  1. I think Peter Parker is still a minor even though he's off by five years so I think it's impossible for him to do taxes and go to adult jail for that or even juvie.
  2. You haven't even seen the movie so how would you know? First of all, these characters are (spoiler alert!) thousands and thousands of years old. How much more growing do they need to do? But yes, they do grow in the present day story. But more important is to see where they have come from as it is these experiences that guide their actions in the present day and ultimately shape the outcome of the movie. That is why the structure of the film revolves around the flashback scenes. Yes, according to film writing dogma, the flashback is the big no-no for people who stick to the rulebooks like it's a sports game or something. I can hear all the critics in the theaters blowing their referee foul whistles every time Eternals went back to the past again. But for a movie that takes place in the present day, there is no other way to tell the story of beings who have been around since the dawn of humans. Just ask Highlander.
  3. I guess the 4-6 members who posted here that they saw it and liked it must be confused over whether we like the movie or not then since Cinemascore tells us a B is garbage or maybe we all must like garbage.
  4. The divide between the now infamous Eternals RT score and general audience reception is itself becoming a news story...
  5. And I believe of the 4-6 board members here who posted that they saw it, all at least generally liked the movie. So that's like a 100% CGC Boards French Tomahto Cinemascare so far.
  6. Even with Iron Man's success, if Thor doesn't work, it's possible the MCU doesn't work. But Thor worked and the rest is history. In this context, Thor is underrated as one of the most important comic book movies ever.
  7. I loved Eternals, and the weekend high had it as my favorite MCU as it does what no other MCU film has done prior and, for me, does it masterfully. However, I ultimately can't put it above my personal fav Captain Marvel, and the execution of Endgame was just kinda flawless. So Eternals is #3 on my MCU favorite list.
  8. A quick survey of social media seems to confirm that the fan favorite Eternal is Makkari.
  9. You mean the stank RT critics score. The WOM is just fine. Audiences like the movie. It's a good film.
  10. Screw this Jack Yonover troll loser. He seems to be a MCU hater troll. Screw MCU hater trolls. Also I think the tweets were from a tweet Campea tweeted proclaiming that Makkari runs circles around Flash and Quicksilver or something.
  11. Regarding Chloe Zhao's statement that she was inspired in part by Man of Steel in the making of Eternals, yes, I saw it in the movie and could see it even without her statement. It was quite obvious to me. The way Ikaris moved in action and the way he carried himself, it seemed Zhao showed action clips of Henry Cavill to Richard Madden and said "kind of like this." For sure, the Eternals seemed like a Bizarro Superfriends, though a Bizarro Watchmen might be a more apt description. A major battle towards the end of the film seemed to use very similar choreography, effects, and camera work from Superman's battle with Zod and his crew in Man of Steel. There is even a seemingly direct visual referential nod to a Zack Snyder DC movie regarding Ikaris that I'm 100% sure is not a coincidence. People who have seen the movie might know what I'm talking about.
  12. Some audience comments about Eternals from the last half-hour on Marvel's YouTube page: Eternals seems to be almost universally loved (or liked) by the fans. Take that, half of the critics!
  13. Look, Zack Snyder makes nice enough movies, but I don't think he understands how to use metaphor properly in a film. I guess Man of Steel wanted to be about "Hope" but it really wasn't. It was a glossy action film. Watchmen could have have nailed the higher themes that are part of the source material DNA's but instead we got a dumbed down glossy action film with a cool soundtrack.
  14. Or maybe I've tried to help you understand but you have Disney conspiracy lenses permanently affixed to your optics.
  15. When WB greenlit a new Superman movie ten years ago, they didn't say "oh if it doesn't make a billion like Avengers, Iron Man 3, or the last two Dark Knight movies just did, that's perfectly fine, we're just starting out with this thing and it's just Superman, we have lots of other characters." No, WB wanted Man of Steel to be a massive hit. And I'm sorry, but to say that Man of Steel was a massive runaway hit or that WB wasn't the least bit disappointed with it is erroneous.
  16. disclaimer: When I say "high concept" above, I don't mean the industry term meaning movies that can be explained and pitched in one sentence like Jingle All the Way. I mean a more personal definition of the term that deals with higher themes and metaphors, like 2001 a Space Odyssey.
  17. To reiterate a previous post, what makes Eternals so different from other MCU films and a big reason I love the movie so much, is that I believe it's the first MCU movie to feature a higher universal theme at its core. It's kind of the first true high concept MCU film. There have been other high concept comic book films in the past. 1989 Batman was a metaphor for duality. Bryan Singer's X-Men was a metaphor for homosexuality and its acceptance in society. Ang Lee's Hulk was a metaphor for the freedom from repression. Batman Begins had at its core the concept of fear. Though Black Panther touched on higher concepts like racism and leadership, it wasn't really engrained into the movie's theme itself. In the end, it was still a movie about a hero overcoming the odds. As awesome as the MCU movies have been, they are still just adventure movies that exist for the hero's story and do not concern themselves with higher concepts. This was a problem for me in the beginning of the MCU but I grew to accept that for what it was. I can't say I didn't miss that from the MCU as I think that comic book movies are the perfect place for high concept metaphors. Eternals is the first MCU film to do that. It had the universal themes of humanity, human bonds, and love at its core. This is what makes Eternals so different from other MCU films.
  18. Chloe Zhao already has one of those. In the end, I think she wanted to make Eternals because she wanted to make comic book movie. With all the backlash by a few loud angry filmmakers and actors against the dominion of comic book films in the last couple years, in turn creating a larger public debate about them, I'm not sure we will ever see a comic book movie nominated for Best Picture ever again. Joker will probably be the last time.
  19. Eh, I don't really. That's in your head. I'm somehow Mr. Anti-DC in your world. That's fine. I do believe I brought up the Man of Steel low RT score in the past to show that combined with its relatively lower box office take (compared to the billions comic book movies were making around that time), it made the film a minor disappointment in the eyes of many, including the studio. Yes, MOS was a minor disappointment, but not big enough to not greenlight a sequel featuring Batman. And yes, Man of Steel didn't sit well with a lot of people, to the point that Zack Snyder had to defend the movie at times, like the fact that his SUperman was a darker version of the character. Now, if Man of Steel had broken a billion dollars and got a very high positive fan response (it sits now at 75%), the RT score wouldn't have mattered as much. But it didn't do those things, so the RT score compounded that disappointment. This example even shows how the RT score has dominion over the way not only we can make decisions, but how studios can make decisions.
  20. Well, if you've seen the movie it isn't literally pieces of those movies stitched together, though how wouldn't that not be good? I meant, in a half joking manner, that bits and pieces of the movie or story here and there reminded me of things from those movies or that show. For instance, the approach of the Domo to Earth reminded me very much of the monolith from 2001 a Space Odyssey. The way Ikaris floated and a battle towards the end of the film reminded me of scenes from Man of Steel. The Deviants form reminded me of the creature from John Carpenter's The Thing. The scenes of primitive humans meeting outworlders reminded me of Terence Malick's The New World. Stuff like that. Eternals is a good film. A very very good film in my opinion.
  21. Well I for one am glad the movie exists now. It's my favorite MCU film for the now but will probably drop back below Endgame and Captain Marvel as the high wears off. With a story this big (as in characters size), I'm not sure how you continue the film's cliffhanger without either making a sequel or making it the story of an Avengers movie which won't happen. If Marvel nixes a sequel maybe a Disney+ series to continue the story? I think, and hope, the world wide box office may help Eternals surpass Shang-Chi which may warrant an Eternals sequel . While half of the groupthink critics hate away and RT continues its faulty aggregation system that has dominion over the world, it appears a majority of the worldwide audience loved this film and want to see a sequel, or something.
  22. I believe it was first reported by the New York Times which is a reliable news source. Zhao was considered the Pride of China apparently over the success of Nomadland but when the 2013 interview was discovered and made its way on Chinese social media, all mention of Zhao in China media was deleted. Now that's what you call cancel culture.
  23. Since Chloe Zhao has said she was inspired by multiple movies in the making of Eternals, I think the movie might be well described as being Avengers meets Clash of the Titans meets 2001 a Space Odyssey meets Terence Malick's The New World meets Man of Steel meets Logan's Run meets John Carpenter's The Thing meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers meets The Dark Crystal meets Mork and Mindy to throw a little classic television in there.
