  1. So you followed two books, one sold for more than the other and you decided to make a thread about it. Suppose the other had sold for more? Would we be reading about it from you? Buy sheep and sell deer. Rinse and repeat.
  2. Agreed. Without such magic, they would have been a third rate crew. In today's Disney/ Marvel mess, they are background noise.
  3. I used to use an assortment of colored stickers for my prices. A quick glance told me how long the book was there and the longer it was, the bigger the discount I could offer. Any wall book that didn't sell came down after awhile. The illusion of them selling was almost as important as the actual sale.
  4. If you can't figure out who the sucker at the table is within 15 minutes, it's you.
  5. Super Stretchy guy, an invisible girl, a rock monster not quite as strong as a couple dozen heroes and a teenage brat who can flame on. Its amazing they got as far as they did. In the DC Universe, they'd have been relegated to minor roles in the Legion.
  6. Any long established business that needs to send out an SOS for $2400 is not doing something right. No business gets evicted for not having a security deposit on the first of the month. Something simply doesn't add up.
  7. The auction house that I won mine from was given shipping estimates of several hundred dollars. They had a few inquiries but decided to sell it as local pick up only.
  8. Just grabbed this for $110, including the books. There are 10 12 cent Marvels but in bad shape. A couple of nice BA books, including a MOKF 18. The spinner is off, but is in the background. https://mcmanusauctions.hibid.com/lot/32847952/vintage-metal-comics-merry-go-round-display-rack-w/?cpage=9&ref=catalog
  9. Have you been checking online for bankruptcy auctions? Lots of stores go out and their fixtures sell for pennies on the dollar. Quite often, guys with trucks hang out at these and you can hire them to load them and transport them for you.
  10. I'm sure Conan forgot her name in a matter of days. Bar Wench will do.
  11. I just don't have the patience. I'll been assembling some 4D tank models for a WW2 diorama and I even rush those. More than five minutes and I start leaving stuff off.
  12. Sounds like he had an exclusive cover made and owns all 600 copies. From his description-our first collaborative IGComicstore Exclusive Variant Limited to 600 copies worldwide
  13. That came much later. His first store was about a mile west, and Very small. Maybe 10x20, with no new books. Just back issues and some baseball cards. His father in law owned most of the block.
  14. My friends store had his bags done by Jimmy Palmotti(sp?). I just used generic Marvel bags that the Comic Retailers bought by the hundred thousand.
  15. You grew up in Queens? Was that the small store by the movies or the bigger one closer to Parsons?
  16. Very nice. Not to nitpick, but that's not Belit. Conan doesn't meet her for another twenty years.
  17. I've never even given this a thought. After pondering it over for about thirty seconds I realize why I never bothered. First Captain America vs first Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch? Why does Bambi vs Godzilla come to mind?
  18. Call the Post Office near Coyote. Pretty sure using the US Mail to deliver stolen goods is considered mail fraud.
  19. Bought a reprint set today. $17 on ebay.
  20. I hate this stuff. Here I was , content in my ignorance and now I find more stuff I need. Ihatesyou. Bizarre fact Ihatesyou auto corrects to Charleston.
  21. Early to mid 80s DC had some great stuff- Titans, Legion, Camelot 3000, Swamp Thing, but as a rule the books were still inferior to Marvel and even some Independents.
  22. Hercules pulled Manhattan, not Long Island. Manhattan is maybe one hundredth the size of Long Island. The real problem was he towed it in backwards. I think much of the early Bronze Age is as good or better than later SA stuff. I greatly prefer 20-25 cent Avengers to earlier stuff. Defenders of that period was great. Starlin's Captain Marvel, Master of Kung Fu, New X-Men. Dr Strange. All outstanding. The FF, Hulk, Thor and Spidey weren't that great but it seemed like the torch had been passed. Man-Thing, Werewolf by Night, Dracula and Howard were blazing new trails. Captain America from 150-until Kirby came back was fantastic, even Frank Robbins art couldn't kill it. By the late 70s the magic was definitely gone.
  23. Fifteen years ago, or perhaps more, I decided to collect every 12 cent Marvel. I thought I had a good chunk of them, but forgot about all the obscure titles. Fast forward to around 2007/2008. I was down to the last fifty or so books. Went to a major convention and spent most of the day hunting for them. Found a dealer who had a number of books, mostly Millie the Models, that I needed and was haggling over a package deal when it occurred to me I was about to drop two hundred dollars on books I didn't want, and would never read, just to complete a goal that no one but myself really cared about. That month I purged my SA Marvels of about around two hundred books and traded for an Avengers 4 and 9, a Spidey 14 and a GA Captain America. My fever had broken.
