  1. I purchased a cgc graded comic in a recent auction at one of the big auction houses. I thought the scan showed a small crack so I called the day of the auction to inquire about it. The fellow was very nice. He pulled the book and inspected it, and assure me there was no crack. He said it must’ve been a glare in the scan. Well, there is a small crack. It’s not a huge deal, but it’s there, and it was not disclosed. I sent a polite message just pointing out the discrepancy. Here’s the response (the 2nd part of the response is the reason for this post): “The comic inside is what has value, the case can be changed at any point at any time by CGC. It is there to protect the comic within and the label above. Because cases crack all the time, as long as the crack isn’t large enough to change the label or comic within, CGC only charges a $15.00 fee (Hence our providing $15.00 worth of store credit) to reholder the book. (ReHolder $15 (for books under $50,000 FMV. Otherwise $25) So, unless you’ve invented a way via osmosis to transfer the comic and/or label through that very, very, tiny, hairline crack, I think you’ll be good. Trust me, we crack and resubmit comics on a daily basis. (See Attached.) And if we thought the crack in the case was egregious we would certainly work something out with the buyer. Though in this instance, this is not the circumstance.” Does anyone else think this is a bizarre response to a purchase of several thousand dollars?
  2. I think people see the insane price of a grade like 0.5 and figure $5,000 for a nice restored is a bargain. I may be mistaken, but the recent 0.5 on ComicLink is the same copy from several months back, and was offered for a time on eBay. If so, I believe he sold it for a loss in the recent auction, so perhaps there was some buyer’s remorse. But I digress. I agree with October. If I had $2500 or more to spend, it would not be on a book that looks like someone put it in a blender, no matter how bad I wanted that particular book. There are still so many other great, mid to high grade books I could get for that amount.
  3. Just out of curiosity, what made you consider CC over the other auction sites?
  4. Thank you. I collect precode crime and horror, so that one grabbed my attention immediately. There are lots more, especially western and romance. Are there specific titles or artists I should seek out, or is it more just “eye of the beholder”?
  5. Fortunately or unfortunately I have already invested in an 8.5 with white pages
  6. I am new to the world of pulps, but recently picked up these for $2 apiece.
  7. Congratulations! That’s a nice looking book. I almost went for it to pair with my raw copy, but I had too many irons in the fire.
  8. I really like the All-Famous Police 11... is it a higher grade?😃
  9. It might not seem sustainable, but I think a lot of people are just "discovering" Golden Age comics, and I think the majority of Cole's work could be considered "classic".
  10. Ah, perhaps there are some light non-color breaking bends or creases that give the appearance of a slight spine roll? Regardless, it’s still pretty sharp!
  11. Nice looking book! It’s tough to judge from just one photo, but there appears to be some spine damage..,stress marks, a few minor color breaks, Spine roll, and maybe some chipping on the top edge?
  12. Flaws are obvious, mostly front cover with some light soiling on the back. Just looking for some feedback, thanks!
  13. Thanks, everyone. I think I feel pretty comfortable calling it a 3.5-4.0 with the noted flaws.
  14. Cool, I think I contacted you some time ago looking for one of these!
