  1. Looks trashed also. It's a win win all the way around the block(head).
  2. It's a bit of a pickle. Without some level of posting requirement we'd likely see more fraudulent WTB threads but on the other hand we want to be welcoming and encourage new members. I'm not a fan of a newbie WTB section. Would it be possible for a disclaimer to be displayed in their sig line or under their profile picture, where mine says 'member' to draw attention to their low post count?
  3. 4.0 to me. I still remember the first time I read this book. So much fun.
  4. To be fair, as much as I don't love his art I have to acknowledge that his art to a significant degree defines 1990s art. Despite his lack of technical ability he still brought something to the art form, helped sell millions of comics and attracted a lot of fans.
  5. Hell, I couldn't read the stuff. But I love the art.
  6. A new LCS opened up. This was maybe 1981. On their walls were about 50 pages of Kirby Forever People and New Gods Original Art. $50 each which was a lot of money to me at the time. The good news is I bought one, the bad news is I bought one. That's easily my biggest BA regret, not putting on my big bronze boy pants and buying them all. I still have the page and love it. Kirby's artwork for DC at that time was beautiful and I would suggest as beautiful as his work for Marvel in the 1960s
  7. Agreed. Mystery boxes are a dealer's crafted method to sell drek he's failed to sell. I just don't get it. Why would I buy a bunch of junk rather than what I actually want? I haven't used WhatNot or Instagram but I'm sure there are good sellers and bad sellers.
  8. Congrats, nice result. And I'll lock this information in my porous little brain.
  9. When in doubt summon CGC Mike. He doesn't just moderate this forum, he also advocates to the best of his ability for us when there's problems.
  10. While buying run moderns from the LCS I was essentially collecting the 'last appearance' of a character. The following month I'd have to buy that too, cause it's now the 'last appearance' of a character..
  11. Since you're supposed to only have one book per thread I'm just gonna grade the ASM 129. It sure would benefit from a press. I'm not quite sure what's going on with the bottom front right corner. Is that a folded over piece or a stain or rust? I'll guess it will hit 3.5 to 4.0 after a press.
  12. I'm floating between 5.0 to 5.5 Great issue
  13. You don't sound like you're on any substance, except perhaps granola. Most of us value first appearances much higher than other appearances and yes, it's much like a sports-card's first appearance of an athlete. I guess the biggest difference is that there are many comics worth good money not because they're a first appearance but instead because of the cover artist or classic cover designation. I'm not sure sports-cards collecting cares about the artistry of the image. Is there a Schomburg or LB Cole or Campbell in card collecting?
  14. Well, if it's the real deal and you will break essentially even you're not in a bad place. God knows most of us have made buys that worked out a whole lot worse. Don't put too much attention to the page designation. We've seen lots of books where the page designation changed when regraded. CGC just doesn't seem to be consistent on page quality.
  15. Page quality shouldn't affect grade. Pressing and cleaning can help a book but not every book. If you think about the pressing process - applying humidity and heat and pressure - bends divots etc can be addressed but a color break that breaks the ink can not be repaired. The ink has been damaged and the only way to address that is color touch which will get you a restored label.
  16. Looks real. CGC has bought a signature authentication business so I'd wait until CGC authenticates books before getting it graded and authenticated.
  17. Unfortunately those tired SA and BA keys and Modern spec stuff is the comic market for many of those 'influencers'. As much as I love early SA books there's a lot more out there. Had a local flipper selling some GA at a show. He was asking the moon for an early Batman and a few other nice books but he had no idea LB Cole Romance was worth anything. I tried not to giggle when he quoted $25 for a classic Cole romance book that was worth 20 times more. When I bought it he was thrilled because now he could afford supper. Giggle. I love guys who don't know as much as they think.
