  1. I bought it for investment purposes. Unfortuneatly, it didn't do a whole lot in 12 years. Went from a $1000.00 comic to $1500.00. However, (full disclosure) I also purchased a Restored Fantastic Four #1 for $1600.00 and it's now worth somewhere between $8000.00 to $10,000.00. So, as a package, I didn't do too bad. Even so, he still was able to look after me. When I bought it, I put it on the pile and it pretty much sat there. I am currently rebagging my 18,000 book collection and when it came time to do my Justice Leagues, I had a chance to take a long close look at it. and that's when I noticed it.
  2. James...so sorry. I've read your question and I would answer it ... if I understood it. The only thing I can comment is I don't remember suggested you GTFO. Whatever that means. How about a private exchange. I'd very much like to hear from. Your point of view is interesting...I think.
  3. It's only a matter of time before he does appear in a movie or show. The buyer will be okay, as long as he hangs onto the copy.
  4. I'll be following it if it does as I do have my copy. What's interesting is we don't get to see her face in Inhumans 5..but it's there front and center in the Wizard booklet.
  5. Ok, it's not a comic and it's not hot right now (I don't think) but I did just want to put this out there...in case a few of you didn't know. Wizard on occasion included a free comic with their magazine. Some were kept, some were thrown out but if anybody kept the Marvel Knights issue which introduces that particular line of comics, it has a 2 page spread of the new Black Widow which I do believe pre-dates Inhumans #5. That would make it...her 1st appearance. So, what do you guys think...is thing gonna' go sky high?
  6. Hey, I appreciate all the feed back guys. It just shows how much everyone on this forum cares about the hobby and doesn't like to see this kind of thing happening. I contacted the seller on the basis right or wrong that he wasn't aware it was a photo copy either. Whether he did or not isn't important. What was/is important is what he's willing to do about it. He simply said that he recalled having several restored comics for sale in and around that time and he's taking me on my word that I purchased it from him. He asked me to send him a scan so he could take a look at it. After that was done, he looked after it....like the pro he his. He offered me $800.00 in trade for anything he's got available. That includes all the CGC stuff he has for sale and anything/everything raw. I thought the offer was generous under the circumstances because some of the comments did go somewhere along the lines of hey, it's been 12 years. I'm going to take a long look at what he's got and either upgrade some of the stuff I have in my collection or fill in some holes in some of the runs. So "boomtown" option "C" obviously was the right move. Thanks again one and all.
  7. Someone buys a restored Silver Age key from a trusted source and pays $1000.00 for it 12 years ago. 12 years later, he finds out the cover is a photo copy when examined. Staples checked and its a married cover. Had the comic been a restored copy it would now be worth roughly $1500.00. (Justice League of America 1). Not sure what I should have paid and what it would be worth now as is. If anyone has any ideas on the value, I'd be interested in their opinion. Option A: Let the trusted source know about it to work something out Option B: Lesson learned. Leave well enough alone. It wouldn't be fair to expect the seller to do anything 12 years after it was sold.
  8. The 3 with the most upside potential IMO would be: Ghost Rider 1 ... thinking he will show up in the marvel universe one day. and I don't mean a stand alone movie. X-Men 10...when Ka-zar appears in the marvel universe, you'll want this one already CGC'd and there have been whispers Thor 165...for when Marvel does a Warlock story you'll want this one CGC'd as well. So, look into the future...not what's already been done. Again, just my
  9. I checked my copy and it doesn't have it. Not that it means anything. If it was a spray from the printer as was already suggested, it would be random and it would make perfect sense that the spot would not be on multiple copies.
  10. hmmmm...wondering how long before we see Throg as a Saturday Morning cartoon.
  11. This doesn't have most of the defects would normally see with a 7.5...but only because of the wear and tear on the finish, I personally couldn't go any higher. Nice edges, corners and perfect spine. Has the look of a comic in a pile of books that pretty much just sat there for years without any handling. Nice copy that deserves better.
  12. You've got 3 9.6's...doing pretty good. The only issue I see is a nick at the top edge maybe about 3/4" from the spine? Without that, I would have gone in at 9.8.Nice copy.
  13. Easy 7.0 at least...maybe as high as 7.5. I've seen actual 7.5's that look a lot worse. (My copy looks worse and I'm under the opinion it's a 7.5). Comic lays flat, no creases, nice edges and that gloss....shiny...lots to like. And oh, did I mention ... 3 out of 4 nice corners too.
  14. Sorry, can't go higher than 8.0 on this one. IMO the spine ticks are maybe just a bit too prominent and I counted about a dozen? Also, the lower left corner on the back. If you are considering getting it pressed, I'm not sure if the grade would be much better.
  15. It's the one on top with the upper right corner crease....that's the one you should look at.
  16. Gotta' agree with the majority...3.5 to 4.0 range.
  17. Yes, that is most definitely water damage. What I do know is even though serious creases are not allowed on an 8.0, if the rest of the book is near perfect it will pass as an 8.0 regardless...I've seen them, so I know this is true. Is it the same for water stains? I really don't know. But based on what I do know about how a crease is handled on a near perfect book, I'm going to give this an 8.0 as it stands. Weigh that against the other comments as they come along.
  18. Hi...nice copy. Because you asked...corner wear upper right, indentation along right edge and combination of several spine ticks would put this at 8.5 IMO.
  19. Wear along the spine, tape pull upper right, crease lower right and dirt on back cover = 4.0.
  20. Okay, I had some trouble with this coming in at 8.5 as well. However, I checked the grading for what's allowed in a 9.0 and it reads "Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted but no creases". Yeah, it's not much of a crease, but it is there in the lower left corner.
  21. Nice copy. If that's foxing on the bottom of the back cover I'll go 9.4. If it's dirt I'll go 9.2.
  22. I'll go 9.8 on this one. Looks a lot like the one I have in my collection.
  23. I do see a spine tick, so this won't be a 9.8. Also, because you asked, if you don't need the money keep it as is ungraded. I'm basing that on personal experience. Been collecting for for over 40 years and have sold many books along the way that would be worth $1000.00's today. That includes a 9.8 raw Captain America 100 and X-Men Giant Size 1 and 2 Hulk 181's (yeah I kept the best one). You will hate yourself for selling this when you see what it's going to be worth in 20 years. The catch is, you have to look after it.
