  1. Seems like the good stuff has always gone up. But comic art, comics, sports cards, any collectible, is only worth what the next person will pay for it. I invest in stock in companies that generate profits and I don't consider collectibles to be an investment. But that's me and we all approach life differently.
  2. I'm around 4.0 just because of the staining and rusty staples. Sweet book.
  3. Welc Welcome to the boards. Spider-man #1 is a wonderful book. You may not have the cover but it's still an iconic, important comic and a piece of history. Trying to find someone with a cover to work a deal out might take forever. Your best bet is to list if for sale and let the buyer decide what to do with it. He might have just the cover or he might be on a budget and coverless is all he can afford. If you get it graded it'll probably be worth in the range of $2k. There are also some GPA results for single pages selling for $100 to $400 each so it might be more profitable to slice it up and sell it - something I'd hate to see. Not sure what a raw copy would sell for but I wouldn't be surprised if raw copies sell for a similar amount as a graded coverless copy.
  4. Insurance, costs, amount of time spent grading book are all hogwash. They charge more for expensive books because they can. If they charged $500 to grade a book worth $200 they'd have very little business.
  5. I don't believe this to be true. If he's not responsible, then who is? Exactly. Matt is in charge and ultimately responsible for everything that happens at CGC.
  6. Well, the listing indicates 'like new'
  7. We’re neck and neck. Last books I’ll release from my collection
  8. Welcome to the boards. As Mr SOTI has said, CGC witnesses signatures, meaning a signing has to be witnessed by a CGC representative, and there's no way to get a signature designation after the fact. Other companies have autograph experts who can authenticate signatures.
  9. Holy Mackeral! Talk about using the archives. What a gift - thanks for bring this back. We're bringing it back Baby! And some of those prices! Curses, archived or I'd take a bunch...
  10. And this is just what we know. What don't we know about?
  11. 14 years? And all he apparently did in 14 years was crack the book out and disassemble it? I'm so sorry Paul.
  12. As the price goes up the demand decreases. As the price goes down demand increases. It's all about supply and demand and one of the factors that affects demand is price.
  13. It's always supply and demand. New Mutants is very common, even in high grade, but demand is also high. If demand is high prices are higher. Hell, SA Fantastic Four and Spider-man aren't rare. Huge print runs and likely 100,000 or more surviving copies of most of those books. Even AF15 isn't rare. Demand is strong enough to absorb the large supply and keep prices elevated. And speculators see a potential windfall and jump onto hot or popular issues and increase demand.
  14. The inclusion of Groot into the Guardians of the Galaxy movie made Groot popular driving up demand for #13. Once that happens buyers and sellers start trading money for copies and the market adjusts. Certainly speculators jump in and try to make a buck but that's always gonna happen. Sometimes speculators jump in and the movie bombs or the supply increases and prices drop and the speculators lose their shirts.
  15. Because prices are also affected by demand. Demand increases if the cover is classic or appealing or if by a popular creator - think J S Campbell or Schomburg as examples. Demand increases if the writing or art is more popular - think BA Uncanny X-men as an example. Demand increases if something memorable happened like the first appearance or the death of a character - how can we not understand that there's only one first appearance of Spider-man and that it's more important than his 200th appearance.
  16. Hey buddy, hope you don't mind if I streak your thread
  17. You have good taste. Here's a few threads dedicated to GA artists. There's pretty well a thread devoted to every major artist and publisher and there's a lot of information here if you start digging. I was in Greece for holidays about 10 years ago. Really liked Crete.
  18. Welcome to the boards. How did you discover collecting GA comic books.
