  1. I think the 2nd and 3rd prints of X-Force #100 go for over $100.

Not confirmed, but just what I remember as I was hunting them down for my Registry set.

I think the strangest thing is that #98 didn't ever get a straight up 2nd print.

DeadPool was not a popular character back in the early 90's. I remember the only reason why I picked up a copy was for the first appearance of Domino and to complete the Liefield run between #86 - 100. He was just a cookie cutter villain that was introduced. He was changed into the DeadPool that we all know when he got his own running series with Cable down the road.

  2. In fairness, the "market" has changed its mind in the past on what is considered "key" first appearances.

    -J.

    Which books?

I am not trying to be a jerk here, but I cannot recall any bigger character 1st apps that has happened with. (shrug)

Our Army at War 81 used to be Sgt. Rock's first appearance. Then folks wise up and it became Our Army at War 83.

Brave and Bold 54 used to be considered Teen Titans' first appearance. Still is. But that'll change, too. ;)

    I said bigger characters. lol

So, that leaves us with one for now, and a maybe.

I am on the fence re: B&B #54 vs. #60 for the simple reason that all they did was add one character and call them the Teen Titans in #60. The core of the team was already in place in #54. Time will tell, I guess.

WRT Harley Quinn, the "1st Appearance in DCU" does not hold the same cachet as either of those two instances. In addition, she has 10 or so appearances in comics before the one-shot. That will be tough to overcome.

All of this reminds me of an argument I gotten into with a dealer at a local show a few years ago before BA12 exploded. Seeing that Harley was getting really popular among the cosplayers, I figure eventually people will be looking for this book. At that time, I was buying up every copy I could get my hands on and one of the dealers noticed and asked me about it. When I told him why, he pulled his copy of Batman Harley Quinn from his wall and said this is the book to get and that it pre-dates BA12. I said OH RLY? and whipped out my phone and showed him photos of CGC slabs of both books. Once he realized that BA12 actually was released 6 years prior, he changed his argument saying that Batman Harley Quinn is the first appearance of her in the DCU *which was true* and that no one is gonna go after a book base on the animation. My argument is that without the animation, you wouldn't have Harley Quinn. I said that's fine, you go ahead and stock up on that book and I'll keep looking for BA12. Now we all know which book is the ONE to get. However, like many of us on the boards, I totally underestimated how popular this book could get and liquidated a majority of my copies when it hit the $100 plateau. doh!

  3. I was going through comics the other day and was very surprised A & A had a $4.50 cover price.

    Amazing.

That was because they merged Archer & Armstrong and Eternal Warrior into one big book for that month. It also features Ivar's first appearance as well. (thumbs u

  4. Valiant fan in da house! :cloud9:

It's good to see so many familiar faces from the Valiantfans forums. (thumbs u

You need to start coming by more!

    :baiting:

BTW - I remember meeting you, ever so briefly, back in 2006 at the New York show where VALIANT had their "reunion."

    :)

Yup, I still have fond memories of meeting you all at the 2006 Valiant reunion. :cloud9:

I'm definitely trying to make more time to stop by. Now I know why they say life is pretty much over once the kids comes into the picture. My 3 year old constantly needs my attention, but I'll try to check the forums more often when I need a breather or two. :)

  5. Forever People 1 has quietly reached new highs in high grade. I used to be an opportunistic buyer whenever I saw one reasonably priced but those days are gone. I know this is the first full Darkseid but wow :o

CGC 9.6 is almost impossible to find and 9.4s are now way out of my range.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of copies for sale. I did a quick look at completed auction at HA, CL, eBay and World Wide comics and there really haven't been a lot of recent sales. HA did have a 9.8 sell for 2K...

Similar to many other key characters that have high potential for making movie appearances, the high grade copies are all being hoarded until something is announced. Another example is with Adam Warlock. High grade slabs of Marvel Premiere 1 are rarely seen for sale anymore.

  6. DC Super-Stars #17 CGC 9.6 @ $91 & 26 watchers. Keep in mind the 9.4 ended up selling for $193. :ohm

I think that's a fair price considering what the last 9.8 sold for.

hm What did the 9.8 sell for?

    $1080 back in last December.

The All-Star Comics #58 (Power Girl First Appearance) on Comiclink went $1150, that's $70 more than the Huntress. Wow! both of these books are hot right now.

I was eyeing that book too. Sadly it went higher than I expected.

there will be plenty of others where that came from

I certainly hope this sale will bring out more 9.8 copies. However, given what I've seen so far on the other books that have ended on ComicLink, speculation on key issues have taken a whole new level.

  8. The casual fan probably isn't aware of it and it's still pretty affordable.... Then they said it could be the next Hulk 181, So I expected to see some movement.

    Who said that? :insane:

I believe Mike asked and Walt said if they keep up with the GOTG movies he could see it go as high a Hulk 181.

Hulk 271 is getting a bump as I now see raw NM copies selling between $200 - $300. Rocket may be popular with the kids these days, however, I just don't see him being on the same level with Wolverine no matter how many GOTG movies they pump out. The book will still be a Bronze age key for a while, but no where near Hulk 181.

  9. Ah, eBay, i do love you so. Thank goodness this was only a FN to begin with.

Apparently cardboard is too expensive so she only used one piece :)

At least you got a cardboard and padded envelope. I remember a while back I won a raw copy of ASM #300 described in NM on Ebay, the guy sent the book to me inside a Priority Mail Flat Rate envelope with no bag / board or any type of protection whatsoever. The book was naked by itself inside the envelope. I was already prepared for the worst when I opened it. Surprisingly, the book was not damaged at all and it even came back as a 9.4 from CGC. Until this day, I still can't imagine how that book actually survived without a scratch going through USPS in just an envelope. (shrug)
