  1. Submission for reholder delivered on May 1st and box scanned on May 4th. Hasn't been checked in/received yet. Just wondering if this is terribly out of the ordinary or has something to do with the influx of submissions before the price changes? I only submit occasionally so don't really have too much experience to go by. Never taken nearly this long for anything prior to be checked in. At this point I don't even care about TAT just be happy for it to be checked in.

Presents way better than it's grade with super deep colors! Just has some overspray on the top edge of back cover that knocked it down to 7. I have a 9.0 that looks nearly identical on the front cover.

Well, I have decided to take everyone's advice. I am no longer going to pursue this trade.

I currently have my Avengers #1 posted for sale on IG, with an asking price of $1,500. I have gotten a lot of likes, but no one has shown any interest. I will probably take it down in a day or two. I might try to post it here, but I think it will generate even less interest here.

@Funnybooks alerted me to a Hulk #3 CGC 4.5 for $1,499 on IG. Unfortunately, while I was negotiating for a lower price, someone else claimed it. As @Funnybooks said to me yesterday, another one will show sooner or later.

I have to be honest. I was falling into the trap that many of us fall into. I just felt that I "needed" to buy a new comic. After waiting for some time, I came to my senses and realized that as much as I wanted a Hulk #3, trading my Avengers #1 for it was not a good idea.

I will keep looking for the eleven issues to complete my goal of obtaining the first ten issues of the first ten early SA Marvel titles. At the same time, I need to start saving up so I can get a copy of Avengers #1 in CGC 6.0.

Thank you very much for everyone that contributed their advice. Best wishes to all of you!

Have you considered Myslabs? You'd be looking at a 4.9% fee in total. You could advertise the listing here on the "comics market sales advertising" forum for Ebay, etc. Otherwise there's always the possibility of consigning to CC or Clink or maybe Lone star.

    It’s borderline criminal....

Feebay please....for the love of God....give it a rest with the fees!

They're making it impossible to sell anything 🤬

If you sell somewhat pricey slabs, what they're effectively doing is inviting people to just delist and consign to the auction houses at first sign of life in the market. This goes double if you're a casual seller without the need of a storefront subscription. At least throw people a bone every once in a while with a final value fee promo or something.

Try telling that now to the consignor who was able to get only $201K for his CGC 7.0 graded copy of Cap on CL when CC was able to fetch over $300K for their CGC 7.0 graded copy of Cap 1 the following week.  :frustrated:    :censored:

Should be noted that Clink has been charging sales tax (at least in Florida) since early in the year and CC hasn't as of yet. I assume if they're charging in Florida, the same would apply to other big states.

10 X (or whatever crazy figure you want to use) was the norm back in the 2000s for many books. Then the multiples dropped for most books and those staggering multiples were reserved for 9.9 + for a while but it seems they're back in vogue again.

X-men #120 is an incredibly tough book key book. If there's an X-men movie in the works you KNOW Alpha Flight will be in the mix at some point and people may be trying to anticipate that as well.

Are you talking about certified? That was about the time census data was still being filled and top grades were a lower %?

That is what I'm wondering.  Is it possible that the new investors who came into the market recently only buy 9.8s?  That might make them somewhat immune to the ups and downs of the lower grades if these investors stick around.

The term "9.8 craze" was thrown around here once or twice in 2020. There was one auction on HA - I think in the fall of 2020 - where I recall people rage posting around here 1000% convinced shenanigans were going on. If I recall that specific auction had a bunch of rando 9.8 issues just going for whacko level prices.

Anyway, I think even the 9.8s that sell relatively often like GSXM 1 have at least doubled FMV since pre pandemic.

One advantage of placing tracking bids vs. using a watch feature on ComicLink is that once you place a bid on a book, you have a permanent record of that sale. Otherwise, you can't look up previous auction results...just like on ebay, ComicConnect, and most auction sites (Heritage being the exception).

I doubt tracking bids affect the final sales price of very many books at all, they have so many books and such a deep bench of bidders that the effect is likely negligible.

Bless the day Clink develops an easily searchable database of past auction results on the website! Not talking about the way they have it now where you have to scroll down a wall of auctioned slabs but something like a search engine specifically for that. It really would be most helpful!

I was wondering about a few sales where the price difference between the 9.8 and 9.6 was huge and what that might mean for the market.  For example:

    X-Men #120 in 9.8 sells for $8600

    X-Men #120 in 9.6 sells for $809

Census has 108 copies of the 9.8 and 347 for the 9.6.  10x multiple vs. about a 5x multiple in 2018.

    Ultimate Fallout #4 9.8 Variant for $35755

    Ultimate Fallout #4 9.6 Variant for $8250

    173 = 9.8s and 242 = 9.6s.  Four times plus multiple now vs. 2x plus in 2021.

I'm just wondering if the multiples are going to stick if prices continue to decline.

Well if those multiples persist then I don't think it would be consistent with a market in correction or decline. In such case I'd imagine there would be eventual top down spillover on to other grades. Clearly enough people have concluded 9.8s to be in a league of their own for some time now but 10X seems excessive imo.

Generally If you're going to have an up market then some degree of increasing multiple between grades is almost inevitable. Maybe not 10X but it'll be some increase. I don't think a 10X multiple between 9.8 and 9.6 is sustainable but we saw very wide multiples persist in 2020 and 2021.

In addition to all their other issues, the CC auctions are just so erratic/unpredictable in offerings that they're like a box of chocolates...you never know what you're gonna get. Heritage gets so much quality material and spends so much on advertising that nothing slips through, and the ComicLink auctions are always choc full of quality silver/bronze/copper and as a result they have a well-established client base. The CC website/auction format needs some help.

Honestly CC's website was probably better before they changed it. If you're using the mobile version it borderline sucks. I like them as a company but that website👎

My current copy.  Not the best cover registration top to bottom, but spot on side to side.  The black line that demarcates front cover from back is right on the spine all the way from top to bottom, with no back cover showing:

Just curious what would be the problem with this copy from top to bottom? Is it the black line? And does the spine have anything to do with judging registration in general? It's a little confusing reading the back and forth.
