  1.

I've got the Power Girl Exclusive coming in. That's why I want a Black Canary. . . to put with Power Girl and Batgirl. Though, Zatanna and/or Huntress would be great, too. Canary is my favorite, though.

Just got this statue today. I highly recommend this one in case you want to get something to fill the spot until a 1/4 version is released. (thumbs u

  2. Sideshow has the best sculptors in the business, hence the portraits. Their main problems are post-prototype (QC) issues, and not taking enough chances with their concepts and character choices, which is in part due to licencor restrictions, and in part because they're trying to keep costs down to maximize profits.

So XM enters the market to fill in those gaps, doing second and third tier characters in high demand, and bringing ambitious, eye-catching concepts to get attention. And they back it up with the quality control and community participation Sideshow is lacking, which they can do because the scope of their business is much smaller.

So overall, both companies have their strengths and weakness, which are clearly reflected in the pieces they put out. All the comparisons between the two are just biased collectors voting for what they've invested in.

I agree with you 100% there. I just wish SideShow would address their QC issues which is becoming a big problem. QC is not something to overlook as it will cost them dearly down the road. Especially now that we have a lot more options on the market, they really need to step up to the plate otherwise they will lose the market. Nowadays, I'm passing up on a lot of their statues unless I really got to have it like the Dark Phoenix *which I just PO'ed today*. You never know what you're gonna get once you open that box and last thing I want is to deal with their customer service which doesn't have a good rep.

  3.

SS has been hitting the portraits out of the park lately. Human portraits have been XM's weakest point IMO. There are a lot of great customs out there such as the Phoenix and wolverine unmasked one but I hate having to pay an extra 150 for one.

Yea I agree that SS has been putting out some nice portraits lately. Can you imagine this portrait on XM's phoenix statue? Would have been perfect. If someone can make a really nice custom portrait for the XM Phoenix, I don't mind shelling out the extra 150 for it. As long as it has that WOW factor that I can finally give it a 10 out of 10. Which custom Phoenix portrait are you referring to? Is it the one by Troy McDewitt?

  4. Did anyone get the Power Girl Exclusive? The pics I'm seeing look REALLY good. I should have preordered her! One guy on Facebook is displaying her with Batgirl and Wonder Woman, and the trio look fantastic together. A quartet with Catwoman would be even better.

Wish they would make a Zatanna, Would look great with Wonder Woman and Batgirl very much like the Brave And The Bold 33 cover

She would look amazing, no doubt.

Until then, we will have to make do with this.

  5. Dark Phoenix going up for pre-order on Thursday.

    I'll be ordering. :frustrated:

I'll have to say the portraits are a lot better than XM's Phoenix, but other than that, I think XM is far better in all other aspects. The Phoenix Force and the base are a bit disappointing. However the sculpt of Jean Grey is pretty well done. I'll most likely add this to my list of PO.

  6. The Boba Fett PF just got delayed :frustrated:

That awkward moment when the SS Spider-Man PF release date moves up 3 months earlier. Is this real?

Yea I was also surprised to get that notice from SS. Is this the first time they ever moved up the release date of a PF?

  7. I received the XM Phoenix statue early this week, but didn't get the chance to take pics and unbox it until now. As usual, incredible XM packaging and super tight and sturdy box. It came with a nice picture on how each piece is packaged which I think Sideshow needs to follow. Also not to mention an awesome art print!

I'm floored by the awesome details of the Phoenix Force. It can practically stand by itself as its own statue!

Phoenix came with three different portraits. I'm having a tough time trying to pick one out to display her with...

All I have to say is that pictures and videos will do no justice for this masterpiece. You all really have to see this in person. This piece has my vote to be the best statue of 2015. My only small gripe about this is the portraits could have been sculpted slightly better, but they're not bad. Otherwise I would have rated this a perfect 10/10, but as of right now, I'll give it a 9.5 / 10. I'll most likely display her like this...

    2evugj5.jpg

Standing at almost 2 and 1/2 feet tall and weighing over 40 lbs, this statue is no joke. Now I just need to find a place to display her since she is bigger than most of my display cabinets.

  8. Speaking of Batman, I just put in my order for this monster from Prime 1. Will be getting the companion Deathstroke too. Can't wait.

The details on this Batman looks sick. I'm actually looking forward if you're planning to do a review on this piece once you get it. (thumbs u

  9. Quick question.. Are the 1/7 Scale Kotobukiya statues as good as they look? I wanna pick up the Lady Deadpool when it comes out.

I highly recommend getting them. The Kotobukiya's are probably one of the best 1/7 scale lineup out there. So far I have not been disappointed with any of their releases.

  10. Sideshow's Kerrigan Queen of Blades from Starcraft II.

This might be the most intricate paint job I've ever seen on a statue, and some of the best paintwork I've ever seen from Sideshow. The details are just insane, and I can't take pictures that do it justice.

Kerrigan looks so awesome and I'm glad Sideshow actually pulled this one off. I'm still kicking myself for passing up on the Black Friday sale to pick one of these up from the Blizzard store figuring I'll pick one up next year since I overspent my budget this month. Lo and behold, they are all gone now. Congrats COI on picking her up! This is definitely one of the better statues released this year.

  11. I LOVE seeing all the set ups here.

I have always wanted to dabble but I only have so much extra $$$ to go around and comics always seem to win out be whenever I peak at this thread, I get the bug to just buckle down and get me some statues or even one.

I always thought and still do think about building a "Spidey Shrine" though with with a mix of graded books and statues.

Any recommendations for a good Spidey statue to start???????????

The new Amazing Spider-man statue coming soon from Sideshow is a good candidate. You can choose either the original costume or the black one or go for both.

They are still available for pre order on their website.

  12. Congrats to those who finally got their DD PF. A long time coming, and it looks great.

    2a8kgpj.jpg

    :whee:

I felt :o at the size and detail of the statue when I got it out of the box! It fit perfectly on the shelf. The detail is so good that my poor daughter was afraid of it. :D

    That's an awesome setup. :applause:

  13. I echo what was said about buying what you love and being picky. It's easy to get carried away initially because there's a lot of cool stuff out there, but try to ignore the impulse to buy and wait for those pieces that REALLY blow you away. You'll know it when you see one. On top of being somewhat pricey, it's the space these things take up that is the real premium.

Also, there are so many companies springing up now and getting licenses, whereas a few years ago it was basically all Sideshow, so I expect the statue market to be over saturated very soon. Unlike comics, which you can basically collect thousands of, there are only so many 1/4 scale or bigger statues that any one collector can accumulate, so the more stuff gets made, the more you're going to see tons of sold-out product on the secondary market as collectors make room for the newest hotness. So again, being really picky, buying slowly, and avoiding the "completist" mentality is the best way to go, IMO. You can't lose in the long run if you really love the pieces you buy.

    +1

I only got into statues about two years ago and my collection has already exploded to the point where space is now an issue. Now looking back, there are some statues I wish I had reconsidered getting. Also I ended up with some doubles because I just had to chase down the damn exclusives...

As COI mentioned, toss the completist mentality in the trash and get the ones you absolutely must have.

  14.

I saw that at SDCC. Gorgeous statue.

This is definitely one of the better sculpted Red Sonja statues. I PO'ed it the first day and hopefully the final product comes close to the prototype shown.

Anyone else feel that Sideshow is slowly pricing themselves out of the market? Given their shoddy QC and inconsistent product history, I may have to start reconsidering ordering their statues at the rate they keep jacking up the price.

  15. Feel free to add fletken.z3g5vq2 to the list. Submitted an offer to buy my 1st Carnage Spider-Man lot. After offer was accepted, he sends me a message later that night stating that he found a better deal elsewhere. I sent him a cancellation request and pretty much never got a response nor heard from him again.

  16. Just got my XM Ms. Marvel statue today. Been looking forward to this one for quite a while.

    MM_zpsgcbiplzi.jpg

As usual, beautiful protective packaging. The box is nice and sturdy. However some cover art to the box would have been nice. One thing I did notice is that XM now includes a photo of where each piece fits into the styrofoam which I thought was a nice touch.

Living up to their standards, XM Studios' quality control is amazing. I don't see any major defects and neither do I have to worry about the googily eyes plaguing Sideshow Collectibles' PF's. Ms. Marvel comes with two portraits which I think the long hair looks better IMO. Although I'm not really feeling the base of the statue, but overall I think this Ms Marvel looks good. :cloud9:

  17. So I imagine new mutants 26 will heat up with the new legion TV show.

I think you mean New Mutants 25

I don't think so, or at least cgc has the full appearance as 26.

First appearance 25, first full and first cover 26 (shrug)

Imagine if people actually opened the books to see for themselves what the "appearance" was. This one would be close and shut.

I've always gone by #25, but whatever you have the most copies of is fine with me.

I've never heard or seen anyone refer to 25 as being (more) significant.

This is the same situation as Wolverine, so if we keep it consistent, then issue 26 should be the book to get. I have already put up my copies for sale and so far a majority of the folks are hitting me up on issue 25. (shrug)

  18. So I just found out that the Tombo glass doors for the BESTA cabinets from IKEA has been discontinued. This certainly throws a wrench into my plans to set up a display for my SS PF's and XM statues. Anybody got any good recommendations for alternatives?

    +1

The bezel on the new doors are just too wide. I'm considering getting some custom solid panels done. Ikea was suppose to make a full length one (it was pictured in the instruction manual) but they never came out.

Yup agreed, all their other door options just don't help with displaying statues. I thought the Tombo's were selling well. I wonder why they discontinued it.

  19. So I just found out that the Tombo glass doors for the BESTA cabinets from IKEA has been discontinued. This certainly throws a wrench into my plans to set up a display for my SS PF's and XM statues. Anybody got any good recommendations for alternatives?

Might look into the BILLY IKEA bookshelves. They also have a glass door option. If my memory serves, they are 10" deep. Might not be deep enough for some PFs though.

I just checked out the Billy bookshelves on the site. The shelves look nice but they don't have any glass doors similar to the Tombo.

  20. It is amazing to me that this item under discussion can be relisted with the same description!

I find it even more amazing that the books are already re-listed when the seller doesn't even have them back yet...

Why are you blasting me? I've been nothing but amendable to you since the start. Yes I relisted them. Had to, your dispute put me in a financial bind and I need to re-sell them quick. It's not as if they've already been re-sold. It is a 7 day auction ending next week. Timed so that I can inspect and send them out to the new buyer within the listed time period, unless you plan to damage me further by dragging your feet on the return. And for the record, I lowered the grade on the #1. There we go with the not reading the description again. If you have anything else to say. The best way to reach me is directly, please do so if you have anything else to say

Let me get something straight. You wanted me to mail the books back to you on the 13th because you're out of town. That's counting 7 days from now plus the time it takes the book to reach your address and your new listing ends in 6 days. So how are you going to inspect the books before the auction ends? You already advertised issue #1 as VF which I already know that book is no where close to that grade. That's the big key book in the lot. So what happens if the post office delays the shipping or god forbids something happens to the package during delivery? You do realize there's no guaranteed date with Media Mail right? So what's gonna happen now? There's just so many unpredictable factor that can't be controlled. Either way, I certainly do not want to be in the new unsuspecting buyer's shoes. I understand you're in a financial bind but what you're doing is totally not cool in my books. Do not worry, I am not out to screw people. I will send out your books on Saturday the 11th so it should arrive when you are back in town as agreed. I'll be glad to talk privately anytime with you, but remember, I wasn't the one who originally brought this out to public first.
