  1. Have you tried reaching out to Ron Lim directly? The last time I saw him at a con, he had a portfolio with original art. It's worth asking to see what he might have available. I once reached out to this official fan page which sounds like it's managed by a handler or someone close to Ron. I would start there. Ron Lim Fan Page | Facebook
  2. The executives job is to literally make money for the shareholders. You do this by appeasing fans. If they don't get that, it's time to find new executives. God. I'm not DC fanboy (I primarily collect Marvel and have ever since I was a kid), but geez would I like to see talents like Cavill and Gadot given proper movies and worlds to play in.
  3. To be honest, if they want to go the Snyderverse route, whatever. It's not my cup of tea. I enjoyed Man of Steel except for the killing part. I enjoyed the first 2/3s of Wonder Woman (the final battle/defeat of Ares had my eyes rolling into the back of my head). I disagree with the casting for Flash, Aquaman, the entire Suicide Squad, etc. But mostly, I don't like the dark colors used in the films. I don't like the black Supeman suit. It was fan service, but it didn't even make sense in the context of things (same as the Endgame all women unite moment). I just don't think Snyder really gets these characters. Not in the same way a Favreau understands Iron Man or the way Feige seems to understand Marvel. Apparently AT&T understands even less. I'm not sure how much of a insufficiently_thoughtful_person you have to be to be sitting on a cash cow and letting it rot.
  4. Sigh...yes, they absolutely should add a new status or just bring back the "Verified" status. "Received" should mean, we have your package. "Verified" should mean, we've entered/acknowledge your order in the system.
  5. Yeah, definitely the reason why I haven't bought these yet. It ultimately comes down to "do I want to spent $150 on frames, or do I want to put that towards a key book that I want?" Thus far, saving towards a key has always come out on top. Generally speaking, these are UV protected so that's also a reason why the costs are a little higher.
  6. Funds are tight at the moment, but I've settled on these for when I decide to eventually hang some slabs. Amazon.com: ECC FRAMES Economy Graded Comic Book Frame (CGC/CBCS with UV Resistant Acrylic): Home & Kitchen Amazon.com: Collectible Grading Authority Comic Book Display Case & Stand for CGC Graded Comics: Home & Kitchen (there are two versions of this. The link is for the stand, but there is a separate one that can be hung.) Triple Comic Book Frame with Classic Moulding | Perfect Cases, Inc. (I was only specifically looking at hanging 3 books, but there are other frames for hanging 2 or 4 books.) But, if I'm honest, this seems to be the most contemporary looking case and is probably what I am leaning towards: UV-FLEX Display Case | CGC/CBCS/PGX Slab Frame | UV-Protected Acrylic (crafticomics.com)
  7. Thanks for that tidbit. If that's the case, it's just hard to believe that the edited Whedon version is the way they chose to go 4 years ago.
  8. Finally finished Zack Snyder's cut of Justice League. Yes, it's a better film, but it kinda had to be right? How could you not take the wide spread criticism of the original and not use that to improve the original product? Flash, Cyborg, and Steppenwolf are more fully fleshed out. Ray Fisher's acting is much improved. And the CG throughout the film is leagues (pun intended?) ahead of what was originally shown in theaters. The story overall just flows better, but maybe that's because it has 4 hours to tell a story. I always said that DC should take its time building its own universe and instead the original universe was essentially crammed into one film. I think the 4 hour cut is proof positive that taking time to build characters and story are essential to a franchise. That all said, the same flaws are still prevalent. I still think Flash is immature. The CG, for all its improvements, is still worst than what Disney/Marvel puts to screen. Snyder's continued choice of a dark color palette doesn't feel grounded. A particular element to Superman feels like fan service but is really an injustice (two puns? is that allowed) to the character. Whoever was in charge of the music needs to find a new job because they're not suited for this line of work. Certain scenes just ran long and could have probably been cut. Overall, the movie has more heart, which is a far cry from what audiences were originally left with. I still believe Snyder isn't cut out to lead in the creation of this universe. I think there's enough interest to allow for him to helm a sequel, though I don't have much faith in his ability to craft a good story the first time around.
  9. It's remarkable to me that he treated you like you were some lawyer he had on retainer. I mean, it shouldn't surprise me, but it did. Just another example of entitled behavior on his part.
  10. Yeah I get that. I haven't voted yet, but when I do, it's going to be a summation of what I've read in this thread and others. Some might only account for the events that happened on the board, whereas myself will take into account the character evidence from outside events such as his Instagram posts and the unnecessary/psychotic calls to business/family members. I'll wait for Dylan to respond after his ban, but based on his history, I can't see myself not voting yes to this.
  11. So I initially saw a cabinet at IKEA that I thought I could use as the base for a design, but it turned out the interior dimensions were too narrow for a CGC case. I then went to a custom cabinetry store here to get an estimate and was told $200-$300 with a 6-8 week lead time due to busy schedules. I would go to Home Depot and buy the lumber myself, but I don't have a table saw. CGC slabs (modern/silver age) have a rough dimension size of 8 1/4" W x 13" H x 5/8" D. I figured the cabinet would have an interior dimensional width of 8 1/2" with a depth of 14". Grooves would be carved on the inside walls in 1" intervals with 1/4" dividers to support the slabs. Height could then be determined based on how many books you have, however it's become apparent to me that a wider base would be necessary to eliminate any issues of it toppling over. Thus a doublewide display with a 1" board up the middle would probably work better. You can then have two UV acrylic windows to keep out UV light. My only question is, what affect does wood have on books? Does the cabinet need to be treated in any special way? We put our books in mylar to prevent off gassing. Is there any such concern with the type of medium in which books are stored in? (EDIT: the other thing I've tried to reconcile is that when displaying books in a media tower like this, if you store the books cover up, then the top of label will appear upside down (not a problem if all you have are 9.6's ). If you store them with the label right side up, then all the covers will be facing down and you'll have to pull out the whole book to see it. I suppose the kicker to it all is that the way the labels are designed, it's clear CGC intends for its customers to display them standing up as with any other comic. Lastly, if you are going to store your books flat, then it would seem this is still the prettiest solution (albeit, expensive).)
  12. You never did anything wrong YET. If you number starts popping up in bathroom stalls with "For a good time call...", it wasn't me. This might have been addressed somewhere in the myriad of pages that have arisen since this was posted, but for me, the interfering with someone's business comes from the slander posted on Instagram. That's 3000 followers who may never do business with Polonsky based on unfounded claims.
  13. Me: 32pages?! This must be another old thread. <looks at original post date> Me: Holy cannoli!! Friday?!?! Pretty sure reading this whole thread is going to take up the rest of my evening...
  14. I think he was referring to something with Dylan, not this thread.
  15. I've been to the Times Square location and their selection isn't all that surprising. Given where it's located, I'm guessing it caters to the occasional tourist who pops in for a look. As such there's a ton of non-comic collectibles in there, plus probably fewer keys than we'd hope for. I feel like Midtown used to be good for filling holes in collections, but not so much anymore. Back when Action Comics #1000 came out, they had the variant cover by Jim Lee. It was touted as the "Touring Variant", I think because Jim was supposed to go for a signing. Anyways, the book drops and retails for $80. Sells out almost instantly. After market price shoots up to $160. Two days after release, Midtown suddenly has "additional stock" which they list at...$160. That sells out as well. A few days later yet again, they magically find more stock which they list at $120. I did end up buying a book at $120, but the entire situation left a sour taste in my mouth. A) that books were held back and B) that they were listed at market and not MSRP. In my mind, if you are the primary vendor of a good, you should be selling them at the listed retail price, especially during the first week of release. That'd be like a comic shop getting a book Tuesday night and realizing one of the books has a 1st appearance so they put one copy on the rack and put the other 25 on eBay at 10x cover. I've sworn off Midtown since.
  16. The more I stare at those FF covers, the more I realize how absolutely brilliant they are in their ability to tell the story inside. The mystery of 48, the penultimate battle of 49, and then the redemption of 50.
  17. Spent a lot over the weekend. Finally completed the Silver Surfer trilogy with a copy of #50. I keep my slabs tucked away in a box, but these three covers look so pretty together, I might have to get a UV protected frame and hang them on the wall. Also completed the Wolverine trilogy by finding 181 and 182 from the same dealer in exactly the grade I wanted. Looks like I'll be eating nothing but Top Ramen for the foreseeable future.
  18. Growing up looking at Marvel's trading cards and learning all the key first appearances, I never imagined I'd one day have the chance to own this book. The OCD part of me is happy to have all three in the same grade.
  19. Maybe it's just me, but it feels like it's gotten much worst ever since the introduction of the card grading service. I've mentioned it in several threads, they really need to just put a pinned post in the newbie thread or wherever because the question pops up on the daily. But then again, there is a banner at the top of the CGC home page so people aren't going to read it no matter where it's pinned. Everyone just wants the answers spoon fed to them that they've lost the ability to research on their own. The best solution to me is that "Received" should indeed mean received. "Verified" should mean booked in the system. As it stands now, I have no idea what the "Verified" status even means.
  20. I didn't know this until today. It's not like I'm clicking on every new post in these subs. If you don't frequent a certain part of the boards, then it's likely to never come up.
  21. I was going to make a remark about delivery times, but then I remembered this is an international package since you're in Canada.
  22. @BuscemasAvengers Has this been squared away?
