  1. No way. If this were a boxing match, you'd BOTH have heads that looked like a sack of bloody meat. Sweet books! Just plain old jaw-droppers, and stuff you just don't see! You help me back up just so tth2 can knock me back down. Some friend you are! tth2 that's an extraordinarily attractive copy. do your feet touch the ground?
  2. A number of collections came on the market post mid-80s. You gave up too soon! (Although there still aren't enough to go around.)
  3. WOW! tth2 I don't think those were the big guns and you're still killing me. I feel like the black knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I keep coming back for more punishment.
  4. who stopped this thread? and why? where are the l.b. cole faithful?
  5. The coloring on that zombie's face is just fantastic! Nice book. The face is mixture of aquas that are heavy on the green, to heavy on the blue. lovely is best the word to describe it. i'm glad you noticed it as i really wanted to see if i could correct the colors to make them more like the book (which is way prettier) but they are just too subtle to be picked up. darn.
  6. found this lurking in a corner, whimpering like a frightened kitten.
  7. $130 bucks for a VF Beth. horror book. i don't understand when i hear people tell me that cgc has made the hobby too expensive. i think you got a cool book at a cheap price.
  8. Thanks. I've been reading old posts and noticed that you had purchased the Dennis ebay lot. I tracked that lot but had other priorities at the time. those are wonderful books. post more when you get a chance.
  9. Ace wears a mask to prevent other dogs from knowing who he is, natch! (They really do include that in the stories!) He was often shown on the cover and included in stories for a couple years. Probably an attempt imitate the success of Krypto. Love the thought of Supe stuffing the key under the mat!
  10. scan 4 -- the scanner can't really capture the colors on this one.
  11. scan 3 -- WM copy with terrifc art by Kubert
  12. scan 2 -- to forestall any questions, the upper right staple is not rusty -- just the shadow from scanning.
  13. WOW tth! I think the expression is throw down the gauntlet, not the sword, your armor, and the horse! I hope you aren't disappointed with the selections
  14. shhhh! don't tell anyone about their humor titles! or sekowsky! or wolverton! better yet, don't say anything at all!
  15. ST 97 I must admit that I would never have owned these but for the encouragement and assistance of a couple fellow collectors. This image is not quite as good as my other scans as I didn't take the book out of the mylar.
  16. I do occasionally take the books out for my own viewing and for guests. It's always amazing to me when you have the privelege of seeing the best copies in all their glory. As pretty as they look in the mylar, they look so more stunning out of it. Nor can the scans do them justice -- there are colors on the book that just don't come out right. (My brother the photographs that I have of a number of my books as opposed to scans. Next to the real thing, I'm partial to scans.) Mylar has a grayish-yellow cast to it, so it is especially deadly to books where red and orange predominate. On a number of occasions I've first shown a person a book nested in a couple mylars, getting a ho-hum response. Upon taking it out, it's always fun to see their reaction. I cannot tell you how many times I've gasped when a fellow collector, going above and beyond the call of duty, takes a Mile High, San Franciscos, or Allentowns out of the mylar. Comics are too cool to be caged -- they were meant to roam free! A couple more scans to follow.
