  1. Thank you so much for the sharp Superman 74....I've wanted a nice copy of this one for a good price for a LONG time. Packed solidly and shipped quickly.GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  2. Based upon what? Based on comments over the years on the Boards in general. I've had the same papers sitting on my office desk on and off for years and they still look brand new and white in a lights on/lights off environment. Understand I keep my goodies in a fireproof carpeted safe but it would take many many years in a 90/10 lights off/on environment to deterioriate comic paper esp in a CGC protected case. Yes light breaks down pulp and paper but at about the same longevity compared to a meteor's odds of hitting earth. IMO. And yes, someone can probably prove me wrong with i'net science and facts. Rather than dazzling you with science I will relate a local comic horror story. A LCS had a 6 high standup showcase with a light at the top. In that showcase was all the SA Marvel keys and a few DC keys. Over time the cover colors of the books faded. The books near the top and closest to the light source, AF15 and FF1, were so badly bleached that they were almost unrecognizable and the books near the bottom had faded but still had some color left. Light has a huge impact over time. I color photocopied some of my favorite books and OA and framed them in cheap frames. They look pretty good. Sure. But I'm speaking for the collector. Anyone (or a LCS) who hangs them in continuous light is asking for BIG trouble. Avoid flourescent bulbs....incandescant are much safer. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  3. ....ever get that Marvel Tales you were thinking about ? GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u

  7. I can't answer for the ink used in the 60's, but today's ink is very pliable. It doesn't set up hard like nail polish. But I know today's ink is quite different than what was printed years ago. It's possible this could have contributed to the chipping problem, but I have no way to prove it one way or the other. This does sound reasonable. I know several people who were buying early Marvels off the stands and they say that chipped copies WERE on the rack. I'm going to post an example of what is called "pre Marvel " chipping by some, where the chipping is outlined on the cover but is still not gone. There is another example in KorvacSaga's sales thread.....a JIM 62. These are books where a break is present in the ink on the front cover but it doesn't show evidence of breaking or chipping on the inside cover. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u P.S. I've never seen this on a book post "63. I have noticed rough cut (jagged) right edges on many books into 1966, although this seems to be something different from the chipping....although still an example of poor QA from the time period. Here's the JIM 62. I was thinking about what you said about white cover books and chipping. Chipping is common on FF 1 , but I can't recall white books having the "pre-marvel" tears that are exhibited on these two pre heros and many others from the time period. Maybe the darker inks add enough thickness to the cover stock to prevent full scale chipping in some cases, as it appears to do on these two examples. When I worked at a few print shops in the 80's, our publications were sheared in thick stacks for the final cut. Is this how it is with comics also? GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u

  10. If you enjoy the bios of AC/DC and Zep, be sure to read Keith Richards' autobiography, and also the bio of Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys. I recently read the first book of "Maus" and really enjoyed it. I also just read a very long article in the New Yorker about Scientology and Paul Haggis, and it was very interesting. ......love rock and roll bios....and anything about th Stones is at the top of the list. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u

  13. .....I found an old H.P. Lovecraft biography that I had forgotten I had and re read it. It made me want to read the stories again....last read them in the mid 80's and they seem fresh now. There's also a documentary on him I just watched that had Neil Gaimen paying him tribute....great stuff. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a fiend of jesus) (thumbs u
  14. What are you guys and gals reading right now, besides comic books? I know comics helped instill a love for reading in me and it's still a major focus in my life today. For me.... "Jack the Ripper, Case Closed" by Patricia Cornwell, "The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene, Collected Short Stories by H.P. Lovecraft, "Souls on Fire" by Elie Weisel, "The Nature of Space and Time" by Hawkins and Penrose, and two biographies about AC / DC and Led Zeppelin. They're all great. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  15. It looks more like a sell-it-to-fantastic_four-er to me... GREAT book, hope you do keep it. .....the current Clink auction is FF lover's paradise....curious to see where the 9.4 16 and the 9.6 28 end up. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  16. Now that's a keeper. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  17. ....he was only "rocky" on the cover.....Roussos didn't start inking interiors until # 21. Stan often had inkers do a cover or two before they were given interiors....Stone did the cover to 27, but didn't do an interior until 28. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  18. .....the first "rocky" Thing, courtesy of George Roussos .....when you get tired of that copy, LMK..........GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u

  20. Even though it's in a new slab, the serial number indicates the AA 5 is a very early submission. I wouldn't be surprised to see it get an 8.0 White if you resubmitted it. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  21. Beautiful 6.5. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  22. Most people achieve vintage staple replacement by removing a set from a rag copy of the same book....or to have a reputable resto person to do so. Most commonly available staples today are flat instead of round....a magnifying glass will usually tell the tale. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  23. Which ones would they be, Rich ? GOD BLESS.... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  24. I'd heard that D.C. had hired some guys to drive a truck over each early Marvel after it came off the press, so they would look inferior to their products on the stands. They must have missed that copy for some reason. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
  25. Congrats on the reunion......I'd salt it away too......that cover is so cool, it even looks good as a "beater" which is what most of them are. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u
