearly harm people and those around them. I mean I would absolutely buy a luxury car if I had expendable income and felt the money couldn't be better used elsewhere. Now, if you're living in poverty and you're spending money on comics, vacation, and cars? Then I'm definitely gonna judge you because you're placing your short term happiness over the financial well being of you and your family.
  10. Is this the panel from Dark Days: The Casting #1 you're referring to? Because that is 100% not a first appearance. Back in the day, this is what would have been referred to as a "Cameo in shadow". This isn't even a 1st full cameo. The 1st appearance is either Dark Nights Metal #2 or Teen Titans #12 and which you believe is dependent on your stance in 1st appearances in general. Those who believe a one panel appearance is a cameo believe Dark Nights Metal #2 to be the 1st full cameo and Teen Titans #12 to be the 1st full appearance. Those who believe a full panel appearance constitutes a 1st appearance (a la Incredible Hulk #180 and Amazing Spider-Man #299) believe Dark Nights Metal #2 to be the 1st appearance. Where it gets gray is the fact that the BWL's appears in full panel on the 2nd to last page and then his mouth appears as the final panel in Dark Nights Metal #2. Some believe the fact that he appears in some shape or form in more than one panel constitutes a 1st appearance. Scott Snyder himself has even said that Dark Nights Metal #2 is the 1st appearance. That should pretty much be the be all/end all since he's the writer, but somehow the argument endures.
  11. Which part is hypocritical? I'm just trying to say that there's a cost/benefit analysis that each person makes and that buying expensive comics and taking vacations both bring about positive emotions (usually) so they're not as different as VintageComics might think. Conversely, the benefit of a luxury car if you were to rate it and measure it in some sort of happiness gained/dollar spent metric must be very low when compared to other uses of your money. Same thing with drug habits in which the happiness gained must diminish over time while dollar spent increases (say legal/health bills).
  12. I agree. Both books came out on the same day but DNM #2 occurs first from a story perspective so it gets the tie breaker.
  13. 2 sets in your cart total. So you can order 1 premium signed, 1 premium unsigned. Or you could order 2 premium signed. Or 1 premium, 1 cover AB set. It does not mean 2 of each set.
  14. I'd argue that the value in traveling is intangible. There is much to be gained in the way of knowledge and experiences that can't be acquired by sitting at home. The question then becomes, what made you happier? The memories, knowledge, and experiences from a $3000 vacation? Or owning a book for the rest of your life (whether it is that book or a different book because you flipped for something better)? Each person will have a different answer. A luxury car (over an economy car) and dangerous addictions are definitely things that lose value. Though, you could argue the luxury car for commuter purposes brings you happiness in the same way as a vacation, but I think you'd be crazy to waste $50k+ to buy such little happiness. (NOTE: I have to establish I'm referring to luxury cars used on a daily basis to get to/from work which depreciate immediately coming off the lot. I am not referring to hobby/collector cars like a '67 Mustang or a Mercedes Benz 300SL "Gull wing".)
  15. I'm confused. Are you seeking to press the books before or after they're signed? You can have books signed and then sent to CCS prior to grading. Just check the CCS box on the CGC Signature Series paperwork.
  16. I secretly want some parent to go put a copy of Ghost Rider 15 in their child's bedroom tonight. Or better yet, leave it on the nightstand next to your wife.
  17. How quickly a piece sells out kinda depends on how popular it is. The ASM Ultra set which had all 8 books sold out in seconds. You could order the 2 sets separately (one for books ABCD, another for EFGH), but that cost a little more. When all was said and done full sets sold out quickly. I feel like there have been a handful of less popular releases that took a little longer to sell out. If you want an unsigned set, I would say that it's probably not going to be so casual that you could login a few hours later and expect a full unsigned set. (The unsigned set usually sells out first). And yes, shipping is extra but I have never been charged sales tax when purchasing through the online store (also a California resident).
  18. You mean it doesn't?! That's a clear missed opportunity by Marvel. Ghost Rider #15 is still one of my favorite covers of all time.
  19. I posed this question in the Appearances thread, but I figured there are more eyes here. I've been looking for Daniel Acuna and Ta-Nehisi Coates appearances for the remainder of the year but haven't been able to find any? Does anyone know of any appearances? NYCC seems to be the last big one of the year. Do these creators have a tendency to show up there? Thanks for the help.
  20. "Constipated" was exactly my first thought as well. And I didn't even notice the feet until you mentioned it, but yeah, that's pretty awful. I get that when you stretch your feet like that, the arch becomes a little more pronounced. But there's none of that. I have to wonder if it's an issue with the inker/colourist? The look makes a little more sense in cover ABC when you can imagine the foot is stretching the boot. But when the foot is exposed, there should be more of a gap where the arch should be. As much I like the playful MJ look in covers A/B, as well as the "me-ow" of cover C, considering I was reamed so hard on the SDCC covers, this is an easy pass for me.
  21. If this is the case, they should be on the shipper's case for not adhering to the signature/ID policy. Ridiculous to punish the customer for doing nothing wrong.

  23. Nope, I'm guessing you took those photos in the morning and I was there from 2-4. But I do remember the girl drawing your Spider-Man sign. I was walking out with my stack of books as you remarked to her "that even looks like Spider-Man." I'll be sure to say hello in November.
