  1. Here are most of the ones from that list that I have (and are handy). Sup 12 is a newstand and labeled 'MULTI-PACK REPRINT EDITION COPY RIGHT 1989 DC COMICS, INC.' in the incedecia with the issue date being 1987. The rest of what I'm showing here is just stamped '2nd Print' If memory serves Sup 2 & 3 have a '50 Years' logo in the UPC box, where the 1st print is something else. Personally the biggest shock on this list to me is the Superboy's. One trick I'm willing to share is that you can sometimes check the color variations on the edge of the spine on most of these if they are bagged/boarded or just a cover shot on ebay. That doesn't work with the 'Dark Knight over Metropolis' issues though.
  2. Comicbookrealm is claiming that it's a 1978 reprint. Bear in mind that they are not always accurate.
  3. I'm all for bringing new people in, great to hear that DC is at least trying things out. When out doing general grocery shopping all I ever see are Archie Digests. Might be time for a return of the digest format. The smaller size may convince more retailers to give it a shot. Both Marvel and DC certainly have a collection of stories to cherry pick from to attract new readers.
  4. That is VERY interesting. I'm sorry if I was mis-understood. I wasn't saying that either Action 683 3rd or Adv 499 2nd exist. Just that they'll always be on my want list (an actual 4x6 notebook as I find apps too slow). Similar to the above image there is a DC produced cover image of Action 683 3rd on the back of a collectors set or TPB that I'm having trouble finding right now. For a close up of said image just go to comicbookrealm which even claims 4 owners. Anyone know of another example outside of this storyline when a publisher used higher printing cover images like this? It's just weird.
  5. Just did a fine-tooth comb check, MOS 17 is listed twice. If you want to add the "Reign" issues Sup 82 has 2 and GL 46 has 2. Sup 82 can be tough, I've found two in the wild. Also, I remember that there is an image of Action 683 3rd, I think on the back of a box type multi-pack, or maybe a TPB back cover. I'm striking out finding an image of that set though. I've yet to see the issue, or hear of someone having it. I suspect it'll be a permanent addition to my want list, along with AOS 499 2nd.
  6. Speaking of MOS #20 2nd I just got this in the mail last night. I should not have won the auction with what I bid, but that does happen from time to time. Technically my 2nd copy, it's actually in amazing condition, just a couple of minor spine ticks, only one color breaking (and barely at that).
  7. As shown on the first page Superman 75 has UPC's for all the printings too. My experience is that the 1st and 4th are common. The 3rd is tricky. There are sticker UPC's for the 2nd and 4th, which are very tricky (and disputable if they belong to the set). The stickers are over the direct sales text.
  8. Weird it almost looks like it's covering up the printed barcode. My first guess would have been 3rd party multi-pack. Congrats on the find!!!
  9. I was tough letting that go... I know it has a good home with someone who will appreciate it. That is a CRAZY set. Congratulations!!!
  10. Thanks to Cpt Kirk for the trade, a couple of books involved. Unfortunately one glaring omission, but an easy one, I'll either have it, or have it on the way within the week. Being a Superman collector of this era means getting lots of duplicates of #75 in bulk auctions, I just never made it a priority figuring it would come in with something else. I don't think I ever noticed the back covers before. The stickers on the 2nd and 4th print are different, the 'EN' is in a different place and 2nd print is 1/8" longer. Wish I had more to add on origins, this is making for interesting reading.
  11. That IS some great info!!! I remember seeing stickers at Waldenbooks of the era, particularly LODK. I wasn't anywhere near any other chain bookstores, so can't chime in there. Those stickers have been on there a LONG time, the adhesive is just starting to bleed though on the one I kept, and I'm good with it!!! I seen pictures of stickered DCU's, but there are people far more in the know on those than me. Just checked my ebay account, those two Sup 75's were actually 2 months apart. Both from small name, but bigger volume sellers (>1000 comic book listings). There were two states and roughly 600 miles between them. I did ask after the first sale if he had any info, and he just said they were part of a collection that came in. Pretty much the answer I expected, but I did feel the need to ask.
  12. FlyingDonut, thanks for the link. I wish I had funds to get slabs!!!! My copy of the platinum is one of the few slabs I own (9.2). If it wasn't FCBC next weekend I would've just snagged a raw off ebay, probably still will. Can't pass up the thrill of hunting in person during a sale though. Carl Elvis, D'oh!!! it figures the one week everything is upside down and I didn't scour ebay. I have no regrets with the deal I made to get it, quite happy actually, looks like I'm not the only one who was chasing it. Apologies if I influenced the price with this post, I was neither bidder nor seller. Thanks Cpt Kirk, I'm humbled that out of all the pro's looking for 25 years, that I'm the one who found those. Still remember walking to the LCS from High School and getting there right as they set them out. No mark up or limit, I got 6 of the bagged ones, still have them. Have to dig them up for a photo opp soon.
  13. Hello all I have been hunting all of the direct and newstands of Superman 75 for a while now. I finally have the elusive 2nd print with a UPC sticker inbound from someone who has very good rep (and will probably chime in). While wading through many many ebay auctions I made a discovery, a 4th print with a UPC sticker. Then about a month later while still scratching my head on how I was going to verify it, another one popped up. I'll be the first to admit that it doesn't really make much sense that it exists, the regular 4th print UPC is actually kind of common. Anyone else found any of these? Any information on why they would do a UPC sticker on something like this? Everything I can think of is pure speculation revolving around unexpected demand from the newstand market. FYI my duplicate is spoken for and just shipped out today. I'll get a set-shot together when the 2nd print gets in, of the original releases I'm now only missing the 1st print newstand (that's just me focusing on the HTF's).
