  1. Take it easy Rob. This is at best a few hundred books or at worst a few thousand. CGC knows who this guy is and they'll track down the books he submitted and make it right and address the issues he exposed. Could there be other people pulling this scam? Maybe but let's not panic until we have proof. I have a lot of slabs and I'm not worried. CGC has graded a lot of books and relatively this is a pimple on a moose.
  2. I'll disagree. There are many, passionate, old school collectors who believe comics are meant to be read and would love CGC to fail. One of the GA Facebook groups I belong to has many members who hate grading companies and don't own any graded books. One of those guys posts 5 to 10 raw high grade golden age books each day and has done so for years. And he seems to have everything and his collection has to be worth millions and millions.
  3. Agreed, definitely Cnd and looks legit. I have lots of Cnd print books with blank interior covers.
  4. And he's essentially just heating the corners of the case with a hairdryer and prying away at the slab in his garage. Imagine if he had better tools, more practice, and took his time. Suddenly I'm looking at my slabs and wondering how many are fabrications.
  5. I suspect this scammer has been selling through all the auction houses. Why limit himself to ebay, especially when there are so many hulk 181s and books like it out there?
  6. I disagree. CGC has posted official responses to issues like this in the past and I expect the same this time.
  7. I nominate you for president of the club. Well, the club that brute is holding on the cover. Or is that a Fred Flintstone bone?
  8. take if still available. I'm just catching up to this thread and will dig up a book to donate shortly. Jim was a fixture around here a long time and I never saw an unkind post from him. Get better Jimbo
  9. Agreed, we don't know how deep this iceberg goes. CGC certainly deserves blame here, it's their job to design and sell a product that we can trust. But honestly, how foolproof and perfect can a $50 mass produced plastic sleeve be? If there's enough money on the line don't you think that someone with enough time and motivation will experiment with CGC cases and look for loopholes in their processes until they find a way to pull this off? I suspect there's no such thing as a foolproof CGC case. We can all proportionate the blame where we want and CGC certainly deserves some of the blame but let's not forget that this POS seller is breaking the law and deliberately ripping off comic book fans for an easy buck.
  10. I'm pretty sure the higher ups like Matt Nelson were aware of this issue shortly after it came to light. I'm sure the staff has a way to contact them if necessary. I'd imagine CGC is digging into this, trying to figure out how this happened, how damaging this is and working on their crisis management response. This is damaging for the CGC brand. If there are numerous fraudulent CGC graded books collectors might start to view any graded book as suspect and value raw books higher than graded books. CGC can't allow that to happen so they'll likely do what they have to to calm the waters and change procedures to prevent this in the future. I guess the question is, is there any foolproof way to grade comics?
  11. While CGC deserves blame for selling a service that can be manipulated it's not all on CGC. Let's share some blame for this POS seller for manipulating the system and knowingly ripping off collectors for quick gain.
