  1. Hello, I have an Xmen #94 with a piece of tape adhering to two interior story pages. The tape seems to be old and sticky and not allowing any give. Does anyone know if there a way to remove the tape without damaging the comic? And what is the grade of the comic in this condition? Thank you in advance for your advice and recommendations!
  2. Thank you all very much for your input. I certainly learned more about this topic.
  3. Hello, PGM ASM #238 I'm wondering how much a stain like this affects the grade. What would be the grade on this book with and without the stain? Thank you.
  4. Hello, I have a comic that has a liquid stain on the bottom corner. It does not affect the staples and the comic is otherwise in nice shape. Can this stain be safely removed? I am also wondering how would this stain affects the grade of the comic? Does anyone have experience with this situation? Thank you Kindly.
  5. Hi - Overstreet grade description for 2.0 says a book may have a detached cover. Does CGC use this same grading guidance for detached covers? If not, what is the best grade GCG will assign to a book with a detached cover? And as a separate question, what if the detached cover is not otherwise perfect? Will other defects like a partial spine split and moderate edge chipping affect the grade here? Thank you for your help.
  6. Hi - Does any one know if 1st printings exist without this error? Or do all 1st printings have this error? I have multiple copies which I think are all 1st printings, because they either have a UPC code or white Spidey face on the cover box. I bought them over the years from different places and all of mine have this error. Which I thought was a coincidence. Because you would think such a random mix would have some of each. It's my understanding the error was corrected on 2nd printings. I don't know because I do not seem to have a second print. It looks like the error is being promoted to get a higher price for sales. But if all 1st printings have this error, then it's not so unusual and maybe the error version is the norm? Thank you for any insight.
  7. Thank you for all the input into my inquiry. Here's what I know. I brought the book home with other magazines during work travel last year or possibly year prior. Other vintage magazines like Look, Time, Rolling Stone, Tiger Beat. Work travel takes me to other cities. I sometimes see antique malls or resale shops. If I have time I will l look for old magazines and buy a few if I can find them. I did so multiple times. The book came from one of those places but I don't remember which one. I didn't give it much thought. I was more interested in reading copies of the other titles than what I thought was a reprint copy of Hulk, not my favorite. The book got my attention because it looked to be in nice shape and I thought it would be cool to have. But it has no place in my comic book collection because I do not collect modern reprints. So it went into a random comic box with other misfits till I started going thru it now. And noticed the interior pages look aged. And began my inquiry.
  8. Thank you for taking the time to reply and your great advice. I will do that. I am no expert, but the cover seems to be heavier stock and more rigid than other Marvel comics from the same era. I am guessing it's not original. I would like to be wrong about that. I am seeing reproduction covers selling on line. I don't know what you can do with them except to put them on a book with a poor or no cover. And I would think you would want that cover on the same book. Maybe to display better..? The interior pages do seem to be like the old Marvel pages. So maybe this is what happened...
  9. Sure, here are close-ups of the staples. I understand looking at the staples to determine the probability they were made/added to the book at the same time, at production. Looking forward to any opinion here. But isn't there a way a collector can determine if interior pages are original? So we can enter the book into our collection properly, and know the approximate value. For instance, if a grading company receives a coverless copy of a valuable book, they would need to know if it's original or a copy.
  10. Hello - I am not sure if this is the correct forum for this inquiry... But I am trying to identify this book. I am curious to it's value. I bought this with some other magazines thinking it is a reprint. Because the cover is very glossy and seems to be thicker than a traditional comic book cover. I tried to find the same reprint on a Google search. I saw various reprints but they all had a marking or UPC code on the cover to identify it as a reprint. The inside pages look and feel like the old newsprint paper. If this isn't a mass produced reprint edition, could someone have put a reproduction cover on an original cover-less Hulk #1? Is there a way to determine if interior pages are original or newly printed? Thank you in advance for your help.
  11. Hello, I have a Flash #135 with a detached cover. The front and back cover are completely split apart. How would this book grade? Thank you.
  12. I have a few similar vintage books in similar condition with the subscription crease. Can I ask for opinions what this this FF #52 would grade without the subscription crease? I always wondered how much of a ding the crease has on the grade, for this range of condition.
  13. Thank you for two very helpful suggestions. I will use them as I go thru my collection.
  14. I have a collection of Dell Giants I am trying to grade accurately. And assign a proper value if I want to list them for sale. Most have moderate amount of pencil markings on interior puzzle pages, partly completing the puzzles. Otherwise, they probably are in the range of 4.5 to 8.5 I think I can come close to an accurate grade, not accounting for the inside page markings. But how much should I ding each grade, and the dollar value, to account for these markings? Especially the higher grades. For instance would an otherwise 7.0 book with these markings = 6.0 grade and value or 5.0 or..? How about an otherwise 8.0 book , etc? Thank you for your assist.
  15. Thank you. How would you grade it with and without the x on the cover? Should I post this question in a different area?
  16. I have a series of books spanning several years with an "x" written in the upper left hand corner near or over the date and issue number. About 20 books. Would you think this is a distributor mark? Or maybe someone else marked the covers for some reason. Otherwise the books might be in the range of 6.0 - 8.0 How does this "x" affect the grade if the book? Thank you.
  17. Thanks for that, I guess all pictures are not ideal. I read with interest the recent posts under "Advice/thoughts on a large collection". I have been collecting since mid-70's. The time to sell is getting closer. I have mid to better grade, key issues and runs, of Marvel/DC superhero titles mostly from the 60's and 70's. Mostly bought one at a time over many years. I was looking into possibly trying to sell some of the better books via online marketplaces, such as the one here. But my grading skills, although ever evolving, are still in question. So I'd like to post images that a buyer can enlarge and scroll to see good detail. I wonder if a picture taken from a phone, or scanned from a copy machine, has these characteristics when posted here?
  18. Hello - I am a looking for advice on the best way to post books for sale on the CGC marketplace. There can be smaller groupings of mid to hi dollar books, and larger runs of better grade but lower dollar books. I have the books listed with estimated grade. To start - Would someone be able to suggest the best way to post the best quality pictures? Is it direct scan from copy machine to jpeg? I would like a potential buyer to easily view, then click on the image and increase size to see all needed detail. And I would like to make it easy for me. For sorting/organizing. What are your thoughts on including a short video for better books? Maybe about 10 seconds - trying to replicate an in-person viewpoint, holding the book at different angles under good lighting, attempting to get a more complete and accurate picture?
  19. Thank you for your feedback. Agree binder holes kill the book.
  20. I have several comic books with 3 holes neatly punched out along the spine. They must have originally been stored in a 3 ring binder. I was wondering how this affects the grade? I know if the book was originally 2.0 or 1.0, the holes may not have much affect on the grade..? I am interested in how the holes affect the grade if the book was otherwise a higher grade, such as 8.0, 7.0, 6.0, 5.0?
  21. Hello I am looking for advice on the best way to submit fragile comic books to CGC. I have several books that have covers detached or barely hanging on one staple. Others brittle with partial spine split and small chips missing. Pieces of cover folded back which may break off if unfolded. Handling can unintentionally damage the books further. Removing from a loose mylar bag and board can possibly damage the book. However they can be handled without causing further damage if someone understands their condition and knows how to handle such a book. Their value to me is mostly sentimental but it would be nice to have their condition preserved and certified. And I would like to protect them from future damage. Would anyone have opinions or recommendations how to submit these books to CGC? Mail vs walk-thru (I have reviewed other posts detailing packaging recommendations for mail submissions). And how to reduce the odds of them being accidentally damaged during the submission process and while at CGC?
