  1. No. The book was simply cracked out of a slab. The label is meaningless.
  2. Don't let the bastards get you down. You can't make everyone happy, and trying to is an exercise in futility. Someone gave you a bad review on Facebook. So what. You have your dream, and they have what? Don't be the guy who has to try and explain away every bad comment you receive. Take to heart the ones that are correct and fixable, and Roll with the rest.
  3. Mycomicshop sends their slabs packed in an individual box. It might be able to hold two or three, but certainly not five.
  4. They would be fine, but as your collection gets bigger, these will cost more and take up more space than a short or long box.
  5. Ebay is matching donations right now.
  6. Even that isn't consistent. The first Turtles in color was supposed to be in Grimjack #26. There is even a reference to it in the story, but due to some publishing problems, it came out a few months after another title. So do we go with creative intent or by publishing date? I'll give you two guesses, and if you say creative process, I'll let you use your second guess. I just wish things were more consistent.
  7. Mary Frances "Frankie" Housley (October 12, 1926 – January 14, 1951) was the lone flight attendant on National Airlines Flight 83, which crashed after landing at Philadelphia International Airport on January 14, 1951.[1] She led 10 passengers to safety, then returned to the burning cabin to save an infant. She died in the attempt and was later found holding the four-month-old baby in her arms. The story of her courage made national headlines, including an item in Time magazine.[2] One passenger called her a "real hero". A congressman labeled her the bravest American in history At 2:13pm, January 14, 1951, National's Flight 83, a DC-4, landed in Philadelphia from Newark, New Jersey, en route to Norfolk, Virginia.[3] It skidded off the icy runway, through a fence, and into a ditch. The left wing broke off, rupturing the gasoline tanks, and the plane caught fire. Housley opened the emergency door and saw the ground eight feet below. Returning to the cabin, she helped passengers release their seat belts, guided them to the door and gave a gentle shove to those who were hesitant to jump. After saving 10 passengers, she returned to the cabin to try to rescue a four-month old baby, Brenda Joyce Smith. After the fire was extinguished, the bodies of five women and two infants were found. One of the women was Frankie Housley with Brenda Joyce Smith in her arms.[4] From Wiki
  8. I bit. Stan, along with many others gave me lots of happy moments. I especially liked the box they come in.
  9. Very nice. Glad I didn't opine that I thought it would get a 9.2. Great background story. I love Heroic covers, but they don't seem to be very popular.
  10. It's complicated. Restoring a book may give it better visual appeal, and a grading company may give it a higher grade, but it would be a Restored Grade. Not a Universal Grade. A great many collectors shy away from restored books., so you lose a good bit of the potential market for the book. In some cases, a very ragged key book may be restored to a mid grade, but it is very expensive and often times you are left with a book worth less than you have in it. If by reconditioning, you are referring to have the book pressed and a little cleaning done, that often increases the books grade and value, but many defects are not removable by pressing. Many collectors oppose pressing, at least publicly.
  11. Just look into the local regulations about selling food. When I lived in Mineola, a guy applied for a permit to open a .99 cent store. It was granted and a few weeks later one of the local gadflys pointed out that he was selling food without a permit. Town shuttered him until it was straightened out.
  12. Nice story. I think I'd have have bought a few more books even if I didn't need them. Seed money for the next generation of collectors.
  13. Great book. People are starting to appreciate restored keys. Mike did a hell of a job.
  14. I love it when people write stuff like this. Just makes my job easier. I went to my first Vegas estate sale the second weekend in September of 2016. Since then, I've spent $53,000 on them. Maybe $5,000 on comics or comic related items, but if you are a quick study and have an internet connection, you can find incredible bargains. This past Sunday I bought a lot of currency- 3 1934 $20 Reserve Notes, a 1928 $10 Gold Note, five 1934 $5 Silver Certificates and 15 rough 1957 $1 silver Certificates. Guy had them priced at $200, then lowered it to $100( below face) late in the afternoon. I picked it up and offered him $80 and he accepted. The Gold Note alone is an easy hundred dollar bill all day long on eBay. My best buys are usually artwork, and Occupied Japan kitsch. They simply aren't popular in Vegas but sell very well on the internet. A couple of weeks ago, I bought a set of North American Big Game Hunters medallions. Guy had a post it on it that said- Not Silver, but each coin had 31.0 grams of Silver stamped on them. Paid $100 for the set and sold the thirty medallions for $14.25 each, and have the beautiful Presentation Case left. It's on eBay for $35 empty. Full set goes for over $600 on eBay, but is a slow mover. Made a few bad purchase as well. Sometimes a little knowledge is dangerous.
  15. Bilbo and company are trapped by wargs, the Eagles miraculously appear to rescue them. Gandalf is trapped in Isengard. The Eagle rescues him. Frodo and Sam are about to be devoured by lava at Mt doom., the Eagles race north to rescue them. Snow and company are trapped by the dead, Dragons rescue them. Air Support. Don't go questing without it.
  16. Eleven months until I can start using my IRAs without penalties.
  17. I recently sold similar parts of the Bat Man slot for $200. These are a softer plastic as they roll up, the Bat Man and Robin pieces were more plexiglass- glassy. Those were on each machine, these are one or two a bank. I don't even remember the Spider-Man slots
  18. Okay, they aren't what I thought they were. They are not bus ads, but are the top of a pretty rare Spider-Man Slot bank, as seen in the video. Still no idea what they are worth, but I imagine the distribution is pretty limited.
  19. Speaking of time. Jon and his posse are ambushed, and send to the Wall for help. He makes it there, Ravens are sent to Dragonstone, Dany pauses to have a fur coat made and flies north to rescue them. As she had no idea the Night King was capable of killing a dragon, why didn't she simply send the three dragons north to destroy the army of the dead as soon as it became a distraction while she continued her war with Blondie?
  20. Time and distance don't seem to matter any more. It took the Hound several episodes to get from The Red Wedding to the Arie, yet now people travel to and from Kings Landing, and then to the Wall in a single episode. Yet the Dead are still marching on the wall for what has to be months now.
