  1. Just a shot because I don't know for sure but the story "Return to the Pitt" appears in Star Brand 17.
  2. Okay, now I know everything there is to know about collecting comic books.
  3. 9.2 due mostly to the upper and lower left corners along with the edge wear along the bottom. Very nice find. Kind of neat finding this as is in a bin.
  4. I love that last post because it's exactly the way I feel about it. I needed to start this thread to see if anyone else felt the same way but was bothered when I read in overstreet's guide...ticks not allowed in a 9.6.
  5. The risk is maybe getting a 6.5 once it's all done. Go collect currently has a FMV of $160.00 on the 5.5. Goes up $30.00 on a 6.5. Based on that, risky. Like Funnybooks mentioned, many of the defects will still be there after the press. But, the book would look better when cleaned. Maybe wait for a bigger spread between the 2 grades?
  6. 4.0 only because of the amount of creasing, spine wear and missing piece lower right.
  7. Could someone please point out the 2 or 3 defects I'm not noticing. There's a grey line between a couple pink dots and speck of white along the spine...and I'm not sure if it's the book or a crease or a tick. I'm going in at 9.6...only because I can't see what some of the other boardies that chimed in can see.
  8. Kind of reminds me of a 4.0 I own but mine has a lot more wear along the spine so I'll stick my neck out at 6.0 on this one.
  9. Yeah, I know it's a huge hassle and that's a big reason all the books I've been purchasing the last 40 years...I still have. Just too much trouble selling them properly. I was actually thinking more in terms of books which are worth hundreds of dollars that I purchased back in the '80's. X-Men 129, Moon Knight 1, Micronauts 1 (Variant), Machine Man 19...many of my copies have survived in perfect condition. Those I would definitely get graded if and when the time comes to sell.
  10. Agreed. However, any book that I thought could be a 9.8 I would most certainly get graded before I sold it if the price difference between a slightly lower grade (9.4/9.6) is significant. Although I wouldn't be confident in grading any raw book a 9.8, I wouldn't have a problem grading it with a chance at a 9.8.
  11. When they give a book a subscription crease, the front cover is on the outside bent back, so the pages of the comic give it some protection against it getting a permanent crease. However, the back cover on the other hand gets all the pressure. You can press the book all you want, but nothing (IMO) will get that crease out.
  12. It wouldn't bother me. As a matter of fact I purchased a Fantastic Four 3 years ago that I knew was pressed although the seller didn't tell me. The damage along the spine had evidence of the comic having a serious spine roll at one time. It pressed out perfectly flat and I was happy to pay 4.0 guide for it raw as to me it looked like a 4.0 in that condition.
  13. The other issue is getting the crease to disappear on the back cover as that's usually where the permanent crease is. However, I'm wondering if you can possibly do better than a 6.0 if by pressing it, the front cover comes out absolutely flat with no evidence of it having subscription crease. Naturally they would know it had one when they looked at the back cover. Another way to put it is would a book with a subscription crease on the back cover only with a couple corners indented like yours make it to a 7.0 or 7.5?
  14. Well you know what they say...grading is subjective, and this thread proves it..no matter if it's the collector, the investor, the seller, the buyer, Overstreet or CGC. The only one that counts however, is what CGC says. Thanks everyone for chiming in. For some reason this was really bugging me. I feel better about giving these one - tick books a 9.6, with an outside chance at a 9.8.
  15. If I understand the question....if you press a book with a subscription crease, the crease will still be there (back cover) so it won't help. If you press a book with a pocket crease, the crease may (or may not) completely disappear depending on the severity of the crease. At that point, whether or not you can tell the difference on how the crease got there, is a moot point. They will grade the book on how it looks after pressing. They wouldn't care what it looked like before the press.
  16. Yeah, in that case there's really no reason to even try to remove it.
  17. So here's a question....does it effect the grade? IMO no.
  18. IMO a crease like that is about as serious as a spine tick breaking color. I would count it as a .1 deduction only,. But again, just an opinion.
  19. I've heard from a trusted source it's quite possible to send in a stack of 25 perfect comics you think should come back 9.8 and some will come back anywhere from 9.4 - 9.8. The graders are looking for defects, and are very good at it. They will notice things you never noticed.
