  1. Can't speak for either of them,

    I'm sure you'll manage. :gossip:

Seeing that I don't know TFL nor have ever had any dealings with him, I sincerely doubt so - but don't let the facts get in the way of your trolling :gossip:

Them is a complex word. It contains more than one entity.

Therefore, I have used your word them correctly, as it concerns one of them, but not necessarily TFL.

Indeed you have no discernable trouble in manufacturing enormous amounts of sympathetic posts in regards to the other unnamed entity.

Now trolling also is another word that seems to be lacking in your overall ability of grasping certain concepts.

To accuse me of trolling you would need to show where I have followed you into this thread from a very recent thread.

This is not the case, as a simple search of my posts will reveal.

I merely arrived in a Discussion thread (of all things), and joined you in the ongoing discussion.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Wow.

Mild mannered mica layeth down the smack.

I wonder what BellaDonna would say about that.... hm

    ...or Clive, or 8milereacharound, or........................

We only need Domo to make this reunion complete...

  2. "Them", indeed, refers to more than one entity - which is exactly how I used the word seeing that I was making an educated guess as to why two members of the probation list were still posting on these boards. You, on the other hand, felt that "them" should refer to Comicsupply only because otherwise your little out-of-context jab wouldn't make any sense whatsoever.

Oh, give it UP, Schmidty! You said "either of them", which means EITHER, not both. Mica's usage was perfectly correct. lol

  4.

Yeah, just finished reading up on it. What a scumbag deadbeat. The litany of horror stories associated with dealing on this board seems to grow every day. Caveat emptor (and venditor) my friends.

An awful big deal to back out of. Some people don't make that much a year.

In Arkansas, they call those people "the rich folk"....

    (duck)

  5. "Would you take X dollars?" is a question, not a commitment.

If someone asked me that, and I said yes, I would then expect them to confirm that offer before holding them to the purchase. After all, they may still need to figure out their finances, or some other thing.

  6. Sorry, the title of the thread was Batman #428, I'm getting a #427 from you :gossip:

Oh...you had quoted the 427 picture, so naturally I assumed...

    ;)

I think anyway, I can't remember anymore :insane:

It'll be here soon don't worry. I had a package through from Jeff last night so they're starting to trickle through at last.

Yes, it's a #427 you'll be getting, with a rare CGC error variant label.

And at the prices #428 is getting these days, I'm holding on to mine, and am in "buy and hold" mode. Bleagh. Thank God I sold a set last year.

  7. prices are down yes, but what if the same S.O.B. is buying all the issues? Then he knows he aint that stupid. Yet again he knows GPA dont mean poop. Right?

What I mean is if he is buying all the issues then waits a year or four,,,, bam he makes a million. it will happen how many of you still own a 9.8?

There is one S.O.B who already owns most of them ;)

You know I want one, you know I need one, and you know that if there was a graemlin down on his knees clasping his hands together and downright begging, I'd post it.

So what you gonna do about that?

You have one coming! It SHOULD have been there by now!

    Grrrr.

And you know what? The one you're getting isn't even in this picture!

    :)

  8. Totally on a different topic....I really wish people would stop listing their modern drek for unreasonable prices.

    Why?

Because it absolutely breaks my heart to see someone ask a totally ridiculous price, then keep lowering their price over and over again, getting more desperate about it. Usually, it's a crickets chirping to their repeated calls of "anyone"...?

Like, you know, listing about $3 worth of drek for $25 or so....

It really....truly...makes me want to buy this stuff just to help the poor person out.

It doesn't actually make me, but it makes me WANT to....which, of course, is what it's designed to do...but still....

It makes me feel bad. :(

Trust me, I wish all comics were worth cover price, but the harsh reality is, they're not.

You sound like you really have a heart. There are limits to the logic/rationality of the Enlightenment. Cue Rolling Stones' "Emotional Rescue."

    :baiting:

    lol

  10. Well.....CGC used to offer slab credit to witnesses who turned in labels...but they stopped that as of May. Witnesses may still turn in labels as a matter of habit, or just because they want to keep the census clean.

But it most definitely could have been a downgrade, too.

The census is such an important part of the overal service & value that CGC offers. It seems incredibly short-sighted not to do as much as possible towards keeping the census clean! :o There really should be a tempting bounty paid on the labels from books that are freed from slabs. I don't get why they don't get it! (shrug)

    Well...you have a point....and I agree with you, in theory....but...

    http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Board=4&Number=3394190&Searchpage=1&Main=168663&Words=handwringing&topic=0&Search=true#Post3394190

  11. It's truly best to get all the handwringing about the census out of your system....if you are subject to such hand wringing...now.

The census cannot ever be a completely accurate reflection of "what exists in what slabs."

People wrung their hands over the censuses on coins, and I imagine they wrung their hands over cards, but the reality is, the census only lists the most POSSIBLE copies, not the most EXTANT copies.

With the crack and re-sub game going full swing...and God forbid, cross subbing, should CGC get a legitimate competitor...there's no way the census will ever reflect the actual number of copies in slabs of just about anything.

CGC is NOT going to go through the trouble of "delisting" things unless they get certs sent back in, and everyone knows that not all certs have been sent in.

So...the best thing for the entire community to do with regard to the census is understand that it is an approximation only. A very GOOD approximation...but an approximation nevertheless.

One thing you CAN be sure of, however: there will never be MORE copies in slabs than the census states (unless Gemma really drops the ball, and I doubt that will happen.) (And before anyone gets all whiny about it, no, that does not include copies slabbed since the last update, and that should be understood without having to say it, but there you have it.)

  12. Just wondering about this cuz of all the record keeping and stuff that goes on with CGC, and the census and all.....if we (or somebody) cracks open a slab to get to the book......wouldn't it be a good idea to notify them? Sort of like a courtesy or something. I mean it could alter alot of things if the guy with the highest graded copy of Marvel Mystery #58 cracks it open, which in my thinking would immediately put the second highest graded copy right to the top. Any thoughts?

Yes...and oh, btw...you're supposed to check the obits in your local paper and cross out the dead people in your phone book daily to keep it up to date... :makepoint:

How'd you know I do that...?

  13. You're supposed to mail in the cert so they can remove it from the census.

CGC will only remove the book from the census if they receive the cert.

If you make really good photocopies of the certs, will they delist everything so that my Batman #428 becomes the only one on the census in 9.8....?

You could probably just ask CGC to do that for you, pretty sure no one but you cares about that set. :baiting:

  14. It's funny...someone was selling a Bats #428 for a BIN of $259. Noting the severe downward trend in these books, I offered the guy $200...noting that TWICE in the last three months, the book has sold for less than that on Heritage.

The guy got snooty, suggested I "check out gpanalysis.com for real offers"...then accepted an offer of $220.

    Which I would have paid.

    Douches galore.

  15. I'd lean more towards sociopath - here's a good discussion of it:

"The main characteristic of a sociopath is a disregard for the rights of others. Sociopaths are also unable to conform to what society defines as a normal personality. Antisocial tendencies are a big part of the sociopath's personality. This pattern usually comes into evidence around the age of 15. If it is not treated, it can develop into adulthood.

Visible symptoms include physical aggression and the inability to hold down a steady job. The sociopath also finds it hard to sustain relationships and shows a lack of regret in his or her actions. A major personality behavior trait is the violation of the rights of others. This can appear as a disregard for the physical or sexual wellbeing of another.

Although these symptoms are all present, they may not always be evident. Research has shown that the sociopath is usually a person with an abundance of charm and wit. He or she may appear friendly and considerate, but these attributes are usually superficial. They are used as a way of blinding the other person to the personal agenda behind the sociopath's behaviour."

    Sound familiar...?

  16. That's nice. :) That means there's at LEAST 8 on the next update. :cloud9:

I was thinking the same thing when I saw your post :)

When do they update the census?

When they have a chance to update it, they do. Usually, it's every 1-2 months, shorter during off-season, longer during the summer.
