Alex ross virgins going for well over $100 with more rare versions selling for much less.. Do people realise what they are bidding on?
-
I personally prefer the second printing cover .. Not a fan of close up head shot covers that look like we're pulled out of someone's sketch folder when realised cover hadnt been drawn

I saw a lot of Ross virgin at C2E2
one comic shop had a short box of them
If print run is 250k then there will be more of these ross virgins out in the wild than the retailer virgins with only 1k distributions.

By the way...sales for ASM #798, 5 days after release, are hovering at about cover price. That's not a good sign.
Well everyone who wanted one probably bought 5 ;).... Little doubt there was enough printed for everyone interested and their families.
Will be a matter of which of the variants will be sought after one the dust settles
My picks are still
795 first print (first Osborne carnage)
796 comic xposure variant ( first red goblin - on cover) both versions probably fine to appreciate.
798 - first appearance.. limited distribution 1000/3000 variants or 1:100 / 1:200 variants.. Other ratio variants are probably still fairly large print. Standard cover will be in dollar bins shortly.
I also reckon anyone holding a high value 797 that everyone thought was going to be first appearance should be selling now while they can get these prices.
But I'm no expert..

I get that it's a demand thing, but additional printings are inherently going to have lower print runs. And if they don't, then it means that Marvel made a huge miscalculation in demand forecasting or is intentionally manipulating the market to spark interest. In any case, short of original art, a 1st print is "the original" to me. (Granted, there could be 200k+ copies of that original floating around.) But I guess I'm just jealous that someone missed the first opportunity, hopped on the bandwagon by buying a 2nd/3rd print and then ends up benefiting more (financially) by not being 1st.
Though nothing stopping you from getting the reprint either?

Retailer exclusives tend to not matter so much to collectors.
It's already been recognised as first cover appearance .. And it's an awesome cover to boot..
And don't forget distribution only 1000 for virgin covers and 3000 for trade
I reckon Alex ross virgin cover for 798 will probably be the book to have in terms of value.

In the Cgc age, first cover appearance of Red Goblin (in costume) and lower print run like the above #797 will be bigger $$ compared to high print run ASM #798, 799, 800.
This book is not first cover appearance.. 796 comic xposure variant is.
Of all the issues least likely to hold value I think 797 will be it as its a filler
795 first Osborne with carnage symbiote
796 comic xposure.. First red goblin appearance on cover
798 first full red goblin appearance
800 death of major character? Though deaths don' really do much for value.

I got mine from frankies and got a postage notification late last week.

I don't see the problem with cgc grading it.. As long as they put a giant green label on it with incomplete grade and note whatever reprint / photocopy version it is and that the original cover has been removed and replaced by non official alternative.
-
What on earth does "museum edition" even mean?
-
.. 797 costs are fast losing values on ebay sales.. Lots of unsold regular covers at markup to cover price.
The mayhew is a rare book, but on an insignificant issue.. Will be interesting to see how it tracks over time.

Can't see what you love about the villain, since he hasnt even debuted yet.
I'm sure Marvel is listening to what you love at this moment in time......
*crickets chirping*
I like the concept of an established villain with a long history with Spidey like Osborne getting bonded with a psychotic symbiote that encourages him to go more crazy than ever, helping him to enjoy using his genius intellect and enhanced abilities in new, horrible ways. In turn it would be interesting to see if/where he would draw the line in how far over the edge he lets the carnage symbiote take him and if he could overcome it.
Now, It' quite possible red goblin isn't Osborne, but I really like the idea if it is.
It would seem like a missed opportunity to not explore this over the years. Of all the mash up ideas going around at the moment I really really like this one as it feels has potential to be the evolution of a major character(s) moreso than a mix and match of ideas.
The whole concept of origins is good as well.. Osborne having to use carnage symbioye to allow him to access his locked out abilities.
All good imo.

Marvel already said 798 is 1st full appearance.
Long term holds ? Only if the character lasts, which I'm betting it doesn't.
I reckon it will.. I personally love this idea for a villain.. I imagine others will too and will want to see more. There is a lot to explore with this idea.

Was it ever determined that ASM 797 was the first red goblin?
It's not.. 796 comic xposure is first red goblin cover. Looking like 798 is first appearance

He seems to have a thing for red eyes

Can't see asm 300 ever losing its steam. Lot of people want ( including me)

Seems del otto covers are often reprints of his older art these days... Bit of a turn off if you ask me..

Neither interest me and are just a regurgitation of said Spiderman and Wolverine (but with some newer/millenial edge ).
But we don't need to re-hash that. It's been re-hashed, so to each his own.
Just feel like the House of Ideas is running out of ideas by jamming the Hulk and Wolverine into one character. (Carnage-Goblin too).
carnage + goblin actually gets me excited if it becomes an evolution of either character into one. carnage has been a great villain, and he was a ' what if ' evolution of the venom idea by putting a nut job in a venom symniote. if they now put the symbiot over a highly intelligent but quite insane nutjob who already has own powers and back story with spidey. its one of those, cant miss scenarios for me.
i laughed at the idea of Weapon H... i still think "where can it really go?" ... but...... after reading initial reviews, i might give it a go to see if it's a decent read for a few issues.

speaking of spawn,
spawn #283 comics pro variant went a bit nuts on ebay from the day they came out. the standard covers also seem to be asking for a bit on ebay. i hadnt thought of it as a significant issue though.

I agree. I chose trade dress too but not just to save money I felt it also really gives it that hulk 181 vibe even more.
But virgin definitely beautiful comic to have too. I got a dell Otto virgin so I had to cut back on this. Modern variants are so expensive these days even for brand new stuff. Why does it it say 4.99 on cover if it's 24.95 minimum?
I personally much prefer the trade dress cover han virgin. Less chance of monetary value I guess, but it just looks cool...
Hmm.. Maybe I'll pick one off those up.. Weapon h sounds low such a dumb mash up idea, but it does somehow look cool.

It's getting good reviews. Will pick up at LCS for a read.
So what issue is the real 1st app of Red Goblin?
in Modern Age Comic Books
