  1. Great story and info. Guys who are promoting creator owned series are always down to earth and personable moreso than your big 2 big page rate or contract guys. IMO, they deserve my money moreso than the big 2 guys anyway.

I got my copy of the trade this week. Now my singles can get a rest.

  2. Interesting, I've been waiting to see how these would do on ebay. I think they would need a 10 day auction with lots of hype and a thorough explanation in order to sell well, with more description about how very rare they are and hard to find, etc.

I can't predict if they will go high or low, anyone else want to try?

Low, unless the guys from this board bid them up and fight for them. :baiting:

I doubt many others care about the foreign editions other than the people who've hyped them and bought into the hype here.

  3. Awesome, Image heavy week for me. This is the type of week where I'm excited about all the books.

    JUL090388 ASTOUNDING WOLF-MAN #20 $2.99

    SEP090322 CHEW #6 (MR) $2.99

    SEP090330 FOUR EYES #4 (RES) $3.50

    SEP090332 INVINCIBLE #68 $2.99

    SEP090402 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #612 $3.99

AUG090764 RASL STARTER PACK #1-5 WITH TATTOOS (MR) $14.00

Anyone have more info on this? Sounds neat. I have 1-5. Is 6 out yet?

  4. Cool. Sounds like you like the book, but also like to over-analyze it.

I can see most of what you are saying, particularly about Rick not realizing who he is talking to, but at the end of the day, it's just a comic to me. If it entertains, I'm good and I'm not going to kill something by looking for flaws.

Also, he hasn't killed off any of those undeveloped characters yet. I may be talking out of my , but it seems like he only kills off characters after they are well developed. Or if there are just too many characters (the twin girls) or they look alike (Andrea's sister).

I also can't really say that I have the urge to re-read 49+ over and over. I've read 1-48 probably 5 or 6 times and 49 on maybe twice. I'm not really sure why, but it's not because I don't enjoy it as much.

  5. i agree that this would work as a finite series better. I also feel that it can't be a roller coaster 24/7 but I just feel that he is losing control of the story a litle. For example, I cared about all the characters before. however, the development of these newer characters like Morgan, Abe, etc aren't as interesting and haven't been developed as much. If they died,

i wouldn't care as much as when Lori or Tyrese died. I hate to be nitpicking (and i know i am) but I am just getting a little disappointed. and I am hoping the story doesn't spiral out of control.

    SPOILERS

From these comments, I think you are still jumping the gun because you started with the trades. Remember that Tyrese and Lori died 46 and 48 issues into the run, respectively. That's plenty of time to build them up.

On the other hand, Abe, Rosita, Eugene have been in the group for way less than 20 issues. Give it time. The series still feels just like it did before the prison arc. I think we'll learn more about the characters in Washington.

  6. The first 48 issues were some of the best in comics I ever read. the last 20 or so have been avearge IMO. I was really interested in Rick and his phone conversations but that was about it. Everything from Maggie hanging and the Hunters (and the phone) didn't live up to it's potential.

How long have you been reading this book in single issues? If you caught up in trades and switched over to singles within the last 2 years or so, I can understand what you are saying. However, this is the way the series has always gone.

I enjoyed this issue. A lot actually happened. I loved Kirkman's solicit too. Always so clever.

  7. On another WD note - did everyone see how much the cgc'd #50 variant cover just went for on ebay? It was a 9.8, WD #50 variant - closed close to $190.00 :o

I was surprised to see it go so high! I have a 9.6 and was thinking of bidding just b/c I'm a freak and want the 9.8 - but it went WAY beyond what I expected.

Yeah, honestly, I thought it might slip by for $75 or so.

I have a few raw copies that I'm probably going to sell. Right now, they seem to only go for $25, but maybe this sale will help. Supposedly, Larsen is going to do a story based on the characters on that cover as a back-up in #75. That can only help the value of that variant, which I think is still a great deal at $25 for the only TWD single issue variant.

  8. The only problem I have is when publishers release TPBs that cost the same or more than the individual issues' cover prices. Like those TPBs that reprint, say, 6 issues for $19.99, when the full cover price of the individual issues are only $18 combined. :preach:

    I'm a curmudgeon about it, I suppose. :P

I agree, but Image is usually pretty good about making the trades cheaper than the regular issues.

If the next Chew arc is 6 issues, then yeah, it's probably going to be $14.99 which is cheaper than the issues would be. If it's another 5 issue arc, I wouldn't be surprised if the trade was $12.99 which would be cheaper than issues.

From my experience, Image is fair that way (for the most part). Now Dark Horse, it seems like they usually price the trades higher than the regular issues. I don't get it.

  9. I'm sorry - I read it and thought it was stupid. Just over the top stupid.

I thought the whole chicken being outlawed thing was over the top. But then I remembered that this is a comic book we are talking about here. What isn't over the top and unbelievable..... especially if you read super hero stuff? This book is just over the top in a different way.

  10. Also Chew 2nd print was a lower run. So expect it to go even higher than issue 1.

    Not a chance.

They're doing a third print of Chew #1 - if that sells out, they'll do a fourth (and a fifth, etc). It's no different than the ASM #583 Obama variant. The #1 1st print is the only one that's going to retain any sort of value.

And the jury's still out on that one - like someone else said, it could be the next Walking Dead, yeah, but it could just as easily be this year's Locke & Key.

I think that this book being the next Fell is more likely than the next The Walking Dead. Fell went into at least 4 printings on issue 1 and extra printings for the first several issues. They were going for good money a while ago, but I was able to pick up a full run of 1st prints on ebay for $15 shipped not long ago.

Never heard of Fell. Who was the pubisher?

    Really?

    Image comics.

It's a good series. Only 9 issues out and all issues are self contained stories from Warren Ellis and Ben Templesmith. They were all 16 story page comics for $1.99 cover. Check them out.

  11. Also Chew 2nd print was a lower run. So expect it to go even higher than issue 1.

  12. The logo is green instead of red. Not sure if you should make a trip just for that book though. The shops may not have ordered it and if they did order it, they may not receive any copies as apparently, it sold out and it sounds like not enough were made to cover orders.

  13.

Plus I got another copy of #1 First print!!!

Where did you find it? I thought I covered all the shops around Tampa.

Village Comics Club in Brandon. Got a solid 9.8 for $20 from the Owner :)

Sweet! He has been nice the times I've gone by there.

  14. also anybody notice the bad quality of paper Chew #2 was printed on? I coud find no 9.8's of this anywhere

Yes. It looks like the paper that Kirkman printed TWD and Invincible on for a few issues as an experiment. I don't care for that paper. I picked up 4 copies. 3 of them have color rub on the back cover.
