Those type of bags were available empty to comic shops as a way to package excess stock, as opposed to the Whitman bags where the books weren't first available elsewhere. They are nice and very collectible but the condition of the books can vary.

Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...
shadroch replied to PeterPark's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
You folks must be seeing something I'm not. I see a blonde haired Belit. Valeria wore sleeves. Belit didn't. I see Belit. Others see Valeria. I don't think it's a first anything, no matter who it is. -
Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...
shadroch replied to PeterPark's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
Can someone post a Marvel comic depiction of Valeria from the time the art was drawn. When I picture her, she is in leather pants, with a loose, white, pirate shirt. I have read the original stories more recently than I have read the comics so maybe my memories are off. The way she is depicted in The Age of Conan stories is pretty spot on to the way I picture her. Not like the movie showed her. -
Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...
shadroch replied to PeterPark's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
Most of the images people are showing are from the movie. The female in the movie is named Valeria but her character is much closer to Belit than to Robert Howard's Valeria. I don't see how a character from a movie that was almost a decade after the art in question was drawn can be used to decide who is in the art. In the written universe, it was Belit who overcame death to save her beloved, not Valieria. I have over two dozen Conan 58s, although none would get a 9.8. so I'm not arguing from a financial point of view. I'd love for #58 to explode, and as I have five long boxes of Conan 1-150, I hope they all take off. -

mycomicshop.com is a good place to start. See what their midgrade copies sell for and what they will pay for them. -

I re-read FF 249-250 over the weekend. I've always recommended it to people as being one of the high points of Marvel story lines of that era but I was not too imprressed with it. -
Do you know what Spawn's first appearance is?
shadroch replied to Lobstrosity's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
Very well written and researched article. I've never read a Spawn, never bought one on purpose and dont care one iota about it but read the whole thing and it kept my interest. -
GSX1 Fading grade?
shadroch replied to Joe Brown's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I on't know how to grade them, but I know how I value them. Moderate fade might drop it by half. A severely faded book, and the X-Men above qualifies, would be 25-30% of the normal grade. -
GSX1 Fading grade?
shadroch replied to Joe Brown's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
In the 1980s, when back issues were pretty limited , many shops hung these not to sell but to display. I remember when the FF Trilogy walked into my shop. I hadn't seen a 48 or 50 in quite some time so I priced them well above guide because I wanted people to admire them, and talk about them with other fans. When I first opened, back issue sales brought in more customers, brought in more revenue and had much higher margins than new books. -
Like many people, much of my "knowledge " of the law comes from watching Judge Judy, The Peoples Court and the other shows. I'm surprised sometimes when they dismiss what seems like misrepresentation as puffery, and vice versa.

I don't know. I wanted your opinion on if puffery was considered illegal or not. I have not followed most of this discussion.

I bumped because I was commenting on the puffery aspect. Was it hard to figure out?

Isn't this the same as saying the car was only driven by an old lady to church? I believe puffery is permitted in advertising. What is an original owner collection anyway? Every book has an original owner but every book sold by a dealer is not being sold by it's original owner. I got grief here on this board a few years ago over this. A shop had bought a large collection from its original owner and he sold me about a third of it. People told me that since I bought it from the dealer, I shouldn't claim it was an original owner collection. They were okay with the dealer calling it an original owner collection since he bought it from the owner. i'm not defending this seller, but asking about the general practice of selling..

Overlooked double cover?
shadroch replied to Bronxwarrior's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
If they didn't mention the double covers, the books were not accurately graded.I'd want a refund. The outer cover could easily be a grade or more different than the inner cover. -

Two DC keys for auction, ends Sunday the 18th.
shadroch replied to shadroch's topic in Golden/Silver/Bronze Age Only
Sorry for the delay, but I was having trouble with the time stamps. The last bid came in after the deadline and I can not honor it. -
Can you show the top of the bag? I'm thinking this is an aftermarket bagged set. Aftermarket bagged sets are not as valuable as original ones, so you might be better opening it.
