  1. Congrats Tom! I was the underbidder and had hopes of bringing it back myself. Can't think of a better destination for the book.

I brought one back home myself. Bought it from Metro many years ago, sold in November 2006, and now just bought it again.

    Flash131.jpg

nice pickup. too lazy to check but 1/2 what it last sold for? much nicer than the MC copy i picked up and 20% less to boot.

  2. Some seriously weak prices across the board for JLAs in the Heritage auction. I actually won a few and was underbidder on quite a few others, including the 9.4 JLA 3 which I never figured to be in the running for. Quite a comedown from the price paid for the 9.4 copy that sold on Pedigree, particularly considering that this one appeared to be nicer because it didn't have the miswrap of the Pedigree copy.

i was underbidder on the #6- probably should have been more aggressive. was blown out of the water on the #4, that seemed like a strong showing for a 9.2- GPA high i believe (don't say that much recently). the #2 seemed ok given that there are a few 9.6's banging around. in general, this title performed better than GL or Flash IMHO.

  3. I was the underbidder and didnt want to crack the 8K mark for the book. Long term just dont think the book is all that important to be worth whatever prices its currently getting. Still cant believe whoever has that 9.2 copy on Clink didnt take that 5K bid.

If the series seems soft now cant wait to see how prices are after the movie comes out next year.

that's lanier's copy on clink IIRC

  4. from heritage auction

Green Lantern #7 (DC, 1961) CGC NM 9.4 OWW pages....$7,767

How did this compare to boardee expectations?

I am nether the buyer or seller so don't pull any punches.

don't know what people were thinking for this book- but based on other results this is the deadest "hot" title ever. the #9 9.2 went for 60% less than the last sale (probably because it looked like an overgraded POS). i picked up the #25 for exactly half the last GPA sale (and i probably overpaid). the #4 9.4 (a terrible looking 9.4) went for less than the MC 9.2.

  5. from heritage auction

Green Lantern #1 (DC, 1960) CGC NM- 9.2 White pages....$16730

Mound City GL 1 9.2 was way too high. (thumbs u

based on the $50k tim's 9.4 went for it wasn't outrageously high for an: unpressed, first 9.2 to market in years copy.

this copy has a pretty noticeable dust shadow but structure is very nice.

  6. As much as I agree that Yannis (and Muscleshark/DRFRANKENSTEIN and Dekeuk ...) should be placed in the Hall of Shame I do also think that the only one that can put him there is the person that got the short end of the stick in that deal from hell.

And even if they do not end up in the list, it's equally important that the board never forgets who they are and they are capable of as they have zero scruples when it comes to making money and don't care who they step on to reach their target.

Why would Dekeuk be put on the hall of shame? What did he do?

    From memory...

    * selling vastly overgraded comics and when called out on it, saying he made a mistake and that he posted his "eBay grades" and not his "board grades".

*Spamming half the boards with "dubious investment opportunities"

*Trying to sell stupid- comic posters which he first claims were from the 70's...then after being told numerous times they were not, claiming he doesn't really know from which era they are, but that he thinks it's the 70's...relisting and relisting them, still giving false info until a board sleuth found the eBay auction where he bought them...as posters from the 1990's

And my favourite ones (for which he doesn't merit the '"list" just a swift kick in the gonads) :

*Spamming the Clink new arrivals list by deleting and then relisting his same overpriced every other day.

    nicely done

  7. Wow - this is just hilarious! :roflmao: What a presumptuous pompous gas-bag lol

This is the response I received:

    Hi Mike,

How bout your Torch and $ 250.00 ? If not I will understand....???

Do you have anything high grade that you would like to sell currently at 75% of market value ? Here is a tip for you as I have been collecting 34 years and you are

obviously a novice collector ...9.2 means near mint minus and brings 1.5 to 2x Overstreet guide especially if the book is low in the price guide. I hope this helps

you grow up as a collector. I didn't realize you knew so little about the market.

Please don't send me any more of your ridiculous offers...this being the 3rd....however if you decide to "MAN-UP" and put your

money where your mouth is then please by all means contact me...you are kind of becoming a re-occurring joke around here,

Thanks for the laughs,....I really mean it...it has been quite hilarious each time. Myself and some of the guys on the boards have cried because we laughed so hard each time I circulated your email offers,

I just don't have anymore time for this as my business partner and I just scored a 1.5 Million dollar collection

and need the time for serious matters such as real customers.

    best,

    Xxxxxx

for those of us who gave up on this thread 50 pages ago- where can i find this exchange?

  8. Some very nice GLs in the May Heritage auction which just went online, including a 9.4 #7. This copy is very nicely centered, and in that respect is superior to the 9.6 copy.

Will be interesting to see how these do.

i have to finish getting outbid on the books in pedigree's auction before i can focus on getting outbid on these.

  9. By the way, this is well on its way to being the greatest thread ever and would make a great Mastercard commercial:

The first New Mutants #98 CGC 9.9: $12,250.

    10 sessions with a psychiatrist: $3,500

The notoriety gained from making the most ridiculous comic purchase ever: Priceless :acclaim:

    :bump:

This will go down in the history books. He would've done equally as well if he burned the money

Says the guy who sells ultra high grade niche books.

Exactly! I sell them, not collect them. Anything that touches my hands now is purely to flip and make a quick buck before the bubble bursts in everyones face.

    honesty :cloud9:

  10. I dont know, I think there is waaaaay too much stigma associated with trimming. To me it says I dont need a 2nd mortgage to own a highest graded SC 22. That's just me I guess...

The comic society just HATES TRIMMED comics...maybe that will change someday. Again, that is a great looking book that won't break the bank.

I don't mind disclosed trimming one bit. I'd rather have a book with a little trim than a book with a large piece added.

    (thumbs u

are you talking about comics here? hm

  11. I hesitate to buy 9.8's unless they are really priced right. I am so worried that most of them are restored by that restoration technique known as pressing. Its a shame CGC cannot detect it and give the books the Purple label that Pressed books rightly deserve. Old labels I feel a lot safer then the newer labels.

who exactly is pressing moderns to achieve 9.8's? :screwy:
