I am not sure what the rules concerning artwork with partial nudity are on this site but I decided to play it safe and censored the latest commission I got in.  I love the 80’s Fighting Fantasy gamebooks (particularly the original 21 books) but being in the original art collecting hobby for 2-3 years makes me realize that I will probably never own the illustrations I want the most as they will most likely be out of my means.  Therefore, I recently decided to get homages of my favorite ones done starting with the mirror demon by Iain McCaig which appeared in the 1984 Deathtrap Dungeon.  This is a rendition done by Mike Hoffman:

Oh my I remember this image and those books I loved them so much . I believe I still have my “ Out of the Pit “ monster manual . Fantastic piece . Brings me back.

  2. TBH my dream was to finish the run . Last year I had my first child and I was missing 10 issues . Almost all of which were in first 10 issues of the run . I did some simple math and figured I was at least 60-70K USD away from securing the grades I needed to finish and prices just kept climbing . I couldn’t do it it anymore . The means of getting the books was not there so I decided to cash out .

The AF15 actually was acquired a month after the birth of my child . It was a huge trade where I off loaded a lot of CGC 9.8 copper and modern age books . Timing was everything I managed to get it done before the hammer hit on the big 9.6 auction . I’m leaving that one to my little guy in hopes that 30 years from now he will reap the benefits from it .

Unfortunately I have 24 outstanding orders from July of 2021 to March of 2022. All items have between an 8 week to 18 week max turnaround time to be shipped to me. I have written several times over the course of the last few months and even requested a refund for at least the orders from last year. I keep getting told to wait and not to worry and things are either expected soon or delayed. I know for a fact it is against the law to not provide customer with full refund if order is not fulfilled by time advertised upon purchase. While some of my older orders were filled at the beginning of this year, I feel I’ve been more than patient and it’s time to get my money back. It has been almost a year and I don’t want to lose all this money. It’s over $5000 worth of orders and I feel sick about it. Just wanted to vent and let you all know. Filing with NC Attorney General, BBB and FTC along with bank, but it’s been so long in some cases I’m effed if I don’t get anything to show for it. Nothing was purchased using PayPal, which I will have to consider for future preorders. End of rant.

Take my advice get your money back although I’m not sure how . PayPal will not cover you after a year if you paid visa you may have passed the timeframe on that coverage . This seller will not get you the books you purchased . Trust me

  4. Absolute scum bags . They don’t care what you can do post their name and info on google so Internet forums once it gets on worldwide web it’s not coming down. Make sure you have a legit concern or scam being done to you …. If you have waited a year you’re done as this seller offer pre sale cgc 9.8 because there is no way to get PayPal protection for the time it takes to get books graded or signed graded etc etc. that’s the scam .

Once the protection timeframe passes they disappear . They will do whatever they can to get you to wait 180 days by promises or lies  after that you’re toast . Anyone reading this under 180 day protection period from PayPal file item not received and watch how fast you’re refunded as they can’t afford to have their accounts frozen .

  5. Collectables are not assets and never were . I can’t take my comics to the bank as use them to secure loans . That’s where newcomers and those with no experience in this hobby need to be weary . We are not talking about golden age growls where there are under 50 copies in existence so park your money where you like but the fact these markets took off during Covid when most of the world was being locked down not working seemed very odd to me .

    my two cents anyways

That totally depends on which books you're tracking (and their grades) and your definition of "huge". Some of my blue chip bronze age are down around 10-20% from their highs while many of my golden/silver age are higher now than they were at any point in 2021 (Daredevil 1, ASM1, AF15, FF5, etc for some examples).

Try selling them for the premium …. All Marvel is down , golden age is obviously rarer

My 9.6 TMNT #1 is about to go up for auction on Clink:

    https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FPREVIEW.ASP%3Fcode%3D2022may%26pg%3D2%23Item_1560433&id=1560433&itemType=0

Before the stock market and crypto crash, I predicted that it would go for about $80,000. Now I don't know, but I'm betting it will go for less than that. I'd be curious to know what you guys think.

I think all collectables will take a beating now I’m glad I sold when I did ( not Tmnt but in general ). The world is a very unstable place and the economy in North America a steaming pile of dung. Money won’t stay parked in collectables if other tangible assets are plummeting . Hope you can get some good money but those crazy highs are long gone .

  8. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this unusual circumstance. Ive sent the last dozen or so books to CCS for cleaning and pressing . Side note I’m yet to receive any grade bump all grades on reholdered presses etc have come back same . Anyways this particular book Fantastic Four 6 was raw . Never graded cleaned or pressed . It was in tact and I visually graded this at 4-5.0. I just got notice it received a universal 3.0 with detached cover notice .

This comic was 100% in tact and not detached I’m very bummed out about this . I feel like the damage was done at CCS or CGC not sure what can be done now.

Anyone have anything they can share . I’ll post picture of raw . Graded book is on its way .
