  1. Hello, Can you please grade my ASM #36V2? I seem to have added fingerprints while gently examining the book. Washed, clean, dry hands. Yet I seem to have done this. Granted I would think this black cover is highly prone to finger prints.... And I think I recall other books having them and then disappearing on their own? So I have 2 questions. What grade would you give this book as-is with visible fingerprints and what grade if the finger prints dissolve away? Can these type of finger prints be cleaned off the cover? Would the heat and process of pressing do that? Thank you!
  2. Thank you for your help grading this FF #112. Flat with bold colors. But significant stain, rusted staples migrating to paper and a hanging chad of a chip or miss-cut on the back bottom corner. Can something be done to prevent further rust migration to the paper? And to prevent the staple rust from getting worse?
  3. Thank you for this guidance on shipping. I have a question about best way to send several, maybe 3-5, Gem boxes. Would you suggest bubble wrap around each of them or is that over kill? Does it matter if the Gem boxes are standing up vertical like in this image or laying flat? Seems that if laying flat, even if bubble warped, pressure from the top will transfer to the books. But it looks like that's how CGC recommends doing it with their mailing kits..? If standing vertical is best, and you're sending several gem boxes, the box is kinda square, maybe labeling the shipping box with that side up will help keep the box in that direction ..? Is shipping Gem boxes vertical best protection?
  4. Hello, I have several books that look to be in great shape except for spine tics. Do you think these can be pressed out? Totally, mostly or some? Thank you!
  5. Thank you for your help grading this book with a "corner chip". Is that the proper description for this defect? Since the book has spine bends & other defects, maybe the chip is not a significant factor in the grade (or is it?). Also I am wondering, if the book were higher grade 9.6/9.4/9.2, what would be the deduction for the "chip"? Thank you!
  6. Thank you for sharing your expertise everyone. I learned a lot.
  7. The stain I saw was at the top edge of the back cover. But your date stamp clarification is most helpful. Where it came from and what affect it has on the grade - Thank you. I have seen this on several books but never knew what it was.
  8. Hello and thank you for your help grading this Joker #1. It looks like a nice clean book w/ white pages but has a stain on the back cover edge. Can you please share your thoughts on the grade with the stain and w/o the stain? I would like to learn how a stain of this severity affects the grade. Thank you.
  9. I was just looking at how the Overstreet grading guide 6th edition notes paper quality. 8.5 says cream supple, then 8.0 goes to "tan to cream supple". So would the 8.0 grade allow some tanning?
  10. Hello, I could use some help grading my X-men #99 please. There seems to be darkening areas mostly around the bottom edges. Is this tanning or a dust shadow or is that the same thing? Or is it foxing? It would help me to know how much this affects the grade. With and without this defect. Thank you for your help.
  11. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! This was a great help.
  12. Sorry I was not clear The first 2 pictures, each showing 5 books, was just to show that this flaw was common to other copies of the same issue. Sometimes when you look at a cut, tear or chip, you may wonder if it's production related or just a one-off that happened due to human neglect after production. I am only asking for help grading the single book pictured in the last 4 pictures. Keeping in mind that the chipping on that one book is also found on other copies of the same issue.
  13. I have several copies of this book with varying degrees of what looks like production defects including chipping. Is this Marvel chipping? I had thought Marvel chipping was from dull blades and inferior paper from an earlier era? Or was that happening mid-1970's as well? The first 2 photos are the group of books showing similar chip defects in the same area. The last 4 images are of the same book. This book probably has the most severe defects, including the fc bottom edge. I do not know how to grade this book because I do not know how much weight the defects have, some probably being production related? What are your thoughts on this book's grade, please?
  14. Is there a way to gauge the approximate value of Silver & Bronze purple label books as a percentage of the blue label value? And what if books are raw? I have a couple books in my collection that look like they may have minor color touch. They are raw.
  15. I'm wondering how much of a boost CGC gives to a book? I think it varies by book, grade, title, vintage, etc. So wouldn't it be difficult to use GPA values, then try to price a raw copy? Unless maybe you know a little about demand and rarity of some books or categories. For instance early Marvels in high grade might double (or more?) if CGC'd...is that right? So wouldn't you have to cut that GPA value in half to get the raw value..? Other books, maybe not so much..?
  16. Thank you for taking the time to put all that info into your reply. I will study the options. Already the pricecharting site is looking very good...
  17. Hello I am new to using web based services to determine comic book values. Can anyone recommend a comic book app that puts together information for raw comic book values something like the way GPA does for CGC books? I have sorted thru ebay sold listings as well as some auction sites. It would be great to find a reliable source that puts all that together in one place with easy reference, well organized and succinct. Or is it recommended to use the GPA info as a guide and then discount for raw values?
  18. Hello - Is there a place on the Forums for people who are looking to trade comics? Thank you.
