  1. I'm so confused as to what these are. It sounds like they're reprints as they have different UPC's from what you find in the shop? Yet all these books seem to be identical in that even the cover art is the same. To the uneducated like myself, I would almost see this as an easy way for Marvel to re-package any excess inventory they have just to get some money out of it. (Yet, apparently this isn't the case?)
  2. So any updates on these books? I still believe they must be "lost" at the CGC facilities somewhere and will eventually turn up in the system. It's just unfortunate that an administrative error of this extent has occurred.
  3. I'm confused why Galactus is the focus point. I feel like the value is based on Silver Surfer more so than Galactus. Villains don't get big bumps in general (look at Iron Man #55). That said, I wholeheartedly agree that the top books of each era will transcend and have more value than other keys from earlier eras. Incredible Hulk 181 is easily the top Bronze Age book (as far as I'm aware) and its value surpasses many a number of Silver Age keys. I admit I've always been biased since Silver Surfer is my favorite character. But I feel like it was a wildly popular character in the late 60's and 70s. Conversely, I've always been a bit tepid on the Punisher. He (and his logo) are certainly pop culture icons which add value. It's just as a kid, I knew the importance of FF48 long before I knew the importance of ASM129. As far as flexibility, Punisher titles have never been popular. I suppose it's difficult when your protagonist is known to outright kill his enemies. We've had 2? 3? movies and a TV show so how much more of a bump can be expected from movies/TV? To me it comes down to long term story telling and neither have had a consistent title which is why I allow my bias to impact my opinion.
  4. Yeah, but what book has more long term value? A Silver Age key or a Bronze Age key?
  5. 1) various aspects of the body seem out of proportion. 2) it not the OG animated Harley (the best looking Harley of them all)
  6. Hopefully the thieves give the books back and cooperate in the hopes of a lighter sentence.
  7. I picked up some books to fill some holes in my UXM and ASM runs. Also picked up these 2 keys this last weekend at Berkeley Comic Con.
  8. Way back in the 90's when Marvel launched the Heroes Reborn imprint, Jim Lee came out to my LCS for a signing event. I remember waiting an hour in line for Jim to arrive. It was the first signature I ever got on a book in a time before I knew what CGC was. (Heck, I'm guessing there was no such thing as Signature Series back then). Better yet, it was a time when signatures were free and you could stand around and actually had time to talk with the creators without the pressure of a massive line behind you. It's the only time I've seen Jim in person, but one day I hope to make it to a con to express how 20+ years later, he's still my favorite artist. Second best day would probably be the day my FF48 arrived in the mail. Silver Surfer was and is my favorite character so getting that book was always a childhood dream. And not a story about collecting, but 2 years ago I attended D23. This was just a few days after Joan Lee had passed away so Stan would have been forgiven for canceling his appearance. But he was there to accept his Disney Legends award and to thank the fans and to express how they energized him and brought him joy. And he was there the next day as well when he and Mark Hamill were guests of honor on the parade that went through the convention floor. It's the only time I ever saw Stan in person and it's a moment I'll never forget.
  9. Fingers crossed this is the case. signed, - interested buyer
  10. I love that Superman/Batman #26 issue and how all the creators collaborated on it for Sam. I didn't realize there was a variant with just Robin.
  11. Small sample size, but none of my friends/relatives kids collect sports cards. And there's no denying the market for sports cards has shrunk drastically since the 90s. I don't count Magic, Pokemon, and other CCG's as part of the sports card market. Comic sales figures have grown in large part due to the increasing cost of books. Unit sales meanwhile have been largely "stable" over the last 20 years. https://www.comichron.com/yearlycomicssales.html
  12. They're called Newton Rings and there's an entire thread on the subject.
  13. Yeah, the uproar from Disneyland fans was huge when they announced the closure of our Tower of Terror in favor of a Guardians ride. Disney purists were so upset because ToT was one of the most popular rides at California Adventure and they were upset that it was being replaced by what they deemed a "non-Disney IP" (ironic considering Twilight Zone isn't Disney either). But I certainly miss the story, the theming, and how the cast members would play the part of creepy hotel staff perfectly. Most fans I've spoken with have come around and it's almost universally agreed that the mechanics of the Guardians ride is better than what we had before, and that the ride itself is more thrilling than before. In other words, we've all reluctantly come to like the guardians ride.
  14. I don't follow the updates at WDW nearly as closely as I do the ones at Disneyland (my "home" park). But I do faintly recall hearing about these updates. WDW isn't necesarily behind on this. They're getting a completely brand new ride from the ground up whereas Disneyland merely got a re-themed attraction which took all of a few months to re-do. However, once Marvel Land starts to get built up, I'm guessing the new Iron Man attraction will be a roller coaster with a launch similar to what we're seeing in these Guardians photos. (but this is side tracking from the original topic of this thread. :P)
  15. Honestly, Henry Cavill (and Gal Gadot) is a blessing to the DC Universe. If not for the poor writing he's been saddled with, I believe he could be the best Clark Kent/Superman. What ever happened with his contract discussions? DC/Warner Bros would be absolute fools to let him go without at least another 2-3 movies (2 Superman movies + 1 JL/Trinity movie).
  16. What? No celeb reaction video from the actual ride? I wanna see which of the four freaked out the most. Also, GotG: Mission Breakout opened in May 2018 and replaced the Hollywood Tower of Terror at Disneyland's California Adventure. Disney World still has their Tower of Terror and there are no plans at this time to convert it to a Marvel themed attraction.
  17. As a big Disney fan, no new ride was mentioned. The celeb appearances were aligned with the announcement of the $5M charitable donation. (And yes, likely to promote the movie as well.) More details on the Marvel Land will likely occur at the D23 Parks Panel in August. In all honesty, it's sweet to see our heroes hanging with the kids. And whether it was planned with some ulterior financial motive or not, there's no denying the joy it must have brought those kids to hang out with celebs that play superheroes on screen. Honestly, besides Gal and Jason Mamoa, I don't see the same level of interaction from DC stars (Ben, Henry, etc). Sarah Haley Finn did a great job casting characters on the big screen and personalities off screen.
  18. Ooph, that packaging makes me cringe.
  19. Maybe this with a mat? https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40295665/
  20. I think it's also fair to point out that the hobby of collecting sports cards amongst children isn't what it was 20-30 years ago. When I was a kid, I would get baseball and football cards (this was all before I was introduced to comics). Kids these days aren't interested in sports cards. But (as you pointed out), they are aware of superheroes because of movies/tv shows. And as a result of that, demand for key books will continue to remain high as new buyers (and new money) enters the marketplace. I take myself as an example as I am currently starting to seriously consider buying IH181 myself.
  21. I've found the posted TAT to be largely accurate. You have to bear in mind that these are business days. So they exclude weekends and holidays. If you're pressing a book, don't expect to get your books back for a long time. For example, I sent in 9 moderns to be pressed after SDCC last year and I didn't receive them until just before Christmas. https://www.cgccomics.com/submit/services-fees/cgc/
  22. Yeah, I'm surprised by the expediency as well.
  23. Does that mean CGC admitted they couldn't find the books. That's unfortunate. I imagine they'll pop up eventually, but that won't save you from the stress that has already occurred.
  24. It's been 16 days. You're very lenient about rounding up. The point is that the initial subject heading is over dramatic clickbait. I'm on OP's side on everything else and do hope CGC enters it into the system and he can breath a sigh of relief. But at the same time, I would hope that he learns from this and that his future subject heads are less sensationalist. Literally, if he just changed the subject, we'd all be here singing "Kumbaya" holding hands and praying for a happy ending.
