  1. I actually found my copy of AF 15 in a therapist office. For some reason, he thought putting a couple of five figure books on display in his waiting room was a good idea.
  2. I'm dubious. Perhaps I'm wrong, but Joe Simon didn't spend all that much time at Timely. Wasn't he fired around issue 10 of Captain America when Goodman found out he and Jack were moonlighting? I know Joe had only only son, and I've met his Grand-daughter but I have no idea if she has a brother.
  3. There is a section of these boards where people post books and other forumites give their opinions. Study them. Learn what defects are worse than others. It's not ideal as graing is a hands on experience but it is a way to start.
  4. PGX has been around for what, fifteen years or so? Evidently they are doing well enough to continue in operation. I don't trust them and I generally don't buy from them. Their failure to adopt the new Newton Ring technology is rather appalling. It's as if they don't even care about it.
  5. It's nice to have an extra $10,000 laying around, but have you given any thought to what comes after you do the whole restore/grade thing?
  6. I spoke to Skylar and they are doing some long overdue maintenance of their Ebay shop and it should be up and back to normal early next week.
  7. Thanks. I hadn't seen those in years and this copy is much richer and deeper than the VCR versions.
  8. That's a shame as it is a quirky little town with lots of shopping and a pretty good nightlfe in normal times. It's well worth an overnight stay. No cookie cutter hotel chains in the neighborhood, but some very historic hotels. There are a dozen staircases of 50 steps or more, mostly carved into the side of the mountain. Cochise County has five mountain ranges, with great trails. Cochise and Geronimo had their sanctuaries in these mountains and they are virtually untouched. May I ask where you were going that you passed by but didn't stop? Only thing after Bisbee is Douglas and the only thing there is a Walmart. Unless you are headed to Mexico, but even there ,it's a sleepy crossing town and then the desert.
  9. I don't care for most post-SA Marvel phot-covers, but I make an exception for the Trouble mini-series.
  10. No easy answer. When it comes to books from 1960, the restoration check alone might be worth it on some books. kids and dealers used to use magic markers to cover up things and a clean bill of health will make the book worth much more than a raw copy. Slabbing a Brave and Bold 28 may increase its value by hundreds. Slabbing a Jerry Lewis 115 may not increase the sale price at all. The more the book is worth, the better it is to slab them.
  11. My purge continues, and offered in this weeks auction are two must have DC books. Lot 1 is a low grade Flash 139, with the first appearance of the Reverse Flash, aka Professor Zoom. I'd put it in the 3.0-3.5 range. Cover is tight, book is complete Lot 2 is a midgrade Shazam #28 ,first BA appearance of Black Adam, soon to be a major movie star. This one I'd call a VG with some potential gain from a pressing. Paypal only, USofA only, usual rules apply, study the pictures, ask if you have any questions, returns accepted but not appreciated. Starting bid on each book is $25, with $3 minimum increments. Buy it now on either book is $300. Shipping is $10. and the books will ship within 72 hours of payment. Auction ends at 9PM EST time on Sunday October 18th or five minutes after any last minute bids. These were part of a unbagged DC reader collection I bought around 2006. About five years ago, while preparing a bulk sale I pulled a few books that had gotten hot. Another two books I have almost nothing into, so let the market decide. Bid early and often!
  12. That's the place. Bisbee, whose town motto is- We are all here because we are not all there.
  13. Bisbee- Where everyone wants a job but no one wants to work. It's a magical place.
  14. I had a guy stop in on Friday looking for work. He seemed nice enough, had a decent resume and had a six month old sheriffs card- which means he passed a basic background check six months ago. I showed him around and he expressed interest in working on my comics and sports stuff. I told him he would be working on that eventually but right now I had other jobs for him. He spent six hours yesterday putting together shelving units that would have taken me two, but it was his first time and there is a learning curve. He comes in this morning and says he has a cousin that needs work, so why don't I let his cousin do the outside work and he can sort the comics. I tell him, again, that the comics are not a priority and to concentrate on the jobs I give him. He works outside for maybe twenty minutes, tells me he is going to run to the store and he'll be back in ten minutes. Two hours later he comes back and tells me he has gotten another job and how I really blew it. That I'll never find another worker who knows as much as he does and is willing to work so hard. I'm beginning to wonder if my building is on an Indian burial ground or something.
  15. I would say the writer and artist intended that to be Belit. Just because the colorist screwed up, doesn't change their intent.
  16. Blue. You can also get a blue with an unverified signature on the cover, as well, if you are okay with them counting the signature as a defect.
  17. If only he had used a flat rate box, he'd have gotten away with it. Be careful out there people. There are sharks in the waters.
  18. Never, ever, let the fear of someone laughing at you stop you from doing what you want.
  19. Winner Winner. Chicken Dinner. Thanks to all who participated. Look for Auction #2, featuring five Individual Omnis. Starting Tuesday and ending Sunday.
