  1. I'd already forgotten abot this, but I had a package with a thousand dollars worth of merchandise get checked into the USPS facility at JFK and never check out. I was lucky enough to get a refund from the seller but he said it was happening way too much and he would not ship a replacement.
  2. A lot of newsstand comics were never distributed and went out the back door on the way to the shredder.
  3. I looked and found about a dozen copies in my "Once Hot" section. None were Newsstands and none were 9.8 candidates.
  4. Use the 21 foot rule to your advantage. Or you could avoid any conflict by hitting the BIN.
  5. I've been having a lot of problems with Fed Ex ground. I'e been waiting on a number of packages that were late when a Fed Ex rep calls me to ask what she should do with my packages. I say -Deliver them, but she tells me the business is never open. I tell her I'm there four or five days a week from noon to five. The next day the guy shows up with 17 packages. One of them is a case of tomato sauce that is leaking all over the place. I point it out to him and he acts like he hadn't noticed. I take a photo of it and ask him to note that is was delivered damaged. Saturday, someone knocks on my door and asks if I am missing any packages. He lives down the block, at 615 Bisbee and someone dropped off three boxes there that are clearly labeled 214 Bisbee. They were too big for him to carry so I ended up having to go retrieve them.
  6. I appreciate the bids, which have already exceeded my expectations so now I am including FREE SHIPPING!
  7. Archie Comics had a much bigger newsstand distribution than Marvel or DC had at that point., so I don't think newstand copies will be all that rare.

  11. After years of wanting it, I finally picked up a pretty ragged copy of Captain America Comics #3, which has Stan's first published work- a text story about Cap tracking down a traitor. It just came to my attention that sometime in this century, Marvel actually got Stan to flesh it out and published it as an actual comic book, or perhaps just as a story within a comic, but minutes of searching the net proved useless so I figured I'd come to the experts Does anyone know where the story was published? Is this really his last published work or just his last at Marvel? Thanks in advance
  12. Yes, the boxes hold up well with full boxes above them. I originally had them four boxes high, but with more room I now top them off at three. My comic boxes are six high, but I put a sheet of plywood on top of the fourth level to spread the weight better When I say they aren't a perfect fit, its because there is extra room on the sides as the boxes are meant for magazines, not slabs They are the greatest invention since sliced beer!
  13. How high can you stack these, and if you need something from the bottom one, do you need to move the ones on top? With drawboxes, you can access the bottom box without moving the ones on top
  14. I'm thinking a HF box inside the styrofoam and shrink wrapping the whole thing. I'm not sure they will fit, but if it does.....
  15. I've had this book for several years and have tried many ways to remove the smell. The mildew smell was a bit worse but the smoke is just as strong.
  16. I've got a nice looking Avengers 2 that I would guess would grade out at about a 5.0-5.5. The problem is it smells bad. In addition to the dank, mildew smell you occasionally find, this book has a smoke smell , as well. While the mildew smell is fairly slight when you open the book, the smoke smell is noticeable if the book is closed and on a table a few feet away. In fact, it transfers to your hands with slight handling. I imagine the book was near a fire, as opposed to it being cigarette smoke, but can't be sure. If I put the book in a mylar, and then into a previously cracked slab, it isn't noticeable but do you think it should take a hit on the apparent grade?
  17. Your defense just brings up more questions. I would expect a grading company to insure that lighting in any location they were using to be at a certain level.
  18. Over ten years ao, I bought six Magazine sized Drawerboxes from The Collection Drawer Company. They have been moved from NY to Las Veas, and then a second 500 mile trip to Arizona and they are as ood as on Day 1. Light years ahead of the knockoffs offered by BCW. The magzine sized boxes are not a perfect fit for slabs but close enough for my purposes. In NY, I used the optional anchor locks to make a solid brick of 12 boxes, but now have them stacked three high and three wide with no anchors. I can't recommend them highly enough. They are $44 plus shipping for a four pack. It looks like they no longer offer six packs. www.CollectionDrawer.com
  19. Mycomicshop works best for me. The books are listed quickly, and they pay lightning fast. No excuses about the owner being away and no one else can sign a check. It depends on the quality of the books, as well. As much as I use MCS, I gave my heavy hitters- AF 15, TTA27, ect to Bob Storms and was very happy with the results.
  20. I need to ship 24 CGC books from Arizona to New Jersey and am looking for suggestions on how to best ship them. Splitting them up into six flat rate boxes is an option but seems expensive . I've thought about re-purposing a couple of styrofoam coolers as they seem to arrive with little damage to them, but I'm wide open for suggestions. Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.
  21. If previously slabbed books are now being graded with worse page quality than when they were first graded, is it that the graders are now harsher or could it be the slabs themselves caused the books quality to suffer? Maybe the newfangled Newton Ring technology isn't as benign as some think it is.
  22. I can't argue with that grade. My favorite SA book.
