  1. I thought CGC used timed Pym particles and shrunk down the slabs to fit in the box. And then upon delivery or being exposed to large enough quantities of air would expand to their normal size?
  2. How to window-bag your books for SS (with photos!) - The Signature Room - CGC Comic Book Collectors Chat Boards (cgccomics.com) EDIT: clicked on the link and the photos are no longer embedded in the post, but if you click on the individual jpegs, the sample photos are still there.
  3. I'd like to have a word with someone at USPS about their "chain of custody". I get it's more secure and I have yet to lose a package, but the pace at which registered mail moves through the system is ungodly slow.
  4. I've always understood it as "yes" that rate chart does include insurance. I thought you could ship via your own FedEx or UPS account and be able to declare an insured amount but unfortunately those options have never been available to me. I always use USPS Registered Mail for returning shipping. I hate it and wish there were other options available.
  5. Part of me wants to say that'll count as a comic size. Basically, whenever you see your tracking info says it's been delivered, add a month because CGC is extremely backed up right now. After that, it should finally appear under your submissions. From that point on, calculate how many business days (that means no weekends, no holidays). They're usually pretty close in my experience. Then add about another two weeks because USPS Registered Mail takes FOREVER.
  6. The book you're referencing sounds like the TPB (trade paperback) which is a collected edition. I'm not too sure if CGC will slab TPB's. I've read some instances where they have, but I've read other reports that they don't. Only way to find out is to call. As for SHOULD you get it graded, the thing I've realized over time is that I don't appreciate signed keys. Key books are expensive and hard enough to find as it is. I had a few keys signed and now all I want are unsigned copies of those books. But no one wants a signed $2 book either. Most importantly though, the actors had nothing to do in particular with a certain key book other than portraying them on the big screen. I personally think the best books to get signed by actors/actresses are the movie cover variants with their actual likeness on them. For example, it would make sense to me to have this particular cover signed by Chris Evans because his likeness is on it. Conversely, it'd be a little weird to have Sebastian Stan and Chris Evans sign this cover since they have nothing to do with the book. To each their own. It's an expensive hobby and I'm just bringing up costs/experiences that I've learned thus far in my journey. If you think you'd enjoy an actress sig on a normal book, far be it for me to dissuade you. Just consider both sides before you jump head long into something expensive.
  7. Pre-covid you could realistically fast track pressing and grading and get your book back in a month.
  8. I dunno if I should feel sorry for my postal worker or happy that he's getting so much overtime. Dude's been working 4 days straight apparently. Can't tell if he drove to my local facility or if they told him to crawl there.
  9. Skip the toploaders and just put them in Mylites/Fullback. Also, if you have a dedicated area for your collection, I personally recommend a book shelf.
  10. You'll get a Yellow-Green label. Label Description | CGC (cgccomics.com)
  11. I thought you had to solve a series of riddles and then prove your worthiness in front an ancient ghost, and only then will you own your holy grail?
  12. no price? take. I should probably EDIT this. that was a joke response since there's no listed price. my apologies.
  13. Calvin & Hobbes OA. Not even sure when was the last time a piece popped up for auction or what it ended up selling for.
  14. I don't think she's worried about the books being dirty. I think she's worried about the collector being dirty. I mean, have you seen how we're portrayed?
  15. Wife: "people will pay how much for that ragged piece of paper?!?" Galen130: "it's not a ragged piece of paper!! It's the first appearance of Spider-Man in a 4.0!!" Wife: "tomaytoe, tomahtoe. just make sure your toys and magazines are cleaned up in time for dinner."
  16. I don't understand the card market. Are there not grading companies that are more established or more trusted than others? If CGC stopped grading comics for 3 months, I don't think that many people would flock to the competitors, they'd just wait. CBCS would likely see an influx, especially of standard blue labels, but I don't think people would leave in droves. Yet with cards, there's this expectation that if you don't get graded by PSA, you just go to a competitor? And it seems like there are so many more card grading companies out there that I'm not even aware of. This whole influx of CGC cards is just perplexing to me.
  17. I really wish I weren't poor right now. Every book I have to take a split second and think "is that within my budget?" And then by the time I decide, it's already gone. I wish I had deep pockets here. :P
