  1. It's a one of a kind piece. It shouldn't matter what color label it has, or even the grade.
  2. It's taking someone bad experiance to use it as a teaching moment, unless you think it's a good idea to leave thousands of dollars worth of anything on your porch.
  3. Thieves suck, but you have to use some common sense. These packages can be tracked so it isn't a surprise when they will arrive. If you can't be there to recieve them, get some else to do it. Ask the delivery service to hold it for pick up or schedule a delivery when someone will be home.
  4. Does anyone know when this came out in relation to Strange Tales 101? 101 is the first of the Super-Hero era as Jhonny Storm launches his solo career and has a cover date of October 1962 which means in most likely came out in August ,give or take a few weeks. The Annual just says 1962, but I think Annuals usually came out in the summer. Strange Tales Annual #2 says 1963, but I've seen date stamps from July and August so I'm guessing it was released in late July. It's jjust book keeping but I'm trying to decide if ST Annual #1 is a pre-hero Marvel or the first reprint book of the Marvel Super-Hero Era.
  5. It's hard to enjoy my breakfast with so many youngsters playing on my lawn. When the door is closed, look for an open window.
  6. In Florida, I think you can contract out with the local department of corrections.
  7. I think dealers reputations tend to speak for themselves. There is a reason that Bob Storms, Harley Yee, Reece family, ect have risen to the top.
  8. Variable mortgages were very unpopular at the time, as chances were they would go up, not down. I was four days late one month on my payments and the rule for refinancing at my bank was nine consecutive on-time payments, and the new rate had to be 3% lower or the fees involved would eat up the savings. After this, I was out of the mortgage game for a decade and the landscape was very different when I went looking in the early 90s. In the 70s, banks only wanted to lend money to people who didn't need it. If Citibank gave you a loan, they were locking in a relationship with you for the next twenty years. In the 90s, the idea was to make the loan and quickly sell it to another bank, locking in a small profit but reducing the risk to nil.
  9. Not really. My first house cost $39,000 and had a mortgage over 10%. I want to say 11.9% but not certain. 20% down. I think I made about 15 payments and refinanced at around 8%. I had the house three years, sold it and walked away with a tidy profit. Sadly, the house would be around a million dollars these days.
  10. Or, as is my case, the chance to throw money at other things. I look at my books, and look at prices being paid and the decsision to sell is so much easier. I'd originally thought I'd keep my Detectives below 600 and sell the rest. Then I decided to cull at issue 500 and up. In the end, I went with keeping any under 400 and selling the rest. If prices weren't so high, I'd have kept much more but as it is, I was able to sell a bunch of books for much more than I expected. I have put some money back in- I bought an Avengers 1, Hulk 181, and a few Ditko Spideys but with prices so high, it isn't a good time to buy. My biggests buys in 2021/22 have been non-comics.
  11. If you eliminate the competitition, then you can eliminate customer service. CGC has it backwards.
  12. If EVERYONE stopped buying CGC slabs immediately, demand will go down and people would stop sending in hundreds at a time. In a few years, TATs would be under control and the world would ,once more, be a safe place for musical comedy
  13. I buy the majority of my internet purchases from their auctions and have never noticed any shenanigans. On proxybid two years ago, I meant to bid $250 on an item worth about $400. I accidently entered $2500. At the last minute I was bid up to $2201. I explained to proxybid it was an accidental bid and they canceled it, but never explained how it got bid so high.
  14. Interesting how the Australian Commandmants of Citizenship are so different from the U.SofAs.
  15. I'm going to guess that you have never called CC or the Link the night of an auction. Perhaps you might try.
  16. Not at all. They man the phone in case there are questions about the auctions about to close. With people having questions about the auction, the guy had no time to discuss a shipping issue.
  17. How much of Heritage's auctions are consignment and how much is their own stuff?
  18. Unless I have a real bad case of misremembering, the article Forbes did on Heritage many moons ago said that Heritage was based in Texas so that Mr H. could allow his employees to bid on items. I'll see if I can find it, but my google skills aren't the best.
  19. Heritage set up shop where they did at least partially because shill bidding is legal inTejas.
  20. He made a real impression on fifteen year old future shadroch. He was, by far, the best addition to the Marvel Universe s far as I was concerned. He didn't age very well but I imagine there are a bunch of people who remember first reading this and thinking he was going to be someone special
  21. Stamps, coins and cards take up a lot less room than comics, are easier to secure and easier to transport. My ever growing vintage card collection easily would fit into one long comic box.
  22. I have some Roberto Clemente stamps that are in a sealed holder and were graded by something call GAI.
