The chances of somebody having a copy of that book in the same grade that is cut and wrapped the same is effectively zero. Then adding identical writing? Yeah, okay. No, they had a lie in a worthless case. Maybe you should join CGC's marketing team. "Opening our cases is a gamble. You never know what's really in there! Um... wait, I mean you should blindly trust us because we're perfect."

https://www.comics.org/issue/34837/ No English single-issue reprints listed. It looks like it's in a Masterworks volume, but that'll cost you $100+ as well.

Iron Man #1 1968 staple question.
Lazyboy replied to MM65's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
CGC makes no guarantees prior to submission. And the guarantees they make when you submit aren't much more substantial. -
I know you already have this answer, but it doesn't hurt for it to be posted publicly. Direct print runs are mostly determined by orders from the distributor(s), which are based, in turn, on orders from the retailers they service. Newsstand print runs were determined based on previous sales for established titles and prospective sales for new titles. New titles would have been compared to similar titles (however they determined what was similar - likely looking at titles like Batman Adventures when deciding how much Batman Beyond to print) with a sales history. Just as sales are not the same for every title in the direct market, they are not the same for every title in the newsstand market, nor are the numbers proportional. Unfortunately, the actual numbers are very, very hard to come by (basically impossible, really).

You are aware of the Mile High II Collection are you not? Is that an exception applied to what was true for the majority of books? Exceptions by definition are exceptions. Exception is not the right word for that. Newsstand copies were not actually returned in any time period relevant to this thread/forum. Unsold copies were supposed to be destroyed, but we know that did not always happen. The only real question is the actual quantities.

Grade Category Apparent SS SA
Lazyboy replied to zephyr424's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
That's not how trimming is determined. Covers (and whole books, for that matter) can be cut and wrapped differently. Comic manufacturing was nowhere near being a precise, perfect thing. -
No. Why would I publicize a single grain of sand on a beach? This isn't a long box of the ASM 667 variant or something else that would absolutely destroy the value of the pictured books.

Funko pops to pitch 30M of inventory into a landfill!
Lazyboy replied to Robot Man's topic in Comics General
I'm conflicted. One one hand, that much waste being dumped is terrible, but on the other hand, it's nice when things end up where they truly belong. -
Captain America #241 reprint graded as an original.

I find that people who can't spell are generally dishonest... It's JC Penney. Even as a Canadian, I know that. The listing isn't perfect, but it at least attempts to properly identify the issue. -
What Are Your Little Pleasures of Comic Collecting...
Lazyboy replied to Krydel4's topic in Comics General
I always enjoy getting a new (back)issue that contains a Statement of Ownership that I didn't have. I have found them interesting since the first one I saw, many years ago. -

Just in case anybody doesn't get the reference: Here's the classic thread. -
You're right. In every single episode (or movie) of every iteration of Star Trek, an individual, especially a main character or someone close to them, has been abandoned because saving them involved risk. Or is it the opposite?

It was more explicit than most TNG, but https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuvLUgdt5Pw

Who cares? Because what's on the label does not matter and does not change the contents of the comic.

Are prices still climbing or have they eased up a bit???
Lazyboy replied to InfantTerrible's topic in Comics General
Of course not. That's not what he's saying. He's saying they're walking out of theatres and immediately emptying their bank accounts to buy CGC-graded books! -

Lazyboy replied to InfantTerrible's topic in Comics General
Fixed. And yet, they still don't care even equally, let alone more about actual comic books. That seems like a point in the other direction. -

If that were true, the hobby wouldn't be in any danger of decline or crash, it would just be dead. D. E. A. D. Like the hobby is just a blip in the world, professional grading is a blip in the hobby. -
There's no "may" or "possible" about it, this is a manufacturing defect. But there's still a larger tear than I've ever seen with this defect before. More commonly, this defect has the paper just folded rather than torn and folded, in which case CGC basically ignores it.
