  1. REVEALED! Secret to counting pages, checking for clipped MVS, or any other defect inside ANY Comic Book without cracking slab! DISCLAIMER: This only works in Florida…
  2. No way! Sorry to leave you hangin’ but my main concern seems to have blown over! I love the Registry and everything about CGC (hello Judges )… in fact, who are you again ??
  3. Hello, been putting a little effort into my custom set if anyone cares to check it out. Thanks! https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/wcm/ComicCustomSetView.aspx?s=32372
  4. That answers my question, thank you!
  5. Hello, I always use CCS whenever submitting books, but have never done a PreScreen. If I were to use CCS and also PreScreen at what point would the books be PreScreened? Specifically, would I be charged for pressing and then the books are PreScreened afterwards? Or, are they PreScreened (and rejected) prior to pressing/charged for pressing? Would rather not pay for pressing a book if it would not hit the PreScreen grade, which is why I’m asking. Thank you!
  6. FWIW, I think you guys got what you could. Best takeaway for me was that they do have a “big name” investigative firm on the case. I was happy to hear they plan to take legal action as (in my mind) that is essential as a deterrent and to restore confidence. I’ve been following this thread religiously and I have come to the conclusion that there are probably many more than 350 books affected but after this interview I think that is all we’re ever going to get CGC to admit to. I hope they stay true to their word on the legal action. At the very least it was reassuring to see Matt willing to sit in the hot seat for a few minutes and at least appear that CGC has nothing to hide.
  7. Been seeing a lot of people citing the Heritage auction results as an indicator that there is no reason to be concerned about the market. Honest question here… hasn’t Heritage been known to shill bid their own auctions in the past? I’ve read articles going back 20 years now that the guy running the place has been pulling scams on people since he was 13 years old (was in fact fined) and is currently named in ongoing litigation. Meanwhile CGC has Heritage plastered all over their website as testimony that their product gets second to none auction results! I mean, c’mon… does anyone really think the Heritage results on these high end books in the middle of this scandal are going to show anything other than a strong showing for CGC/Heritage/the market?? Before anyone accuses me of committing a crime by stating this, read the articles yourselves… it’s all there in black and white. To think that no one is currently involved in making sure prices stay high on these books is just flat out denial. Truth probably is that these books never were and still aren’t worth the amounts being recorded… and when you get right down to it some loser opening slabs with a heat gun is small potatoes compared to what has probably really been going on with the comic market.
  8. Good luck! I’m personally not sending in any reholders until this all blows over. I’d hate to have my book there and then suddenly be subject to a new policy I don’t agree with (such as sending everything back for regrading all books).
  9. Agree with this 100%. The case is supposed to be “tamper evident” but evidently either, it is NOT tamper evident… which would be a really BIG problem OR they, meaning CGC, just weren’t checking for the evidence of the tampering.
  10. I hope that CGC isn’t naming names because they are taking this as seriously as they should be. Working with law investigators and law enforcement to make sure they can bring the most serious charges possible. If some sleuth drops a name that’s one thing, but maybe if CGC drops names too soon it compromises the case. At least this is what I am hoping.
  11. Agree! In my mind the only thing that really restores confidence in the CGC brand is the prosecution of those that did this. That’s when we’ll see the strength of the CGC “guaranty.” CGC needs to make an example out of these people using the full power of their lawyers and the legal process to do so. I was not around for the trimming scandal but learned of it reading this thread… I also read all the links about it that people posted here. I saw a quote from the then head of CGC telling the guy to “leave the hobby or be prosecuted” or something like that. I honestly think that was pretty lame then, and it would definitely be a wildly wrong attitude now. These people need to be named in legal documents and have their livelihood stripped from them. At this point I don’t even think the slab needs a redesign… CGC just needs better practices for examining reholders to find tampering. Otherwise it is fine for anyone not a criminal, and after these scammers are made an example of anyone of that mind will think twice before trying to get one over on CGC again.
  12. The book that now appears with the custom label is probably either lower grade or qualified. Was put in the Universal 8.5 holder. The real 8.5 Universal is who knows where now. Edit - never mind, I see you already answered your own question… probably needed to update the scan in the census.
  13. I use Duckduckgo to search and here are the top four stories when searching “cgc reholder scandal.” Different perspectives for sure, and IMO some not so common outlets starting to pick up the story... I had never heard of the first two. https://www.pfadvice.com/2024/01/01/the-cgc-reholder-scam-hundreds-of-fraudulent-comics-sold-what-to-do-if-youre-affected/ https://shoppersvila.com/review/cgc-comics-reholder-scam-exposed/ https://comicbook.com/comics/news/cgc-comics-issues-statement-on-holder-tampering-controversy/ https://bleedingfool.com/blogs/fraud-by-any-other-name-the-cgc-comic-grading-scandal/
  14. What about laser engraving the same QR code that is on the label, onto the inner well somewhere?
  15. Is it also true that all the “victims” would need to find each other and sue together? I think that is how a class action works, OR there is enough in it to get a big law firm interested, set up a registry where people can join in, etc. Again, I’m not an expert on class action lawsuits but I don’t think either of these are likely scenarios.
  16. The possibility was mentioned about 50 pages ago. This person’s wife’s FB page has some posts (coincidentally) from people whose names are derivatives of some of the Seller accounts used in the scam (Bree, Zane Glor). The associations seem too unlikely to dismiss. CGC Mike asked for the info if that lends any credence. When considering what he was able to pull off, it makes enough sense to me to think this is what happened. Of course the jury is still out.
  17. How about they keep doing reholders as they have been but refrain from any kind of favortism for “big” submitters? I think the idea that the CGC machine doesn’t know whose books they are working on is out the window at this point. A few months ago CGC posted a video where the Toddfather mentioned whose book he was signing… I questioned this and they said that while the signer knew whose books they were signing that the graders still didn’t know. I thought that the signers knowing was also garbage! If the entire CGC process is not 100% anonymous, certain cool people might get better sigs/sketches (or maybe their reholders aren’t looked at as close). It’s supposed to be an “impartial” service throughout and it is clear it is not. If what I’ve come to believe keeping up with this thread is true, then this guy used his name recognition to get one over on CGC, while CGC’s apathetic attitude towards QC and impartiality, facilitated his success.
  18. At this point I’m not reholdering another book. The trust is broken as far as I’m concerned. I don’t sell books… I have always just wanted my books in new holders so they would look better in my registry sets. Now that everyone is screaming to regrade all reholders (something that from my POV I absolutely disagree with) I’m not about to be the guy that suffers because this dude took advantage of the system to profit. I have one 9.9 in particular that would look sweet in a new holder but now I can never enjoy it in a new holder because all of a sudden CGC “might” want to start looking at books closer, and it would be devastating for that book to be sent back to me as a 9.8, grading being as subjective as it is. I really hope this dude and all of his accomplices get serious jail time.
  19. I wonder if there is a way to infuse the case with something that, if exposed to extreme heat (such as from a heat gun) or certain chemicals, that the plastic would permanently discolor?
