    Not sure I follow you.

Aren't we talking about the most valuable books in the hobby? So yes, the top books don't change hands often because of cost and scarcity. That's what everyone has been saying.

Yes, AF15 is a very expensive book in all grades. $27k for a 1.0 is insane.  An incredible book for one of the greatest comic characters ever created.

It's not as rare as those other books and I don't personally think it will ever catch the big 2.  It may creep into the big 5 some day...and it may not.

The only reason they have as much value is  because 99% of them were recycled for the war effort. If the POP was larger the price would be lower . Regardless the point was if this had happened to AF15 there wouldn’t be a conversation about this. It’s still out selling all the others no matter what comes to market including single pages . As a whole the popularity and demand is huge.

Golden age has demand but you need back door to even get a sniff of one of those books. Not for me thanks

How many copies of AF15 traded hands last year?  The past 5 years?

How many copies of AC1, Bat1, Cap1, TEC27 traded hands last year?

Very little opportunity for any collector to get one of those GA Mega keys.  Comparably, lots of opportunity to score an AF15.  For many, those GA books are virtually unobtainable whereas the AF15 could be had for a fraction of the price.

It’s because of cost and those who have them only sell to small circle of collectors . That’s BS. You can score AF15 1.0 for 25K+ peanuts right?  For average person that’s ludicrous  . Some of these statements to me defy logic . That’s a new car paid in cash for a beater . Is that really opportunity . If AF15 existed during WW2 they went on paper confiscation trip destroying all the comics with it where would AF15 be?

I'll take the under. If a 1.0 or a 2.0 become a $100K book in, say, the next 10 years I think the world is burning well before that.

It would take severe hyperinflation for that to happen and in that case, the economy is done and nobody will care about comics.

I don't see how anyone can compare a common book like AF #15 to Tex #27 and Action #1. ???

Common with under 3000 copies? You can’t compare relics from 30/40s . Early SA from 1962 are not common . I seldom if ever see any for sale in shops anymore I live greater Toronto area and I may be in minority but in 2008 I could have bought 4.0 blue for 4000.00 Canadian . It’s going to happen

  4. Why are my statements ridiculous but you’re God here? The book pulled back for what a year and then exploded . I’m sorry but there are different driving forces today for comics than slow turtle paced growth of the past . It’s a new era for collecting you can catch up or keep your comments to yourself .

Accountability like what ? Seriously what would do ? Zero ! I have my own opinion

  5. Not for long . Let’s be serious 0.5 blue label is 20K I’d say AF 15 ship has sailed . The other books have no doubt rarity and value their historical importance is rock solid but for me Spiderman has transcended generations adding to his lore and will continue to do so . This book will see huge growth like never before as for getting one  any time you want sure you can it’s only the cost of a new car!!!

Im positive 99% of Americans can’t afford AF15 in any grade !

sidenote I’m a huge submariner fan if aunt Gertrude left me that money I’d pass on Marvel Comics 1 go for his true first app in Motion Pictures Funnies Weekly 1 and Captain America I could care less to own the book or character . 😎

  6. Captain America 1 , Marvel Comics 1 and many other golden age relics most people could care less about . It’s a small group of investors and collectors that never allow anyone else to get them . They contain important events I really don’t believe they hold a flame in the wind when comparing the staying power of Spiderman . They are  valuable and rare but to me Spiderman is the best comic created hero ever made .

    thanks

Simple principles of supply and demand are going to prevent AF #15 from ever approaching the prices of Action #1 or Detective #27.

We will see . High grade books are over million and Spiderman dwarfs the other two in popularity . No questions asked . He’s the most popular and most collected . All grade will be at astronomical levels in decades time . The only reason the other two have an edge is their age . If Spiderman came out in 30s there is no discussion . Peace

  8. What spec was needed for the biggest character in the world? It def helps the cause when billions of people watched a great animated movie this latest instalment live action and I’ll go out on limb and say the next animated flick will be outstanding .

Up up and away as they say $$$$$$$$$$$. What’s driving this book is the character and supporting heroes and villains are the best ever made !

  9. If I had AF15 I’d never trade for 181. No offence the Spiderman character is more popular , it’s better book investing wise as 181 is too abundant . I don’t want to come across abrasive I just wouldn’t someone else might

low grade 0.5 universal is now around 18K

1.0-1.8 anywhere from 30-38K depending on how nice they look

For investment purposes, get a Schomburg WWII cover, preferably from his later, busier cover period. The craziest one you can (MM46).

For me, I'm all about the Kirby, so I'd need a S&K Cap. If I could only have one Timely, it would be All-Winners #1; the only comic to have a Schomburg cover; and a Kirby Cap, Everett Subby, and Burgos Torch stories in one book.

Bill Everett  covers are pretty rare and few and far between in the entire run . Most timely hero books are getting very expensive

TMNT #1 is the Copper Age equivalent of Amazing Fantasy #15, except that TMNT #1 has fewer copies in existence than AF #15.

TMNT #1 is 37 years old now, AF #15 turned 37 years old in 1999.

CGC 8.5 AF #15 sold for $19,200 when it was 40 years old, CGC TMNT #1 sold for $30,000 when it was 37 years old.

CGC 8.5 TMNT #1 is currently one of the top 500 grades on the CGC Census for the book (8.5 or higher).

The top 500 grades for Amazing Fantasy #15 are CGC 6.0 or higher.

CGC 6.0 Amazing Fantasy #15 most recently sold for $84,000.

Do you need the money now?

If not, it's entirely possible that CGC 8.5 TMNT #1 today is similar to having a CGC 6.0 to CGC 8.5 Amazing Fantasy #15 twenty years ago.

Except the part where Spiderman is the biggest character in comics and always will have staying power the turtle book two years ago in 9.0 was 5K. It went up abnormally as did many others we don’t know what the fallout is going to be just yet . It’s a cool book but I don’t see turtles popularity today as I did when I was kid in 80s and early 90s. That success is long gone . Is rarity dictating price? Not sure . It’s a cool book I just have hard time seeing you compare them to Spiderman who’s is the absolute top of the mountain when it comes to comics and always will be .
